Could you explain what a democratic republic is?
In a republic, public officials are elected. In a democracy, they are elected by the people.

I know what a democracy a majority rules.
Nope. It's only fairly recently in the US that the majority is even eligible to vote.

In a republic the majority does not rule.
And in the US, many public officials are not elected - e.g. the Supreme Court, Federal prosecutors, etc.
So the US is neither a pure democracy nor a pure republic.
