Where I live is predicted to reach 113 degrees F today, so it will be interesting to see how accurate that prediction is. Yesterday we hit 101 and 103-107 was predicted by different sources. I can google weather underground and it will show me the local weather stations that are regularly updating their readings online.
I have always been interested in my local weather and how that averages out to give me trends in local climate. When I couple those observations with notes on daily observations of insects (adult emergence dates), plants (leafing and blooming dates), and vertebrates (nesting and mating dates) for the past 60 years, a distinct pattern emerges.
This year we have noticed that Western Tiger Swallowtail Butterflies (Papilio rutulus) are the most abundant we have ever seen. The working hypothesis is that the caterpillars pupated and emerged as adults, before the migratory birds that normally feed them to their nestlings arrived in the spring. A similar effect is being observed with plants and their pollinators getting out of synch.
I sure hope we don't lose power and AC this week! Stay cool.

Todays temperature range: 66F to 113F (predicted). I'm at 96.1F on a calibrated lab thermometer at 11:40 AM.
I know there are EvC members who experience +100F days routinely, but they are fairly rare still in the Pacific Northwest and I'm mostly stuck inside during the primary flight hours for my local dragonflies. I can't even work on images in my lab because my new air conditioning unit isn't installed yet.
In 2020 100+ was recorded north of the arctic circle for the first time. Weather records are broken somewhere every day, but this looks like a distinct trend to me. Predictions of the effects of the current climate shift by scientists, like glaciers melting, storm and drought intensity, wildfire seasons and intensities, fresh water supply and many others seem to be consistently under estimated.

Re: HEAT SURVIVAL
When I read Tanypteryx' report I wondered which side of the mountains he's on.
I'm in the Willamette Valley between the Coast Range and the Cascades.
It's 15:30 and 108F.

Re: HEAT SURVIVAL
Besides, it will get hot as f**k come July and August here right around the corner, so no reason to be smug, karma is coming.
Weather karma is a bitch!

The usual suspects are still saying that it is all a hoax.
I would like to use a big magnifying glass on them.

Re: HEAT SURVIVAL
Every time it's above average or below average, they're amazed. I feel like grabbing them by the throat and asking them, "Do you know what average means?"
Their intelligence is too far below average.

It's noon and 104.9F. We thought it was going to be cooler today, but now it looks like we could surpass yesterday.

I was just outside and it is 76F. Crazy! My daughter is near Portland and it's still pretty hot up there. A nice breeze blowing in marine air. last Friday predictions were for high 90s all week.
92 tomorrow and 87 the next day. I can get back to work!
