Re: John Oliver on OAN misinformation idiocy
None of which changes my point. It is not possible for people to be hysterically overreacting and simultaneously playing it down as nothing to worry about.
Faith was just parroting the party line with her usual disregard for the truth.

It's probably a timeline matter, like the hysteria started later
No, Trump was still playing it down even then. That’s what his complaints were about.

When did Pelosi make a big production out of going to Chinatown in San Francisco to prove she's not a racist or whatever her point was? Risky thing to do if the Chinese fly back and forth from China but I guess she survived.
What? Seriously the disease was not rife among Chinese-Americans.
And she did it because people were avoiding Chinatown. Without good cause. Chinatown was no worse than anywhere else.

No but travel to China would occur more often with them.
But not that often. Pelosi went there in late February. Trump was still saying that he wasn’t worried by the virus in early March. And, I’ll note that it’s New York where the problem started getting really bad, not San Francisco.

The idea that the complaints are ABOUT anything except finding a way to make Trump into the bad guy is laughable
Trump does a very good job of making himself into the bad guy.
But Trump’s hoax speech was 28th February. After Pelosi’s Chinatown visit. Trump was saying that figures of 35,000 to 40,000 deaths in the US were overblown. There were 1800 deaths recorded yesterday, and the total is already at 13,000.

Re: John Oliver on OAN misinformation idiocy
And I bet that a lot of them are not ethnic Chinese. With China being such a major manufacturing centre there is quite a bit of business travel.

Re: John Oliver on OAN misinformation idiocy
It turns out that the virus in New York mainly came in from Europe, not China.

Re: Winter cold or the virus?
November is really early, and if the virus had been freely spreading it ought to have been noticed. So it’s almost certainly a winter cold or flu.

Re: Winter cold or the virus?
That’s nearly two months before the first recorded cases in the US. Unless one of them had been to Wuhan or closely associated with someone who had, I can’t see it as likely at all.

Re: Winter cold or the virus?
I think that November is too early for anywhere but Wuhan to be a likely source. Italy didn’t have any recorded cases until late January.

Re: too much quarantine?

The question raised by the expert on the Levin show was whether it's a good thing for so many people to be avoiding getting the virus
The point of that is to slow the spread so we don’t get a lot of bad cases at once. You said that Levin complained that other medical treatments were being neglected. How will more coronavirus cases help that ? Intensive care places are limited. Ventilators are limited. If we run out people will die because of it,
In fact that British government were following the strategy of letting the virus spread. They realised that it wasn’t going to work. Maybe that initial strategy is the reason why Britain had 980 deaths yesterday - neither Italy or Spain have reported such a high figure.

It's not so much letting it spread as it is trying to keep it limited to people who aren't as vulernable to it so there wouldn't be all the deaths you are describing
Healthy people die of coronavirus, too. If we run out of respirators more of them will die.

Sean Hannity - a good friend to the Coronavirus
Ars Technica reports on a study that finds that Fox viewers who preferred Sean Hannity over Tucker Carlson were more likely to catch the coronavirus. Hannity played down the threat from the virus up until mid-March while Carlson warned of it from January.
The consequence is that Carlson’s viewers took action to avoid infection a little earlier than other Fox viewers, while Hannity’s viewers were noticeably later than the average Fox viewer.
Hannity viewers were more likely to catch - and die of - COVID-19.
Whether Fox News planned to conduct this experiment or not, it does elegantly show that dis- or misinformation during a public health emergency costs lives.
