Could you explain what a democratic republic is? ICANT writes:
Nope. It's only fairly recently in the US that the majority is even eligible to vote.
I know what a democracy a majority rules. ICANT writes:
And in the US, many public officials are not elected - e.g. the Supreme Court, Federal prosecutors, etc. In a republic the majority does not rule. So the US is neither a pure democracy nor a pure republic."I've been to Moose Jaw, now I can die." -- John Wing

Trump noticed that the #DiaperDon hashtag was trending on Twitter and threw a childish tantrum. Demanding the immediate repeal of Section 230 on the grounds of National Security.

The recount in Milwaukee County, Wisconsin is complete - with a net gain of 132 votes. For Biden.
Was that really worth more than a million dollars?

Hi ringo
ringo writes: Nope. It's only fairly recently in the US that the majority is even eligible to vote. Actually in the early days you had to be a landowner to vote.Hiram Rhodes Revels voted before the civil war and later became the first Republican African American senator in 1870, representing Mississippi Joseph Rainey was the first African-American representative to be seated in the U.S. House. He served South Carolina's 1st congressional districtbeginning in 1870 He was also the first African American to be the speaker of the house. The first woman to actively pursue the country’s highest office was Victoria Woodhull a stockbroker, newspaper publisher, and champion of social reform who ran for the presidency in 1872, Just to clear a little of the air.
ringo writes: So the US is neither a pure democracy nor a pure republic. Senators of the United States Congress were originally chosen by state legislatures, in the beginning. So yes in a republic there are many officials who are not elected by popular vote. The Republicans in Arizona are making a case suggesting voting fraud. Despite being struck down in Pennsylvania for baseless assertions there, they appear to have a more solid case in Arizona. It was foreknown that this election was going to be close, and my question overall is this:
If there was any sort of fraud, did the means justify the end? If it meant winning the war, were the minor efforts to tip the scale and counter the Republican strategy to secure electoral votes (since they could never win the popular vote) justifiable in order to "save the Democracy"?"A lie can travel half way around the world while the truth is putting on its shoes." ~Mark Twain " *** far from science having buried God, not only do the results of science point towards his existence, but the scientific enterprise itself is validated by his existence.- Dr.John Lennox The whole war between the atheist and the theist comes down to this: the atheist believes a 'what' created the universe; the theist believes a 'who' created the universe.- Criss Jami, Killo The most difficult subjects can be explained to the most slow-witted man if he has not formed any idea of them already; but the simplest thing cannot be made clear to the most intelligent man if he is firmly persuaded that he knows already, without a shadow of a doubt, what is laid before him. But have they got any real evidence? Every legal case has either refused to allege fraud or come up with a pile of nonsense. And if there was fraud in Arizona and not the other states it wouldn’t change the outcome.
I do not think that actual fraud big enough to tilt a state election occurred. And if it did it was more likely the Republicans - practically every proven case in recent years has been Republican fraud. If it did happen I don’t think it was justified despite the dangers of four more years of Trump. But Trump claiming fraud - as he always does when an election doesn’t go the way he wants is just divisive and destructive. Trump and his supporters have a lot to answer for on that count. As is the violent rhetoric, such as the idea that Chris Krebs (Message 4390) should be executed for going against the fraud narrative,

The Republicans in Arizona are making a case suggesting voting fraud. Stop it, Phat! This is bogus bullshit. Some AZ repugnicans are suggesting, as repugnicans have in other crucial-count states, that anomalies in voting processes took place BUT CANNOT detail any known, only alleged, cases without any supporting documentation. This is a continuation of the Trump "Steal the Election" bullshit. Republican lawmakers in Arizona hold meeting with Rudy Giuliani Rudy Giuliani, for god sake! You can't get a more dishonest presentation of facts. You do your nation, your society, no favors in propagating this fascist crap. Stop! Well "protecting" democracy by circumventing democracy is a bit like protecting the peace by going to war. There may be occasional cases where it's the lesser of two evils - but usually not. If there was any sort of fraud, did the means justify the end? But the bigger issue here is whether or not your voting system is so fragile that it CAN be circumvented. I don't think it is, but if it was, what you should have been concerned about was fixing the system."I've been to Moose Jaw, now I can die." -- John Wing

just out of curiosity do you believe that republicans in general are any more evil than liberals?? Because if you do we have problems. i see both ideologies as both good and evil in roughly equal measure...its just that we wrestle with different demons.

Phat writes: just out of curiosity do you believe that republicans in general are any more evil than liberals?? I would not say Republicans but rather all of those who are totally divorced from reality, reason and evidence based decision making. Granted almost all of the Federal Elected Republicans fall into that category as well as the leaders of the Christian Cult of Ignorance and all the Christian Apologists, they are simply evil; the followers are simply those who have chosen to not learn how to think, not evil but rather pitiful.

There are no demons and anyone who falls back on demons is simply being less than honest and looking for a way to ignore their own culpability. Edited by jar, : missed a they

do you believe that republicans in general are any more evil than liberals?? Defining "evil" as attempts to disenfranchise minority voters by the millions, doing nothing substantial to stem a plague ravaging the nation, legislating barriers to middle class, health & safety and equality programs, creating armed conflict rather then curtailing it and funneling $500 billion (that's billion with a "b") to highly profitable corporations while forsaking the rest of the people in this society... then, yes, the modern republican party is evil.

quote: I’d say that Republican politicians are in general worse, and those enabling Trump are definitely worse. Really, how can splitting the country with the false fraud narrative not be an awful thing? Especially when there are Trump supporters calling for the deaths of civil servants that don’t toe the Trump party line? This is not to say that the Democrats are automatically good. But I don’t think they’ve done anything that bad.
