Remember that in the US we can't even get everybody to get a Flu shot.

It's going to be interesting to see what the anti-vac brigade do about that. But if they stick to their dumb beliefs it'll be a self-solving problem.

As for me and my house ...
I'm at the age where we got both Polio vaccines and I have little or no problem lining up to add each successful vaccine as they become available but I really imagine that we are going to see a series similar to Flu where we will need a vaccine for THIS Seasons Covid; perhaps even semi-annually.

Apparently the UK pre-bought 40m does - enough for 20m people (it needs two doses 1 month apart). Health service workers and at risk people get the first batch.
I wonder how they work out the allocation of the rest?
Stock market has gone ballistic.

I have to say, I hope so. I don’t want to be rude about the staff at the NHS, and they generally do a fantastic job, but the sooner they get back to fully treating the myriad of other life threatening and life altering diseases and conditions, which seem to have been forgotten in all this, the better.
I know of three people who are in remission from cancer. All three have had their annual check-ups cancelled and not re-scheduled. One of them had this happen 5 months ago. Last month, after starting to feel ill, he managed to persuade them to review his case. He has developed serious secondary cancers, which could have been picked up much sooner, if they hadn’t cancelled his check-up. This is a horrible pandemic - but it is not the only horrible and fatal disease out there.

Could there be any greater conceit, than for someone to believe that the universe has to be simple enough for them to be able to understand it ?

For the next couple months in the US only the essential workers; ie:Republican Congessmen and Presidential Staff & family will get it.
After Jan 20th the plan is Health Care workers will be Group 1. Next Group 2, the elderly and those with compromised health. Group 3 will be everyone else. The US will need something on the order of 600 million doses.

and a worrying trend locally.
Really really discomforting news trend locally ...
we had seen the number of Covid-19 cases significantly lower for October than we had from August and September but were still seeing between 125 and 150 new cases daily ...
then yesterday it jumped to 426 new cases ...
and today to 681 new cases ...
and we are heading into the Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years party days.
Not good folk, not good.

And today another 679 cases.
The worst part of this trend is that it does not seem to be local clusters but rather wide spread with new infections in every city in the county.
The jump from 125-150 average new cases a day has been sudden. Several possible sources are Labor Day, the voting, Mexican Independence Day (bigger than Cinco de Mayo) but also the return of the true Texas Religion, High School Football.

Just when we thought things were looking up, we now have a new variant of the bug that is between 40 to 100% more transmissible and Christmas is cancelled. ffs.
I also have an employee, face down, ventilated, in intensive care not expected to make it and 4 of his close family infected.
Life is pretty crap at the moment.
edit:they're saying c50% now

I have family in 'murika and she works in health care as a nurse (been doing it for last 5-6 years?)
She received her first of the 2-shots a few days ago.
-Illinois, Chicago suburbs (not a main Chicago hospital.)
Of course, I don't expect this to be indicative of the US as a whole - but, at least it's starting.

While it is good to emulate the Japanese art of improving on other nation’s technologies, terminal Chinese pathogens is not the technology you should be improving.
Sorrow for your employee and family.

It looks like the great Swedish experiment has ended in tragedy
For much of this year, those who object to measures to control the virus have hailed Sweden as a libertarian paradise, supposedly showing us how Covid-19 could be kept under control without intrusive government restrictions.
Of late, these champions have fallen silent. It’s not hard to explain why. Recent days have seen Sweden’s Nordic neighbours Finland and Norway offering emergency medical assistance as Stockholm’s hospitals have been overwhelmed, infections and deaths have spiked dramatically upward, and the King of Sweden has made an unprecedented criticism of the government’s bungled strategy.

Just a correction
...a new variant of the bug that is between 40 to 100 times more transmissible ...
It's actually determined to be ~40 to 100 % more transmissible, not times.
