Re: About to cross 40,000 deaths April 19. USA
60,000 was predicated on the nation practicing social distancing.
I fear the South and some of the Midwest are heading for deep shit.

New CDC tool
Excess Deaths Associated with COVID-19
quote:
Estimates of excess deaths can provide information about the burden of mortality potentially related to COVID-19, beyond the number of deaths that are directly attributed to COVID-19. Excess deaths are typically defined as the difference between observed numbers of deaths and expected numbers. This visualization provides weekly data on excess deaths by jurisdiction of occurrence. Counts of deaths in more recent weeks are compared with historical trends to determine whether the number of deaths is significantly higher than expected.

Protesters spreading coronavirus like wildfire. Duh.
Cops didn’t enforce law on anti-lockdown protesters, COVID-19 spread
Map of cell phone locations at and after the April 15th Operation Gridlock in Lansing Michigan.
quote:
The people at the Committee to Protect Medicare released data which shows the protesters dispersing to smaller communities across Michigan in the following days. The map above shows that cellphones that were in Lansing on April 15 scattered across the state. (Link)
Rob Davidson, executive director of The Committee to Protect Medicare said on Lawrence O’Donnell on April 30th that they saw a rise of 50-200% in COVID19 cases at the places those cell phones ended up.
Davidson predicts that we will see more of this following the April 30th protests. If we keep doing the same thing over and over we’re never going to get out of this.

Re: This is different from the first SARS. It hits the elderly, mostly.
So why won't we pass we legislation that protects the elderly
Yeah, just pass legislation.
It's not all that easy.
I'm 71, somewhat obese, type 2 diabetes, hypertension, A-fib (seemingly fixed by a cardiac ablation).
My daughter-in-law lives with me and teaches elementary school art. If she's called back to work, she'll be seeing near 200 kids per day. In a normal year we have an endless round of colds and sometimes flu during the winter.
My 3-year-old granddaughter and 2-year-old grandson live with me and are both up for preschool, where they'll see about 20 other kids each.
My son is fine, he's the stay-at-home dad.
How do you intend to protect me? Wanna tell me how to convince a 2-year old and a 3-year old to keep a mask on? How do we prevent airborne transmission? Or contact transmission?

Republicans would never buy it. That would cost far more money than cannon fodder like us are worth to them.

The stupidity of these people is unfathomable.
Now they want to kill even more.
HHS secretary says Trump’s ‘Warp Speed’ vaccine ‘may not be safe and effective but we’ll have it’
quote:
Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar on Sunday admitted that the Trump administration’s so-called Warp Speed vaccine effort could produce hundreds of millions of doses that are neither safe nor effective.[...]
That’s a goal, Azar explained. What happened is these drug companies and vaccine makers said it’s all going to take this amount of time because they’re using their traditional approaches.
The president said that’s not acceptable, he continued. We’re going to scale up commercial manufacturing and produce hundreds of millions of doses at risk. They may not pan out, they may not prove to be safe and effective but we’ll have it so we can begin administration right away.

We used to be a player
Coalition of 116 countries back Australia's push for independent coronavirus inquiry
quote:
More than 110 countries have backed Australia's push for an independent coronavirus inquiry which has caused a damaging rift with China.
The African Group's 54 member states will co-sponsor the motion, joining 62 other countries including Russia, Indonesia, India, Japan, Britain and Canada.
The European Union's 27 members are all on board, along with Brazil, South Korea, Mexico, Turkey and New Zealand.
Not the US, of course. They have no interest in wretched banana republics.

Re: CDC death rate per age group numbers.
I can see you don't care too much for the elderly
I'm the elderly and I care for us a lot. Whether or not you are elderly, you can set an example by sacrificing yourself for the sake of the Dow.
I see you are slowly working yourself into the corner of only sacrificing whites under 60.

Tulsa
Way too soon to be an effect of the rally... but it does mean more people in Tulsa were available to spread it at the rally.

Re: Less than 25,000 U.S. deaths in June, with 3 days to go.
The death rate will go up around mid-July. Deaths lag cases and cases are exploding to record-setting levels.
We almost flattened the curve… then we had to die for Wall Street.
