Sure, China left us less time than we would have wanted, but we did have sufficient time were there the political will and competent management.
Before Trump took office his staff was fully briefed by the outgoing Obama staff on the possibility of a pandemic, the personal and economic threat and the steps needed to mitigate such a threat.
The current stockpile was created during the Clinton administration.
There is no excuse for Trump claiming that this was unpredictable.
The man is just once again a failure at yet another business.
Remember he has no problem with the US going bankrupt as long as he does not have to declare personal bankruptcy!

also time and nature of testing
There is also the issue of when testing started and what protocols are being used. For example testing down here in the Valley only began about a week ago and it is still only testing those people who show definite signs of covid-19. In Hidalgo County there have only been 381 people tested, 28 confirmed tests and over 100 awaiting result. So of the approximately 280 test returned 28 were positive for covid-19. Based on that it would be reasonable to expect about 10 additional cases will be found among those who have been tested.
The first confirmed case in this county was on March 21st.

Re: the relief check
But they even provided a link to make it easy to update all my information and if I do that I won't have to go to the bank. You may not realize how difficult that would be, I'm old and don't like driving at night and I'm in deep south Texas while my bank is in Brunswick, GA. That's over a thousand miles each way.

Re: the relief check
What puzzles me is that these emails work. The scammers send them out BECAUSE it works; people send them money or personal data or bank account numbers or bit coins.
Why? Why are so many folk so unbelievably gullible?
It is as baffling as the reaction to covid-19.
On another forum there is a nutjob going on about how covid-19 was engineered and set loose to bring down the whole world's economy so those in the Deep State can step in afterwards.
How can folk be so utterly stupid?

Re: the relief check
A relief story.
Long long ago when I was writing software programs for a bunch of marine biologists one wanted a program to analyze some survey results for mean, median and mode. So I wrote it but he was disappointed with the mode results. What he wanted was a list of what mode of fishing; from a boat, a pier, surf fishing ...

Almost. More likely His story during the election will be, "The some states were responsible for that and they did very poor job which endangered not just their citizens but even those living in the states that did a good job."
And it will work!

We will get exactly what we want.
But the US Senate with the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court presiding decided that if the President deems some act or position to be in the Nations Best Interest then it cannot be illegal.
If the President believes that his continued Presidency is in the Best Interest of the Nation and that using the stockpile is a means of insuring his continued Presidency then it is not just legal, it is the correct usage.

November!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The election is in only 8 months and there is a very high probability of a fall wave of Covid-19.
Now is the time the US needs to start redesigning the voting process for the election. We have to plan for either an extended voting period or mail in or online and it will take a herculean effort to get something in place even if only the legal framework in that time period.
