What the hell does "possible abandonment of the US dollar" even mean Phat?

Re: Hey buddy, can you spare a dollar?
The serious illnesses and deaths from Covid-19 are predominately among the elderly who are either no longer working, among the higher paid if working, people with existing health problems, liberals or People of Color.
Those are all categories that today's Conservatives consider liabilities rather than assets and so not just expendable but redundant.

Re: Does Stupidity Go With The Job?
First, it's no where near the mess as popularly reported.
Second, the surge is only the inevitable result of four years of intentional mismanagement and the utter stupidity of the Three Stooges in Austin.
The limit on BP/ICE/HS reporting is really a reasonable position, particularly since those folk have actually been the biggest creator of the problems.
The needs right now are for health care, clothing, communication and legal representation. Instead of having the BP/ICE/HS do medical testing on those who illegally cross what is happening is they are being accumulated and then dumped without prior warning at a local bus station. BP/ICE/HS have refused to do testing for anything, TB, Covid or any of the other endemic threats. They have refused to coordinated with private social services or to only cooperate when the cameras are running.
The issue is that the Three Stooges as well as much of the management at BP/ICE/HS are not willing to treat the situation as an opportunity but rather only as a Law Enforcement issue. Instead of sending medical supplies and testing supplies and support staff they are sending police. Instead of working to set up a cooperative Governmental/NGO operation they are maintaining separate roles.
It's time to tone down the rhetoric and actually look at how to solve problems rather than create them.

So today our idiot criminal governor says that the kids crossing the border are coming into inhumane conditions.
So the answer is send police that will scare the shit out of the kids instead of addressing ways to create humane conditions.
That IS the crisis; it's not the migrants, it's our states response that is the tragedy and crisis.

Re: Does Stupidity Go With The Job?
You are still missing the point Percy.
The reports are still getting published.
The gag order is on what the BP/ICE/HS report and frankly they lie.
The cure is not more reports from BP/ICE/HS.
The cure is more facilities, more resources, more support.

Re: Does Stupidity Go With The Job?
LOL
Investigate away.
The fact is that there are migrants coming across the border legally and illegally but not in numbers that could not have bee expected or planned for or handled.
For example over the last 5 months slightly more than 10,000 "unaccompanied minors" (and anyone 17 or younger is classed that way) that BP has apprehended. That's an average of 2000 a day.
In the meantime hotels and motels all over the valley have had empty rooms that could have been used to help those unemployed because the rooms were empty and to handle the case load.
But as I said, the issue is that for the last four years the goal has been to make the process as inefficient, cruel and painful as possible.
The gag order is totally irrelevant, the needs are well known and have been well known for years.
This is all going exactly as the Republicans wanted and still want.
The problem is not the migrants but the utter stupidity and callous disregard of the current Texas political structure and the past four years of political structure.

Re: Does Stupidity Go With The Job?
Hey, I'm old.
But yes, per month.
Right now there are about 500 migrant families here in Hidalgo County.
The numbers are certainly manageable IF, and it's a really really really BIG HUGE if; the three stooges in Austin sent food and vaccines and clothing and health care workers and contracted with the empty hotels and motels for housing instead of sending police.

Re: Excuses For Abuses
It's kinda worth noting that we already handle many many many many times the illegal migrant quantities daily.
In 2015 Hidalgo County alone handled over a half million northbound truck crossings, over four million passenger vehicles and over two million foot crossings. That was pretty much the norm; we have a constant stream already crossing legally.
The other ports just in Texas handled over three million trucks, over thirty million cars and over fifteen million foot crossings.
Those are just the NORTH bound numbers; people coming from Mexico into the US. And those are just Texas border crossings.
The issues are the same, people cross he border for work, shopping, family and tourism.
It's a paperwork and supplies crisis.
The solution is a procedure to handle the paperwork and supplies.
It really is that simple.

Re: Excuses For Abuses
There's no reason there couldn't be a building on the US side of each crossing where those without the right paperwork could be directed. The buildings should house medical facilities and staff experience in the infectious diseases that are likely to be encountered. It would be our best interest to vaccinate those entering who cannot show prior vaccinations.
What paperwork would be needed would be an agreement from the migrant to obey US laws. Then the migrant could be finger printed and issued an identity card with a photograph.
What this entails are US jobs, jobs that would pay well and provide a service.
Frankly it's a win win. New US jobs are created and a pathway to US citizenship initiated.
Once the individuals are documented and vaccinated and in general treated like humans they can be sent on their way to join family or friends or get jobs or go to school or raise a family; things all folk would like.
Sure, there will also be some bad apples but believe it or not we also already have systems in place to deal with those who break laws as long as they are not rich or politicians.

Re: Excuses For Abuses
Remember, Mexico has agreed to build an effective wall and to enforce it; but along the original boundary/border.
Percy, most of the needed processes are already in place and the only issue holding things up are the fools in Austin and DC.
It would talk some time to fully implement a solution but so far no attempts have been made to do so by either the States or the Federal governments.
While we might want compassion right now there is ZERO chance of getting compassionate responses from either governments until a complete overhaul of the management structure of the BP/HS/and ICE can be completed and the total upper level Texas government is canned.

Phat writes:
Perhaps we need some sort of rule that in order to be allowed to work here, taxes must be collected and social security need be paid by these workers and future citizens.
Think Phat.
Do illegal migrants buy anything at the Slop & Shop?
Do they ride on buses?
Do they rent homes?
Do they buy clothes?
Are their employers required to deduct taxes from what they are paid?
Think Phat.
The reality is that even the illegal migrant farm workers DO & HAVE paid taxes and into Social Security and Unemployment Compensation and Property Tax and road taxes and sales taxes. The difference is that they are denied getting many of the services those taxes pay for.
Stop listening to the Snake Oil Salesmen, Christian Apologists and Right Wing Carny Barkers.

Re: Arizona Election Audit Shows Biden Won by EVEN MORE VOTES
Now all the other counties should be audited.
And il Donaldo says they did find massive number of questionable votes but the facts are being hidden.
If you can't believe il Donaldo who could you believe?
Remember; his support comes from cults that are totally disconnected from reality.

Stop and look at the political/military history of Japan 1928-1941
The parallels between what is happening in the US today and what happened in Japan between the late 1920s and 1941 are striking. The result was a Japanese Fascist Theocracy similar to the current marriage between Fascism and the Christian Cult of Ignorance. It was a very deliberate campaign of destabilization of ANY democratic government with the goal of establishing a military/theocratic dictatorship.
