COVID vaccine works - we're saved!

Remember that in the US we can't even get everybody to get a Flu shot.

I'm at the age where we got both Polio vaccines and I have little or no problem lining up to add each successful vaccine as they become available but I really imagine that we are going to see a series similar to Flu where we will need a vaccine for THIS Seasons Covid; perhaps even semi-annually.

For the next couple months in the US only the essential workers; ie:Republican Congessmen and Presidential Staff & family will get it.After Jan 20th the plan is Health Care workers will be Group 1. Next Group 2, the elderly and those with compromised health. Group 3 will be everyone else. The US will need something on the order of 600 million doses.

Really really discomforting news trend locally ...we had seen the number of Covid-19 cases significantly lower for October than we had from August and September but were still seeing between 125 and 150 new cases daily ...then yesterday it jumped to 426 new cases ...and today to 681 new cases ...and we are heading into the Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years party days.Not good folk, not good.

And today another 679 cases.The worst part of this trend is that it does not seem to be local clusters but rather wide spread with new infections in every city in the county.The jump from 125-150 average new cases a day has been sudden. Several possible sources are Labor Day, the voting, Mexican Independence Day (bigger than Cinco de Mayo) but also the return of the true Texas Religion, High School Football.

At the current rate we are seeing in the US we should get everyone vaccinated by 2031.

Finally got my 1st Pfizer shot today when someone canceled an appointment. The second shot is scheduled for April 8th.

Hidalgo County is part of the Rio Grande Valley, and area of Texas that is fast growing and historically votes Democratic. It's the home of Lloyd Bentsen.The population from the last census is 800,000 so it will be in reality considerably more once this latest census is reported.It is a relatively poor area with a high percentage of older and retired people as well as a large Hispanic culture.So far Hidalgo County has been allocated (in Texas it's the State that allocates vaccines to areas) a grand total of 54,000 first doses and almost 30,000 second doses.We are still averaging over 400 new cases every day.And it's Spring Break with the beaches and bars all fully opened and the State removed any mask mandates.There is still no online or over the phone vaccine pre-registry for the County.All of the organized vaccine registries are only announced at the last minute and are ones where it's necessary to drive to a location.It's comforting to know we are saved.I was finally able to get a first dose of the Pfizer vaccine but only because my Walgreens pharmacist knew I'd been unable to do so and so had his staff call be if someone canceled an appointment. I have been able to schedule a second dose through the CVS network.But all of this is so totally fucked up and deplorable.For over a year it has been obvious that there would be vaccines at some time.For over a year it has been obvious that some registry to set and allocate vaccines would be needed.And for over a year no State, no Federal Agency, no County Government set up a simply damn database so that a registry could be created with names, contact, ages, health conditions so that as soon as a vaccine did become available distribution could begin in an orderly and efficient manner.The bill always get paid.This time the bill was only a half million lives.A mere pittance and mostly from the worthless Blue voters and POC and poor and share croppers so a bargain.Edited by jar, : missed one line

Also I'm not sure it's fair to label any part the Trump Virus beyond the US. The stupidity was near universal and while all governments were equally stupid in this case the US under Trump was more equal.

Back up to new infection daily numbers higher than anything this year. More hospital beds filled with Covid-19 cases than at anytime since August of last year. Most ICU beds filled with Covid-19 cases since last year.It's time to recognize that no one who has not been vaccinated against Covid-19 should be allowed on any public transportation, in any public store or workplace, in any school or government building and that anyone showing signs of Covid-19 infection who cannot produce verifiable evidence of being vaccinated should not be allowed hospital admittance if there is another non-Covid-19 patient.There should be NO religious or philosophical exemptions and any applications for medical exemptions should require independent second opinions and verification.No one should be required to get a Covid vaccine but there is no possible excuse for allowing such people into the general population.Edited by jar, : more ---> most

In Hidalgo County Texas with a 2020 Census count of 870,781 (the figures are really a total joke. They show that over half of the White population left the county) there are only 65 empty hospital beds total.There was a major systemic effort by the Trump supporters in the county to encourage people NOT to respond to this census. As a result the new figures show 55.9% fewer white classification respondents. Over 300,000 fewer white classification respondents were found in this census so it was NOT a matter of other classifications increasing significantly and over 200,000 of those respondents were in the 18 year old and older classification.Every other classification did show increases.But the numbers simply make the reality even worse. It's almost certain that half of the white population did not leave Hidalgo County so the 65 empty hospital beds figure looks even worse than the census numbers would show.
