Billy Joe Shaver, 81
Not very familiar with him, but checking his songs written & covered by country giants, plus remembering that he was name-checked in a recent Dylan song, made me put his name in.
Not the best way to get to 100 posts in this thread, but...

And if you manage to do that I would like to talk to you about your time machine. Do you realize the opportunities? The women, xongsmith. Think of the women.

Re: Alex Trebek, 80
I hadn't seen Mr. Trebek in probably 30 years and so when I saw the news tonight I would have never even recognized him. It's always sad when nice folk die though and so I can only pray for his family.

Tom Heinsohn, 86
no. 15 in the rafters of the Boston Celtics.
I knew him as the coach when they won in 74 and 76.
his TV career was a fun ride. "Who gets the Tommy Point tonight?"
perhaps only a borderline great.

Arecibo.
Most would have heard by now that two cables holding the central receiver platform above the 300+ meter diameter dish of the telescope failed and each cable fell into the dish causing extensive damage.
There has been much discussion about repair or just let the poor thing expire.
Last Monday, yesterday, the cable support system failed in total and the entire 900 ton receiver assembly fell 150+ meters into the already damaged dish below.
The Arecibo Radio Observatory has finally passed on and is no more.

Re: Rip Chuck Yeager
I liked that guy! Death is always an eventual reality. Yesterday I found out that my 97 year old Mom tested positive for COVID19. I cried and am crying, so bare with me if I seem like a bit of an asshole today. I'm mad! SO far she only has a mild fever, though.
