My two cents, for what it's worth.
I think there will be violence - I think there will be more deaths, perhaps even some lynchings. I think that the fascists think they can have their revolution, and will push it hard. The main actors in this shit shower are violent men, who desperately want to fight, maim and kill - they're not thinking much about the chances of success.
I think they will fail in overturning the US government. I think the majority of Americans will be disgusted and start to feel that this is not what they wanted. Large numbers of Proud Bois and Boogalooers will be arrested - those organisations will become proscribed and there will be an increased focus on domestic terrorism.
There will be a growing recognition of a divided society - and work will need to be done on both sides, to reach across that divide.
Part of the debate will need to focus on the Internet. It has become a thoroughly toxic environment, enabling extremism and the sort of populism which leads to fascism. Free speech is not a simplistic concept - it is nuanced and complex and is not absolute. (For example, I understand that it is already an offence in the States to incite a riot).
Get Arnie to tell some more stories about his father and grandfather and their friends in post-war Austria. They are poignant and carry weight - and he is a strong man's strong man. Get the stories out about what happened in Weimar Germany in the 20s and 30s. Run the parallels - they're powerful and easy to understand.
Be kind and sympathetic to Trump supporters - anger and condescension won't sell the product. Discuss and debate with a smile and with care. They won't be told, but they might start to listen, and their echo chamber might slowly crumble. It will take time.
This will be a marathon and not a sprint. And there will be a lot of pain - but the US is a country at the vanguard of democracy and freedom. And it needs to stay there.
Could there be any greater conceit, than for someone to believe that the universe has to be simple enough for them to be able to understand it ?
