Nebraska shocked me, and opened my favorite restaurant around the beginning of June. It is a super cheap all you can eat pizza buffet. The problem is that you need to have an employee give you your pizza, raw vegetables, etc. You can no longer grab your food yourself.
Nebraska's 17,000 plus confirmed infections have 234 of those infected dead. Still under 1.5 percent of confirmed infections are met with death. A few weeks ago, I recall the fatality rate per confirmed infection to be around 1.2 to 1.3 percent. It appears to be 1.4 percent now. The Covid deaths were 186 a few weeks ago. Now 234. So 50 more in a state with just under 2 million residents. Nebraska appears to have a 0.9, percent of population, confirmed infection rate. The country is not quite at a 0.7 confirmed infection rate. I don't really know how the death curve works, but there could be a spike in deaths, but it is unseen so far. June has been less deadly than May, which was less deadly than April. The newly confirmed infections were higher in May than in April, if Oil recall correctly. The big problem is knowing what the true infection rate was and is. Then just how long does it take for various types of victims to get sick and die.

June 18th another 100 and June 19th another 109. Total for March, April & May was 575. For 19 days in June so far it has been 981.
Typical local response has been that it is fear mongering and that most of the folk that die already have one foot in the grave. Edited by jar, : fix counts

Infections are up, but deaths are down.
It seems that the increased testing has allowing the infected to be aware THEN TO SELF QUARANTINE Then there is the massive amount of racial minorities with a high percentage of deaths. Congregate living situations in a fair chunk percentage of the population is a challenge. Poverty and lower income are s deadly. This is a challenge that the cruel society, which makes up the United States, is not prepared to meet. And DON'T FORGET THE ELDERLY. This Coronavirus is showing what a massive societal failure this country is. Left, right, middle, etc. Edited by LamarkNewAge, : No reason given. Edited by LamarkNewAge, : No reason given.

... most states .
It actually has the lowest unemployment rate in the nation at 5.2 percent. Thus was based on the May unemployed survey. Released first week of June. I just found out. I was searching unemployment rates for Nebraskska. The death rate was my first search. I noticed Utsh had a low death rate for the coronavirus. Like 0.8 percent or lower. Nebrasja is about 1.4 percent. Percent of confirmed infections. I am no big fan of either states, but the data are relevant, regardless. We will be studying the data for decades, I predict.

I think that you love data for datas sake.

At his Tulsa rally yesterday Trump said he'd told his administration he wants to decrease testing, which of course would impact contact tracing since we wouldn't know who's infected. The reasoning seems to be that testing only makes the number of cases increase, which makes him look bad.
Trump also made fun of masks. Here's a puzzler for everyone. Guess why Japan's unemployment rate is 2.6% while the U.S.'s is 16% (see U.S. unemployment rate: What is the real rate? How many unemployed? Why was the jobs report shocking? FAQ | Fortune). Here's a hint, that's Japan on the left, the U.S. on the right:

Here's today's bar graph of deaths per day from The Washington Post Coronavirus Page. The trend is still mildly downward. We're at over 118,000 deaths now:
From the same source, here's today's bar graph of cases. The trend is now clearly upward
On Meet the Press today the medical guest said that given how poorly we're handling the pandemic in the U.S that there won't be a second wave. The first wave won't end. What we'll have is a raging forest fire. No news from this weeks grocery shopping trip. I was wearing my AirPods Pro for the first time and was just blown away, never noticed anything about masks. --Percy

We set a major milestone this week; a total of 639 new cases. That is more new cases in one week than were reported during March, April & May total.
The daily average of new cases in the first week of June was 22. The daily average of new cases during the second week of June was 47. The daily average of new cases in the third week of June was 91. There are nine days left in the month. Still seeing Twitter responses like "I'm not buying it!" and "very strange, 20 days ago, we barely had 500 cases, now we have triple the cases. As well as that on June the 1st there were 4000 plus cases pending. Seems that the cases everyday are from those 4000 who had not received their results for over a month." and "Are these recent cases? As in the last 73hrs? Maybe 14 days? Or are these test results from a month ago meaning patients incubation period is over and are now healthy? Just curious." What, me worry?

Percy writes: Reporting from my grocery store: They have opened back up for longer hours and less social distancing, though it is still officially posted.(People seem to be ignoring it more now) We are still required to wear masks, which is no problem for me. Better safe than stiff. I am cautiously optimistic about life in general, though I intuitively think that the COVID will re-emerge with a vengeance this Fall. Normal will never be normal again. Y'know, I don't think I've ever even seen a mask for sale. We see stories all the time on the news about how everybody on earth who has access to a sewing machine is making masks. And I do see a lot of masks on the street. But I don't know how I would get one if I wanted one.

Well we started this week with a bang. 193 new cases in just one day. A new high. We will definitely get a gold star for these next nine days if that keeps up. But we have been kinda doubling the daily average each week this month; 22 per day week 1, 45 week 2, 91 week 3 ... but I sure would love to see some indication that things were leveling off.
Gov says school will definitely open on time this year.

As the EU opens borders the NY Times is reporting that travel from the US may be banned.

Y'know, I don't think I've ever even seen a mask for sale. ... But I don't know how I would get one if I wanted one. Same here. I only go out for groceries or necessities or to take my car for a walk in order to keep its battery charged. I have never been a shopper, so I need to know where something is before I go to buy it. My favorite line from King of the Hill was by Hank the first time he went to the MegaloMart (their version of WalMart): "You know, there's something to be said for a store where you can buy underwear and spark plugs under the same roof." I've been using a no-sewing kludge based on a YouTube video in which you use two t-shirt sleeves as the mask and the bottom seam as "string". Because the two sleeve form a kind of pocket (especially if you fold up and safety-pin the bottom, you can add some kind of filter material (she uses a coffee filter, I seem to recall). I just found it again:
It works well enough, definitely better than the kludges made from a folded handkerchief and rubber bands. However, mine got twisted around and rather unruly today when I went to a medical appointment. So since a prescription was waiting for me at the near-by Walgreen's, I went in and, just in case, asked the clerk about masks. They have them. Disposables and reusables. I bought a 3-pak of reusable cotton masks, washable 40 times, single-ply, made in China, cost about 6 USD. Seems kind of thin, but if I want more I could stick a handkerchief inside it. And I'm sure that you could also find something on Amazon.com.
