Testing
For about 20 or so years we had emissions testing here too. It helped get the worst of the old oil burners off the road and forced others to clean up by getting cars tuned etc. We have phased it out now that there are very few older cars left on the road and the new ones are so very much cleaner and stay that way with much less maintenance.
It was not worth the cost of running the testing centers under the new circumstances.
However, I just had a thought. Are we getting by without screening for polluting cars because of rules and testing done in so many other places that keep the on road fleet cleaner for us. Are we sort of being anti-vaxers?

Hot Time in July
http://www.sciencedaily.com/...ases/2015/08/150820152817.htm
The July average temperature across global land and ocean surfaces was 1.46F (0.81C) above the 20th century average. As July is climatologically the warmest month for the year, this was also the all-time highest monthly temperature in the 1880-2015 record, at 61.86F (16.61C), surpassing the previous record set in 1998 by 0.14F (0.08C).

Greenhouse gases
Taq writes:
Are you denying that CO2 is a greenhouse gas?
ICANT writes:
It has been defined as such by the powers that be who depend on GW grants for their livelihood.
And exactly how does your response answer Taq? You are saying that it is only a matter of biased definition and therefor it isn't actually?
Do you know what a "greenhouse" gas would be? Please give your definition of one.
And how does it not endangering public health or welfare make it any less of a greenhouse gas?
You might try to focus a bit.

Greenhouse effect
Why would you have to ask this? If you don't know then you don't know enough to discuss climate science and I think you have been.
Thermodynamics says that if more heat flows into a system than flows out the temperature will rise. Easy and obvious, no?
Carbon dioxide is more transparent to visible light frequencies than it is to infrared frequencies. Simple enough.
So if energy flows in as visible light and is converted to IR more energy will be coming in than leaving.
Visible light striking things is converted to IR.
So what do you have to conclude?

Re: Greenhouse effect
And what is wrong with what I gave you as a definition? As well, which of the above facts to you disagree with?
The foundation is:
1. CO2 is a 'greenhouse' gas -- that is, it tends to trap heat in the form of IR radiation.
2. We humans have been releasing large amounts of CO2.
Those are simple, clear facts. Do you disagree?
And slightly, but only slightly, less simply the amounts of CO2 that we have been freeing are large enough to affect the heat balance of the earth in the direction of warming. This too is a fact. So there is man made global warming. How much precisely you can now argue about with good math.
Edited by NosyNed, : No reason given.

So?
What difference does it make who wrote something? If NoNukes agrees and copies what others have written will that make a difference to you?

Re: An Inconvenient Truth
Because I'm 65, and I know that Medicare isn't free. I've paid into it for 47 years. If suddenly everyone under 65 gets it, it will be free for many of them, and it will cheapen what I get after paying into it all this time.
If your care and concern for future generations didn't tell us just what kind of person you are this sure does.

Texas
Republican politics didn't bring green, untested, solar and wind power to Texas in recent years, to the extent that it failed them last month. But increasingly liberal voters in Texas did. Where did they come from? I'm glad I pretended you asked that.
Do you have the numbers for the loss of power from various sources in Texas?
I think you will find that some wind failed because, unlike other places where it is much colder for much longer, they didn't winterize the wind turbines either. But you may find that the loss from that source was much smaller than the loss from the fossil fuel sources.
You may also find that the largest loss of generating capacity was from the fossils fuel generating facilities (largest by a large multiple over the wind sources).
You might also note the presence of residential (and some commercial eg. SpaceX) solar that kept on supplying power when the grid was buggered.
Let's see your data and then we can discuss the actual source of the problem.
You might also explain El Paso while you are at it.

New Car Companies
Why were all those people 80, 90, 100 years ago interested in starting a new auto manufacturing company, and NO ONE seems to be today?
No one seems interested today? What?
How about Rivian (which might make it), Nicola (which won't), Lordstown (which probably won't), Aptera (which might), Lucid (not clear), Fisker (probably not), Arcimoto (good chance) and Bollinger(risky)?
And then there is Tesla which makes the best $50,000 car you can buy, is making about 1,000,000 cars a year now, crushed the luxury market, and has the highest post purchase satisfaction of any maker. All that in less than 20 years.
No new?

Model Y maintenace !!
That's not true!! I've had my Y for almost a year and had to put air in the tires twice until they seated in. It cost me $3!!!! (of course, that's Canadian dollars so not so much)
Of course, regular yearly service on the Audi was 500 to 1,000 and the gas (being premium and being in the most expensive area for gas in North America) was 20 to 25 cents / km. My electricity cost is about 2 cents per km .

From memory, I think the Antarctic ice is good for about 70 meters (200 feet)
