Re: The Latest Data
Didn't want this question getting lost in the flow.
Can someone please explain how to use the EvC datadropsite to show a graph or image?
I don't recall there being such a thing. Need to host your graphics off-site.

My son is a cop. Problem with being a cop is that you need to be on a force. A lot of demand for those positions, very few to be had. Basically, he lost his last position for medical reasons (trying to up his physical readiness, he took out his Achilles tendon).
In a recent communication (ie, a few months ago), he tried to connect me with a local gun range. To ready myself.

EvC datadropsite
(Can someone please explain how to use the EvC datadropsite to show a graph or image?)
The forum isn't really set up for members to be able to store graphics on site.
I believe that the EvC datadropsite may well only be accessible for uploads by director level admins. I think Percy/Admin and I are the only director level admins, and I don't recall ever having done anything with it. Essentially, it's Percy's personal storage area.
Members need to store there graphics elsewhere.
Adminnemooseus

Or something like that.

Re: EvC datadropsite
I can imaging hosting all this site's graphics would involve lots and lots of, not just bytes, but gulps. Gigagulps, hard swallows, open extra wide and inhale the whole pizza the way we used to do when we were young kinda gigagulps. Percy would have to move this place to the multi-tera-peta-zettagulp farms of NASA.
NASA probably wouldn't allow that cuz they got all those moon martian space alien images to scrub the aliens out of and render in the other half of the Earth to make it look like a globe. That takes a lot of memory power.

I have wanted to do this for a long time. Adminnemooseus's comments about current behavior are accurate. Basically, the DataDropsite is for my personal use. I upload stuff to it using an ssh/ftp app.
I have something else I'm trying to clean up right now, but when I'm done I'll tackle this one. People should post any feature/usability requests they want. I can't commit to how fancy I can get. What I'd really like is drag/drop of images or PDFs or HTML files or whatever into message boxes. They'd get uploaded to the server when the message is posted.
Each member would have his own space, and I'd add a new section to the Member Control Panel page that lists the content, which could be managed through uploads, name changes and deletions.
There *is* a security issue that could have an impact. I have to make sure that malicious files can't be uploaded and executed.

Disease Modelling
For the mathematically minded, here's a Washington Post article that explains with examples why the wide error bars in disease modeling: Disease modelers are wary of reopening the U.S. Here’s how they reach their verdict.

The stupidity of these people is unfathomable.
Now they want to kill even more.
HHS secretary says Trump’s ‘Warp Speed’ vaccine ‘may not be safe and effective but we’ll have it’
quote:
Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar on Sunday admitted that the Trump administration’s so-called Warp Speed vaccine effort could produce hundreds of millions of doses that are neither safe nor effective.[...]
That’s a goal, Azar explained. What happened is these drug companies and vaccine makers said it’s all going to take this amount of time because they’re using their traditional approaches.
The president said that’s not acceptable, he continued. We’re going to scale up commercial manufacturing and produce hundreds of millions of doses at risk. They may not pan out, they may not prove to be safe and effective but we’ll have it so we can begin administration right away.

His base doesn't need it. Most of them are already autistic.

Re: The Latest Data
I would like to be able to upload MP3 files (audio recordings) to add to some of my posts. Don't they take up less space and/or bandwidth than videos? I never really understood this technology, by the way. I once was going to send a video to a friend and found that the file was too large, so I simply uploaded it to my youtube and made it unlisted and was able to send it that way.
Does YouTube then store the major part of the file rather than EvC? I never understand this stuff!

Droplets From Talking May Be a Factor
Coronavirus Infections: Talking Can Generate Droplets That Linger Up to 14 Minutes - The New York Times, reports a New York Times article about a new study.
We still don't know how much virus it takes to cause an infection. Is one large droplet of virus sufficient? Several? Thousands of tiny droplets? Any of these? A combination? We don't know.
Most likely much is a result of serendipity. Where do the droplets land and how many and under what conditions? A few tiny droplets in a fertile place for the virus and you're infected, while large droplets in an insensitive area and you're fine. Droplets sitting for a while at the back of the throat and you're infected, while droplets exposed to a spray of other particles from eating and drinking get washed into the digestive system leaving you fine.
What we do know: wear a mask and remove most doubt.

Re: The Latest Data
Here's today's graph of deaths per day from The Washington Post Coronavirus Page. There remains a clear downward trend:
Here's the bar graph of new cases from ArcGIS Dashboards Classic as of yesterday. There's remains a clear downward trend in this graph, too:
It has been about two weeks since gradual reopening of the country began when I said that we could expect cases to begin rising again in two to three weeks, and deaths in three to five. The only thing that could prevent this from happening is if the images of people enjoying restaurants and beaches and so forth without masks are the exception rather than the rule, and that most people are continuing to wear masks and practice social distancing. The next couple weeks will tell.
What we want is for R0 to drop below 1. R0 is the number of people each infected person infects. When that number drops below 1 then the contagion begins to decline. Widespread mask-wearing and social distancing can accomplish this.

The Latest Data from Hidalgo County
We are now eighteen days from State Reopening Day and yesterday saw the highest single day number of new cases yet; about double the pre-opening daily new case number. The State as a whole is seeing new high case numbers as well.
What could possibly go wrong?
