I also have limited Internet access - free wifi, and few places that let you sit inside. And I'm sure that you could also find something on Amazon.com. I'm sure I could find masks locally but they discourage "window shopping". There are a lot of cracks to fall through and unfortunately there are a lot of people who are worse off than I am."I'm Fallen and I can't get up!"

They seem to be everywhere here. All the dollar type stores started carrying disposible ones a month or more ago. Now some have cloth ones too. The closest 2 drug stores have them.
Plus there are lots online.

248. One day. Not a weekend combined total, it was 193 on Monday and 133 over Saturday & Sunday.
248! One Day! The good news. For the very first time there has not yet been a tweet saying this is all a hoax or old news.

Way too soon to be an effect of the rally... but it does mean more people in Tulsa were available to spread it at the rally.

Like most everything else in this fuster cluck, the free market couldn't handle the initial panic and hoarding and then took quite a while to catch up.
In the stores, bottled water seemed to make a quick come-back, though it took pasta and other dry goods a bit longer. Then toilet paper a little bit at a time -- I usually get mine as that big pack from CostCo which lasts me for more than half a year; I still had about 4 months worth when this started and now they're back in CostCo. Yeast (active dry) was a long time coming and it's still sketchy -- I've seen it twice now in the past month (and have gotten one string of 3 packets each both times). And canned soup, one of the first things to go, is coming back as well. So the same with masks. Very little demand until suddenly everybody needed one and couldn't find any. You had to either sew your own or have a good friend who sewed or codge together some kind of kludge like I had to. BTW, anybody else notice one of the big new form of video on Facebook early on? Videos of pets (dogs or cats) being trained to run steeplechases down the hallways. And what were the steeplechases made out of? Toilet paper! That's what they did with their hoarded loot?

And now Trump is shutting down testing because if you test then you find new cases, so if you stop testing then you stop finding new cases. A perfect plan for lowering the numbers.
That just made me realize that Trump is the Ravenous Bugblatter Beast of Traal. My emphasis added:
quote: So, like the Ravenous Bugblatter Beast of Traal, Trump thinks that he can't see something then it doesn't exist. BTW, Towel Day is on 25 May, so we just missed (guess we were slightly preoccupied with other stuff). The quote above is from that page. Also, a slogan for Towel Day consists of the words printed in big friendly letters on the cover of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Don't Panic.

Staples (where I work) has masks now - 50 for $35 Canadian. So the same with masks. Very little demand until suddenly everybody needed one and couldn't find any."I'm Fallen and I can't get up!"

June 23 248 June 24 373 1928 so far just this month and six days to go. Our seven day average in now at 165+ daily so six more days would add yet another 990 cases. Hospitalizations up. ICU admittance up. Deaths up. What, me worry?

As of today we are above the available beds and ICU units in Hidalgo County and with no signs of demand slowing.

Then you'd better stop counting before the totals get much bigger and you run out of everything.

Is it me, or are Trump’s utterances in the past few weeks becoming not so much jaw-droppingly stupid, as actually indicative of a genuine mental illness ?
Could there be any greater conceit, than for someone to believe that the universe has to be simple enough for them to be able to understand it ?

Have you ever attended a Revival?
He is talking to his core in the manner to which they will respond; it is raw emotion and a total disconnect from reality; an acknowledgement that THEY really are after you.

I know - and damn is it depressing just how many people believe him.
It does just seem to me though, that he is increasingly sounding as if he’s disconnecting from reality. I know that whatever he says appeals to his base, but it’s getting even more bizarre than usual. Is anyone else wondering if the GOP is looking at the poll numbers, at COVID and at BLM and wondering if they’ve got time to push Pence on board, under cover of a Trump mental breakdown brought on by stress and the evil press ? Could there be any greater conceit, than for someone to believe that the universe has to be simple enough for them to be able to understand it ?

The man's mind has never been right as far as I can tell. Starting with that racist stream-of-sick-consciousness tirade where he first announced his candidacy, those who were really paying attention all knew this guy was off his nut.
Yes, he does appear to be getting worse. I think the pressure is getting to him. He's not used to being outside his own narrative and I think he is finally feeling the failures he has always been blinded to by his own ego.Factio Republicana delenda est.

The issue is that his base is also totally disconnected from reality. It is SOURCE over content. This is the guy that understood that he could shoot someone in broad daylight on 5th Avenue and not lose a single vote.
And he is right. But wait, there's more. He has already pushed through 200 Federal Judgeships, Judgeships for life. He has total control of the Senate that is the body that approves appointments. He has purged the Attorney's General and the heads of all of the Executive Branch Agencies. And the Senate with the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court presiding determined that if he believes and act is in the "Best Interest of the Nation" that act cannot rise to the level of an impeachable offense.
