Compiling The Best Of RAZD
One project that I thought might be worthwhile is to peruse some of the EvC Archives and link everyone up with some of RAZD's best posts and replies over the years. I've just not had time to do it yet and perhaps you might remember some of them better than I would. Does that sound useful or honorable for your brother?

Welcome to the Fray
jeez, I didn't mean to make this thread come to a halt.

Well then I'll add a little more...

When I first posted here it was RAZD who welcomed me. But you knew that without having to check, because RAZD welcomed everybody. He was always so friendly to new posters, making them feel at ease, pointing them to threads that might interest them and, most of all, providing help with the dBCodes.

So many forums are a hostile environment to newbs. Some people will seize any opportunity to bully new members. Even without that sort of thing, a place like EvC could be especially intimidating given the expertise and erudition of many of the members but it's never felt that way. That is in large part due to RAZD's example. He was an extraordinarily generous guy and I will miss that.

RAZD and myself were going through cancer treatments at the same time. He was such an encouragement. He was a good good man and he will be greatly missed here, and no doubt even more so by his family and friends.

He has told you, O man, what is good ; And what does the LORD require of you But to do justice, to love kindness, And to walk humbly with your God.

xong, it broke my heart to find out about your brother! He was the single most extraordinary intellect I have encountered on the web and definitely in the top handful encountered in my personal life. Even after a life spent as a biologist he broadened my understanding of many different related fields far beyond what I could have achieved on my own.

Years ago he invited me to share some of my photography with him privately and I did. Over the years he pointed out details and offered insights that I had missed.

His courage facing his cancer was an inspiration to me facing my own.

I grieve his loss and celebrate the triumph of his life. My thoughts are with you!

I miss him!

Xomgsmith, RAZ was a treasure without equal. The pain of your loss is shared by many of us.

I first encountered him during the W administration on a Netscape message board and was deeply impressed with both his knowledge and his decency. I always looked for his posts, knowing he'd bring some pertinent info (and worthwhile perspective) to any conversation. His commitment to applying science and reason as a lens through which to view reality was passionate and unwavering.

Great respect is due.

His Silly Design Institute post can be found here:

I was just reading RAZD's epic work on pulling all the dating evidence together in one place and marvelling at his workrate whilst comparing it to dad's ignorant one sentence dismissals and thinking that those two summarise the whole problem between science and religion. Knowledge takes time to seep into hardened heads and often just runs off the surface.

Then I came across his last post in that series which made me rather sad.

Age Correlations and An Old Earth (ver 2 no 1)
Theme Song

Time is on my side, yes it is
Time is on my side, yes it is
Now you always say
That you want to be free
But you'll come running back (said you would baby)
You'll come running back (I said so many times before)
You'll come running back to me

Oh, time is on my side, yes it is
Time is on my side, yes it is

You're searching for good times
But just wait and see
You'll come running back (I won't have to worry no more)
You'll come running back (spend the rest of my life with you, baby)
You'll come running back to me

Go ahead, go ahead and light up the town
And baby, do everything your heart desires
Remember, I'll always be around
And I know, I know
Like I told you so many times before
You're gonna come back, baby
'Cause I know
You're gonna come back knocking
Yeah, knocking right on my door
Yes, yes!

Well, time is on my side, yes it is
Time is on my side, yes it is

'Cause I got the real love
The kind that you need
You'll come running back (said you would, baby)
You'll come running back (I don't always said you would)
You'll come running back (I won't have to worry no more)
Yes time, time, time is on my side, yes it is
Time, time, time is on my side, yes it is
Oh, time, time, time is on my side, yes it is
I said, time, time, time is on my side, yes it is
Oh, time, time, time is on my side
Yeah, time, time, time is on my side

- Rolling Stones
(yeah, I know ... they're as old as the dinosaurs ...)

Enjoy.

Enjoy the peace RAZD, if there is a god, you're with her.

Damn shame. I learnt a lot about a lot through reading his posts.

My deepest condolences for your loss, Xongsmith.

The above ontological example models the zero premise to BB theory. It does so by applying the relative uniformity assumption that the alleged zero event eventually ontologically progressed from the compressed alleged sub-microscopic chaos to bloom/expand into all of the present observable order, more than it models the Biblical record evidence for the existence of Jehovah, the maximal Biblical god designer.

RAZD is dead.
.
.
.

He was the most comprehensive in his arguments, the most gentle in his replies, and the most creative in his visions.

Never met personally but he was a friend and ally under any definition.

This sucks so bad I couldn't even look at this place for two months.

Very sad to read this. Learned a lot from RAZD, such an amount of info he gathered for us and he was a very sound lad. He was a big part of what made EVC for me.

I find it CRASS you would use this thread for this purpose.

The two vague groups, "science" and, "religion" are used to lump people into two groups, which RAZD no doubt would have appreciated as being a false logical disjunction sometimes known popularly as a, "false dichotomy" and less commonly as a "limited choice fallacy".

The fact is the term, "religion" is too broad a category, and your argument fails to note that there will be qualified creation scientists or designists that likely would as scientists be able to come up with something more sophisticated than, "dad"s response.

Which is precisely why the disjunction you propose is false, because people cannot be lumped into two broad categories. The fact is you will find incompetent people on the side of evolution and on the side of creation also, just as in any human group traits are not decided based on this binary grouping of two terms. (a rather ODD corollary of "new-atheism" this false dichotomy)

That is absurd, ignorance is ubiquitous and it can be shown to exist in both religious and non-religious people.

This is really basic stuff, it's a real good example as to why I can never be an evolutionist, because I don't have the ability of a mendax flagrante.

To think in such crude, uneducated terms shows a very basic ineptitude even of basic logical notation. To actually believe you live in a world where all people are evolutionist and wonderful and on the side of science and all that don't accept evolution are not is at best insulting even to the agnosts that accept or are open to ID, and at worst CRUDE and shows a distinct lack of acuity.
