Re: And in a further strike against the Republic
It’s the Doctrine of Laches. But - as usual with these cases there’s a lot more wrong with it, and it goes against a lot of Conservative legal thinking.

More on election fraud
A group calling itself the Trump Digital Army recruited an actual data scientist (not a Military Intelligence Analyst who didn’t even manage to complete the training) to look at the results in Nevada, looking for evidence of fraud.
The results were predictable
Nevada Independent
In almost every measure looked at...
There was no evidence of fraud.
There was no evidence of fraud.
There was no evidence of fraud.
And, as an interesting aside
Members of the Tea Party NV party were twice as likely to attempt double voting, however, it was still less than 50 people
When there are attempts at voter fraud, it’s the Republicans at it. It almost always is.

Pardons
The first batch of Trump pardons is out.
It includes Blackwater contractors guilty of massacring Iraqi civilians.
Two border agents who killed an illegal immigrant who was fleeing for the border.
Two of the men charged as a result of the Mueller investigation.
Cronies and murderers.
I’m sure his base will love them.
Also,Duncan Hunter because insider trading is fine if you support Trump. And I bet his base are fine with that, too. Like Trump they are great fans of corruption.

Re: Pardons
Stone and Manafort - convicted as a result of the Mueller investigation get pardons, so does Kushner’s father.
More corruption and cronies.
No surprise there.

Re: Pardons
Orin Kerr comments:
Not sure which is more remarkable: That the President sees the pardon power as a way to reward his friends, or that the President has so many friends who need pardons.
Of course, it’s Trump - so no surprise there.

Another kraken secret witness
While the military intelligence analyst who flunked the training was bad enough, it seems another can at least claim some expertise in the matter of fraud. Having been convicted.
judgement (pdf)
She claimed to be setting up a charitable event in North Dakota (which never happened), solicited donations, sold merchandise and kept the money. On top of that she displayed a fake email allegedly from the Bank of North Dakota and used the Coin of the City of Minot to suggest an official connection with the city - even though she was repeatedly told to stop because no such connection existed.
She also falsely claimed - among other things - to be a 22 year veteran of Naval Intelligence, to be running a medical lab and to be a doctor. None of those were true.
I guess we can see why Sidney Powell would want to keep her identity secret.

Re: Coup!
Yes, Trump incited them. And they knew that Pence wasn’t going to exercise his imaginary power to throw out votes Trump didn’t like. They may even have known that McConnell wasn’t going along with the steal either. Maybe this is the wake-up call America needed.

Re: My Two Cents
But it doesn’t matter what they think. The truth matters too.
It is true that there is no evidence of systematic electoral fraud. There have been recounts and audits and they have found nothing.
It is a fact that most of the lawsuits that have been thrown out weren’t about fraud. They were attempts to steal the election by throwing out votes. That the vast majority of those votes were cast in good faith according to the rules laid out at the time, by people fully entitled to vote did not matter to those filing the lawsuits. They were just cynical attempts to manipulate the system.
It is a fact that Pence did not have the authority to reject the ballots sent by the States - let alone accept ballots from pretenders.
So were the people who stormed the Capitol in an attempt to reject the election results doing something good? No. At best they were like the guy who took a rifle to a pizza parlour to rescue imaginary children from an imaginary basement. What they did was bad, and they are at the least culpable for not ascertaining the facts before taking such drastic action.

Oh, just as an addition I’m sure that the neo-Nazis wearing 6MWE shirts - it stands for 6 Million Wasn’t Enough - think that they’re good.
It doesn’t mean they aren’t evil. Let’s see you both sides that one.

Re: Musing
So far as I know the rioters didn’t kill anyone directly. However, under US law that may not matter. There are some pretty dubious murder convictions around.

Re: Trump finally succeeds for the first time in his life.

No one side should have all that power.
The Republicans did at the start of Trump’s term. And their margin in the Senate wasn’t the bare minimum either.

What will end up happening if we are not careful is that they will swing the pendulum too far left and it will empower the right to overcorrect it yet again
Biden is hardly an extremist, the bare minimum majority in the Senate means that even one Democrat abstaining from a vote could cause a defeat. And then there’s quite a lot that needs to be undone from the Trump years. Not to mention the mid-term elections can change things.
Or in short, there’s really no chance of Biden being able to go too far.
I worry more that large numbers of Republican Representatives voted to challenge that State’s votes to try to keep Trump’s hold in the Presidency. Trumpism is a big problem for the US and unless it’s contained a Democrat majority is probably better for you.

I can't see it happening. Surely these patriot zealots are a definite minority. Time will tell, however. And what do they have to be mad about? Its not as if Trump did much for their socioeconomic group.
Because they are violent racists. Neo-Nazis, Neo-Confederates and other White Supremacists. The biggest terrorist threat in the US today.

Trump being Trump
It appears that Trump is going to stiff Giuliano on his fees. Who could have seen that coming?

Trump avoided giving explicit instructions , so it’s going to be argued. But it is more evidence for incitement.
For me the killer argument is how else were they going to win? Pence wasn’t going along with the craziness, the House wouldn’t pass any objections - and with McConnell opposing it wasn’t even clear that the objections would win in the Senate.
Even if they’d sent a load of death threats to Republican Congressmen it’s hard to see how a demonstration outside the Capitol would have made a difference. Pence was following his Constitutional role and the objections were going to fail.
Trump told them to go out and be strong and they could reverse the election. A demonstration wouldn’t do that and I’m sure they knew that much.
