Hi vimesey I get it from our constitution.The majority does not rule as it does in a democracy.Each state has 2 senators regardless of the population of the state.When it comes to changing the constitution each state gets 1 vote to ratify or deny. At the present it requires 38 states ratifying an amendment to change our constitution.If the US was a democracy less than 10 states could control everything.It is also in our pledge to the flag.
