Health service workers and at risk people get the first batch. I have to say, I hope so. I don’t want to be rude about the staff at the NHS, and they generally do a fantastic job, but the sooner they get back to fully treating the myriad of other life threatening and life altering diseases and conditions, which seem to have been forgotten in all this, the better. I know of three people who are in remission from cancer. All three have had their annual check-ups cancelled and not re-scheduled. One of them had this happen 5 months ago. Last month, after starting to feel ill, he managed to persuade them to review his case. He has developed serious secondary cancers, which could have been picked up much sooner, if they hadn’t cancelled his check-up. This is a horrible pandemic - but it is not the only horrible and fatal disease out there.Could there be any greater conceit, than for someone to believe that the universe has to be simple enough for them to be able to understand it ?

And here is an extract from the CDC's own website:
Over 92 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines were administered in the United States from December 14, 2020, through March 8, 2021. During this time, VAERS received 1,637 reports of death (0.0018%) among people who received a COVID-19 vaccine. CDC and FDA physicians review each case report of death as soon as notified and CDC requests medical records to further assess reports.A review of available clinical information including death certificates, autopsy, and medical records revealed noevidence that vaccination contributed to patient deaths.CDC and FDA will continue to investigate reports of adverse events, including deaths, reported to VAERS. Here is the link: Selected Adverse Events Reported after COVID-19 Vaccination | CDC Read the penultimate sentence of the quotation. Now, how do you square that with your claim that the data from CDC show 5.5%, or 1,095 deaths ? It is a very real possibility that vaccines will make it worse. Just like the flu vaccines have made things worse for the past 75 years or so. Oh, wait.....Could there be any greater conceit, than for someone to believe that the universe has to be simple enough for them to be able to understand it ?

With omicron's transmissibility, this thing is gonna go round massively, no matter what we do. The South African data suggests the cases drop after a certain point, however. The fact that it's more transmissible, but much less deadly, is encouraging.
My best wishes for your niece and for everyone else here and their families - but hopefully a milder and more transmissible form of the disease will help build up herd immunity. Fingers crossed for an easier future. Edited by vimesey, : No reason given.Edited by vimesey, : No reason given. It's worth putting the graph in the context of the article's concluding two paragraphs:
Taking all this together, we expect SARS-CoV-2 will continue to cause new epidemics, but they will increasingly be driven by the ability to skirt around the immune system. In this sense, the future may look something like the seasonal flu, where new variants cause waves of cases each year. If this happens, which we expect it will, vaccines may need to be updated regularly similar to the flu vaccines unless we develop broader variant-proof vaccines. And of course, how much all this matters for public health depends on how sick the virus makes us. That is the hardest prediction to make, because evolution selects for viruses that spread well, and whether that makes disease severity go up or down is mostly a matter of luck. But we do know that immunity reduces disease severity even when it doesn’t fully block infections and spread, and immunity gained from vaccination and prior infections has helped blunt the impact of the Omicron wave in many countries. Updated or improved vaccines and other measures that slow transmission remain our best strategies for handling an uncertain evolutionary future. Covid is here to stay, like the flu and loads of other diseases. The good news is that it's fatality is rapidly decreasing, such that its fatality is now less than the flu (albeit it's a lot more contagious). The following graph is from the Financial Times :

It's a death rate per capita of population, rather than per person who got infected, so I'd guess that one contributing factor was a high rate of transmission of the virus, due to very large numbers of people being in close proximity in the city of New York (subway trains etc). (I'm going on very vague recollection here, but I understand New York is a pretty densely populated city ??)

(Thought through how to approach this one, and decided to go for a smile in the end).
Stay positive - but don't stay positive ! (Get well soon mate).Could there be any greater conceit, than for someone to believe that the universe has to be simple enough for them to be able to understand it ?

Have a read of this.
Just a moment... If you disagree, present your experimental data.Could there be any greater conceit, than for someone to believe that the universe has to be simple enough for them to be able to understand it ?

Once again, if you disagree, present your data.

You have presented no data. All you have is a river in Egypt.
And having kept tabs on the reports on her, she is still doing very well. Are you genuinely so conceited, that you would rather a young girl die, than you be wrong ?Could there be any greater conceit, than for someone to believe that the universe has to be simple enough for them to be able to understand it ?

The data are all there in the references - look them up.
And she hasn't died. So do you therefore admit you are wrong ?Could there be any greater conceit, than for someone to believe that the universe has to be simple enough for them to be able to understand it ?

And yes, we all die. But she will live a longer life, thanks to intelligent, kind, brilliant scientists, who have no religious agenda. You're flailing and failing Kleinman - and are pointing to religious dogma with no empirical evidence, in a vain effort to support the crap you've swallowed all your life. I'm off to bed now - I'll leave you to carry on with your pathetic mewling.Could there be any greater conceit, than for someone to believe that the universe has to be simple enough for them to be able to understand it ?

Well, another day dawns, and we have yet another step forward in the fight against cancer, based on a deep understanding of how million year old retroviruses that have nested in our DNA can be awakened by cancerous cell growth, prompting the immune system to target and fight the cancerous cells. Have a read here:

Took me all of 60 seconds to find this study in The Lancet:
https://www.sciencedirect.com/...ticle/pii/S0140673620311429 The data show that masks help to reduce the spread of covid, which helped whilst the vaccine was developed. Are you genuinely too scared of being shown to be wrong to do your own research ? On the plus side, it's a lot of fun seeing you constantly try to support your fantasies through unevidenced denial and misapplied mathematics.Could there be any greater conceit, than for someone to believe that the universe has to be simple enough for them to be able to understand it ?
