But what would have happened had there been no body cam footage. The police officer likely would have made up whatever story he needed to justify the arrest (remember, they're expert at that), and nurse Wubbels would have been charged instead of released.
Exactly.
I think it is very helpful to have an adversarial judicial system, but sometimes it swings too far in one direction. In the case of the police, they know that in 99% of cases they can say whatever they want and it will be taken as the truth. It has led to systemic abuse.

So then get rid of a police force altogether and see how well that works out for society. Crime increase by 500% overnight. If, as you are suggesting, the actual problem is police officers then it stands to reason that a police force is unnecessary in your estimation.
The bobbies in the UK don't have guns and their crime rate is lower than in the US. I highly, highly doubt that any criminal even considers armed police vs. unarmed police as a consideration in their criminal activities.

The trial is just beginning, but it was some months ago that Dallas police officer Amber Guyger walked into her apartment, saw a stranger lurking in the dark who did not obey her orders, and shot him dead. Only problem was she was on the wrong floor. She was on the fourth floor, not the third, and had walked into the apartment of the now deceased Botham Jean, who lived one floor above her.
The question that always comes to my mind is what charges would a 25 year old black man be facing if he did the same thing and wasn't a cop.

I'm simply trying to convey a reality that you would like to pretend doesn't exist... namely that savagery exists and has to be dealt with.
Human fallibility exists, and that fallibility results in unneeded deaths when firearms are introduced to the mix. Reaching towards your back pocket to grab your ID is not savagery, yet a US citizen was killed by police for doing just that.
Unfortunately, our police have been trained to shoot first and ask questions later. If they feel threatened they are taught to shoot people. Perhaps we should ask the question if it might be better to train them to flee the situation if they feel threatened and call in the appropriate force if its needed.

Amber Guyger has been found guilty of murder in the death of Botham Jean, whom she shot and killed while in his own apartment after mistaking it for her own. Speaking outside the court, Attorney Lee Merritt representing the Jean family in the civil case said, "It's a signal that the tide is going to change here. Police officers are going to be held accountable for their actions, and we believe this is going to change the policing culture all over the world."
He's wrong, of course.
Wow, you ordered a category 5 hurricane to rain on that parade.
I do share your cynicism, but maybe we should hope for the best while preparing for the worst. Just maybe.
Police are people just like us who have been handed a great amount of responsibility and a gun. They make mistakes at the same rate we do, and no amount of training will change that.
Completely agree. Training should be focused on preventing as much harm as possible to innocent civilians instead of encouraging police to shoot first and ask questions later. This will lessen the damage caused by fallible human judgments.

See? Special units are armed.
I'm leaning that way myself. Why does a cop need a gun for issuing a speeding ticket. If you walk up and the driver pulls a gun then turn around, run to your car, lock the door. Perhaps the police officer could have a gun in the car that can be used when someone keeps shooting at them when they are in the car. If the suspect speeds away, call it in and get the special units to chase them down.
Right now, an officer will have his hand on the gun, ready to draw and fire at the slightest provocation, just for a speeding ticket. That makes no sense.

The issue of Floyd is not a black thing or an anti-white thing. It is human behavior in general.
Unfortunately, part of human behavior is racial bias. If a police officer pulls over a Mercedes-Benz sedan driven by a well off white dude, do you think he has his hand on his gun ready to fire at first sign of a threatening move? Probably not. However, that is how some police officers treat minorities when they are pulled over. That doesn't even get into how often black people are pulled over for the most innocuous behavior, as compared to the richer and whiter counterparts. We even had Sherriff Joe Arpaio in Arizona who was convicted of racial profiling.
I do appreciate what you are saying, but we shouldn't ignore the problem of racial bias that does exist.

Do black lives matter when it comes to police officers?
If I run in a 5k supporting breast cancer research, does this mean I don't care about prostate cancer research? There is an implied ",too" at the end of "black lives matter".
Is there national outrage when a black officer is attacked by a white suspect for absolutely no reason?
You can be against both violence against cops and misuse of force by cops. Right now, there appears to be much less accountability for cops who misuse force which is what the unrest is about.
Edited by Taq, : No reason given.

No, there isn't.... as evidenced by the vitriol poised against All Lives Matter...
Someone with a big "All cancers matter" sign at a 5k breast cancer awareness run would be a troll, especially if there is a well known and vocal movement to downplay the extent of breast cancer.
Literal equality is now racist.
That is true, but probably not in the way you think. Black America being treated as equal feels like racism to the previously privileged classes.
Can you at least, just a little, not see how the media is manipulative? At some point you are going to have to do some critical thinking on your own and stop taking cues from a dishonest media that is dying and who can only justify their own existence by keeping you enraged as a means of keeping you engaged.
At some point, you are going to need to think on your own instead of just parroting "media bias" all of the time.
