Re: A Canadian Christmas
We had Christmas day in Canada with a family who had recently immigrated to Canada from Nigeria but we had our family Christmas over in Lynden Washington with my son and his family of all boys, (all 6 feet or so) as well as a couple of their babies. This of course makes me a great-grandfather which is no longer a relative but an ancestor.

He has told you, O man, what is good ; And what does the LORD require of you But to do justice, to love kindness, And to walk humbly with your God.
Micah 6:8

Re: A Canadian Christmas
Indeed you are an ancestor. Reminds me that one of my cousins, the one my age who was really into horses (and still is) and put me on one on every summer trip to Canada as a kid, is also now a great grandmother, of so many I couldn't count them all myself, and she might even be on the way to great great grandmotherhood.

Re: A Canadian Christmas
The daughter and I had a Canadian Christmas, sort of.
Vaped Indica to celebrate legalization.
Binge watched Letterkenney's latest season to celebrate wit and debauchery.
Ate Southwest-style poutine (uses Tucumcari mild feta instead of cheese curds).
Drank brandy (not Canadian - should have used Rye).
Not 100% but damn close for NM.

2020 Christmas Correspondence
Since this topic was started one year ago by Faith, I will reprint her letter to me via email. She might get mad, but I wanted to share it with all here because we are family, even if we dont like each other all that much.
quote:
Hello Phat/Craig/Thugs
Merry Christmas!
Had the opportunity to use another computer recently so took a look at the forum. Didn't get to read mucfh of it but did find Percy's post about banning me and the thread of reactions to it. Hard to understand how I tolerated being so despised for so long. I do appreciate the posts thta object to censorship and the very few who say something positive about me.
Wish I knew where to find another forum I might enjoy but my efforts haven't yielded anything, and besides my eyes are much worse and I may soon have to give up the internet completely.
Also saw where Pecry says he's blocked my email because I kept sending him information about Hydroxychloroquine. Too bad there is such a prejudice against that drug and for all the wrong reasons though I suppose I can't persuade you of that either. I consider it tragic, even criminal, that a drug that could have saved tens of thousands of lives has been the victim of stupid excuses for scientific studies and even stupider politics. I hope I can get hold of the drug if I ever need it.
Hope you're doing well.
Faith

For starters, I wonder why she holds such a grudge in favor of this one stupid point and why it matters so much to her to be right? I like Faith and wish her a Merry Christmas. I am sorry about her declining health. And I wish she would just drop that whole argument...but apparently she wont.
So to everyone here: Consider that in her own weird way she is wishing you all a Merry Christmas. You too, Percy.
And I wish you all a grand Seasons Greetings and Happy New Year as well!

It is odd why she thinks that this drug is any good for COVID when it's been researched to death by people highly motivated to want it to work.

She’s probably just upset that the truth is preferred to Trump’s lies. So the last couple of months have probably been very stressful to her.

Re: 2020 Christmas Correspondence
Faith has been posting to her blog. She resumed posting shortly after she was suspended here. I guess she needs an outlet.
I was planning to listen to The Messiah. So I went with the version she recommended in a recent blog post. It was a pretty good performance.

Faith's insanity on every subject she addressed and and moderator's total lack of control is why I stopped participating here more than a year ago.
She and those who support the same bullshit endanger human civilization.

Yes, I have a special place in my heart for the girl. I really like(ed) the intellect and grit but she has more than just a few screws loose and some missing altogether. I'm afraid I actually miss the crazy, though.
Some may have noticed that without the nutjobs spewing trash all over the lawn this part of the world can get ... less than totally interesting.
Just sayin.

Interesting creationists seem to be extinct.
EvC could still be a valued discussion venue of cutting edge science.
Repetitious endless discussions of religion and politics are less than minutely interesting for me.

Would you like me to start a topic on the Fermi paradox - Wikipedia?
Or maybe the coming apocalypse from strong AI?
If you start your hot button issue I promise to come on by to give it the benefit of my considerable ignorance.

Or maybe the coming apocalypse from strong AI?
I like that one, but it seems like there are several completely different kinds of computing systems that are being called AI.
The Fermi Paradox is interesting, but everything is just guess work because we only have one data point for life, Earth.
If you start your hot button issue I promise to come on by to give it the benefit of my considerable ignorance.
My primary hot button issue is the Anthropocene and how human impact on this planet has created a precipice and we are already on the slippery slope heading in to a really indefinite future. I have been embedded in the habitat loss and invasive species parts of the equation for the last 30 years or more. I despair the out right attacks on science and knowledge and education, which are the only things that can sustain our civilization and give us any chance of surviving global warming.
It's harder to find time for EvC and if I do, I'm much more interested in sharing ideas than debating that subjects that by their very nature can never be settled.
I'm really, really tired of assholes and I have jettisoned every single one from my life.

Christmas in New Mexico
We (the daughter and I) watched The Gospel According to Matthew by Pier Paolo Pasolini. The production values were abhorrent, don't think there was a professional actor in sight, it's in B&W of course and in Italian so subtitles will likely be necessary.
They couldn't even afford a second eyebrow for the lead.
However, the script was fantastic. Better than even Dalton Trumbo's finest. Excellent dialogue, especially the lead and the engaging plot more than makes up for the flaws. Wonder who wrote it?
Then we binge watched Letterkenny.

The problem with knowing everything is learning nothing.
If you don't know what you're doing, find someone who does, and do what they do.
