Canada has recently had three provincial elections (New Brunswick, British Columbia and Saskatchewan) which returned the incumbents with majorities. The pundits say that with the covid situation, people don't want another change to add to the uncertainty. There were also large increases in mail-in voting and advanced voting, also attributed to covid anxiety.
Now, all of the governments returned are far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far better than Trump. Changes might have been "nice", all things being equal, but it would have been like choosing between a 5 and a 6 on a scale of 1 to 10.
In the American case, the choice is much more obvious.
