Re: John Oliver on OAN misinformation idiocy
Funny how if "everybody knew it was coming" what "everybody" actually SAID was the same stuff Trump said at the beginning, oh no big deal, not to worry, etc. People put down Trump for stopping flights from China, people like Biden for instance. Everybody can say exactly what Trump said and be praised for it. If Trump says it he's a dastardly evil incompetent racist.

Re: More illegality
Seems like something they would have wanted to know all along, but were trying to be bipartisan and fair and got a cadre of traitors for their trouble.

Re: More illegality
Trump has probably allowed more dogs in the manger than any other President because he is too trusting and genuinely bipartisan. Presidents need people around them who share their perspective and in this time of the most evil Leftist fifth column we've ever had it's suicidal for a Republican to trust any of them.

Re: John Oliver on OAN misinformation idiocy
It's probably a timeline matter, like the hysteria started later. Which figures. When did Pelosi make a big production out of going to Chinatown in San Francisco to prove she's not a racist or whatever her point was? Risky thing to do if the Chinese fly back and forth from China but I guess she survived.

Yeah I know that's your story and you're stickin to it but I doubt your story. And I often skip posts that accuse me of things these days like not knowing what reality is. Stuff it. And when I hear the TRUE story of how it all went down I'm sure I'll let you know. Yeah even you.

Re: His fault
None of it's Trump's fault but a lot of it is the fault of State governors who spent money for other things than the supplies the hospitals wanted. Among other things blamed on Trump that are other people's faults. What, you want him to stitch masks in the White House? What, he's supposed to watch the stockpiles? What? He's not supposed to listen to the people who advise him but decide what to do about a pandemic all by himself? He's been listening to his advisers. Too bad if they've been getting things wrong. The Left twists the narrative to put Trump at fault and you buy it.

No but travel to China would occur more often with them.

The idea that the complaints are ABOUT anything except finding a way to make Trump into the bad guy is laughable.

Winter cold or the virus?
California seems to have remarkably few cases for its size and people have been wondering why. The social distancing is a reason, but some have suggested there might be a herd immunity, that many had the virus and didn't know it. The only way that could be discovered is by testing for antibodies, which isn't being done in great enough numbers to find out.
But my daughter and I were remembering that everyone in her family had had a strange cold-like or flu-ish sickness starting around November, affecting them all to different degrees but with similar symptoms including headache, fever and a dry cough. Of course they thought it was just a winter cold and it may have been but in retrospect they are wondering. Members of another family they know had something similar. Two children my grandson sat with in class were sick a week before he got it.
It would be nice to know if the virus had already been through a large part of the population so they could come out of quarantine.

Economic collapse?
I'm getting worried about the economy. Is it possible to get back to anything like normal if this lockdown continues much longer? I know systems for returning to work area by area are being considered, which would be a good start. But it would help a lot if we could know how many have had the virus and recovered from it, which would be a better place to start it seems to me.
If we don't have a way to resume something like normal life fairly soon won't there be some scary economic consequences we may not be able to imagine from where we sit at the moment?. I'm thinking if I were twenty or thirty years younger I'd be starting a garden on whatever square of open ground I could find. In my case I'd have to put pots out on my balcony but anything is better than nothing.
There's no way I know of to grow toilet paper though.

Re: Winter cold or the virus?
It was at the very end of November on into December, but you could be right, that's what they thought at the time too. But it was a very unusual cold, and although there was a fever they didn't hink of it as the flu for some reason. Just a very odd set of symptoms.

There are possible connections to China at least, but they haven't been verified.

Chicago area hospital drive-thru tests more people with antibodies than active virus
Roseland Hospital phlebotomist: 30% of those tested have coronavirus antibody | Chicago City Wire
A phlebotomist working at Roseland Community Hospital said Thursday that 30% to 50% of patients tested for the coronavirus have antibodies while only around 10% to 20% of those tested have the active virus.
Sumaya Owaynat, a phlebotomy technician, said she tests between 400 and 600 patients on an average day in the parking lot at Roseland Community Hospital. Drive-thru testing is from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. each day. However, the hospital has a limited number of tests they can give per day.
Owaynat said the number of patients coming through the testing center who appear to have already had coronavirus and gotten over it is far greater than those who currently have the disease.
So far there is nothing comparable for California but it seems very possible that they too could have a large number of people with antibodies. There are interesting stories about how Californai had an especially severe flu season starting in the Fall which could reflect the virus instead, or at least some of it could be the virus. The reports do distinguish flu from the virus but they don't seem to have any solid ground for deciding which is which. This is one story about it and there are others at Patch.com.

'Double-Barreled' Flu Season Slams California In Deadliest Week
The flu's death toll continues to climb in California, and many will get sick twice because of outbreaks of the Influenza A and B strains.

Re: Chicago area hospital drive-thru tests more people with antibodies than active virus
California has a very large Asian population and in the Fall there weren't any restrictions on travel, so there's the possibility that it came from China that early and got confused with the flu. The symptoms my family described didn't sound like the usual flu or cold but something unfamiliar. That may just be hindsight from our current situation with the Corona virus of course. The only way we'll be able to find out is with a reliable test for antibodies. Seems a shame if a huge part of the California population has already had it and could be out working but nobody knows it.
