#BlackLivesMatter was founded in 2013 in response to the acquittal of Trayvon Martin’s murderer. Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation, Inc. is a global organization in the US, UK, and Canada, whose mission is to eradicate white supremacy and build local power to intervene in violence inflicted on Black communities by the state and vigilantes. By combating and countering acts of violence, creating space for Black imagination and innovation, and centering Black joy, we are winning immediate improvements in our lives. We are expansive. We are a collective of liberators who believe in an inclusive and spacious movement. We also believe that in order to win and bring as many people with us along the way, we must move beyond the narrow nationalism that is all too prevalent in Black communities. We must ensure we are building a movement that brings all of us to the front. We affirm the lives of Black queer and trans folks, disabled folks, undocumented folks, folks with records, women, and all Black lives along the gender spectrum. Our network centers on those who have been marginalized within Black liberation movements. We are working for a world where Black lives are no longer systematically targeted for demise. We affirm our humanity, our contributions to this society, and our resilience in the face of deadly oppression. The call for Black lives to matter is a rallying cry for ALL Black lives striving for liberation.(...)TalkAbout Trayvon: A Toolkit for White People Five years ago, a teenage boy went out for a snack but never made it home to his loving family. A grown man took it upon himself to patrol his neighborhood and to shoot dead an unarmed, unassuming boy. Not only did a mother have to bury her young son, but she now watches his killer walk the streets free— free to brag about killing Trayvon, and free to commit more acts of violence. We need to #TalkAboutTrayvon because, five years later, there are still no consequences when adults wave their guns around at Black and Brown kids. Police continue to mistreat, terrorize, and even murder boys and girls of color, and then walk free. We need to #TalkAboutTrayvon, share pictures of his sweet face, and remind each other what we continue to lose when we uphold a system that won’t punish people who kill Black children and adults. We are not only losing wonderful people—we are losing our humanity. White communities are used to consciously and unconsciously maintaining the racist policies and practices that led to Trayvon’s death—and, as white people, we must speak out against those policies and practices. When we remain silent and on the sidelines, we are complicit in maintaining these unjust systems. Our work is to get more white people who support us to take action toward racial justice—and to change the hearts and minds of those white people who are not yet with us. When we #TalkAboutTrayvon, we tell grieving parents that we see them and acknowledge their pain. When we #TalkAboutTrayvon, we tell Black children that we are not afraid of them—we are only afraid they won’t get the bright future they deserve. Why Reparations? Reparations are owed, in forms and manners, to be determined by Black people in the U.S.It’s on us to raise our voices and demand action immediately. If each and every ethnic group or nation/state(such as the Kurds, the Croatians, the American Indians, etc etc) that has been unfairly treated were to demand reparations, the logistics of quantifying such an issue and of holding people accountable would be nearly impossible to sort out. BLM seeks only compensation for Black people. The seeming target? White people. This is exclusivist and could in no fair way ever be resolved. I'm white. But I never felt targeted by BLM. As best I can tell, BLM has many white supporters. If you feel targeted, maybe that's your guilty conscience.Fundamentalism - the anti-American, anti-Christian branch of American Christianity

Actually Phat, it was not all white people that were targeted but all of the violent white people that were and have been for many decades targeting black people. It was the white cops and white justice system and the white voters and supporters of the system that has created jails filled with black folk and more black folk arrested and more black folk shot and more black kids being failed in schools and more black folk being stopped and questioned and the whole WHITE establishment that not just allowed all that but refused to honestly address the root causes or mitigate the effects of those root causes. And Phat, THAT MEANS YOU!My Website: My Website

So in other words, you label me guilty because I never addressed the issues. My ONLY issue that I have brought up is reparations, and I maintain that it is an unenforceable issue for the reasons that I gave.
I am not a racist. I am interested only in issues of fairness (particularly pertaining to Phat). I do, however, have some friends whom I consider prejudiced towards right-wing answers regarding what they perceive as left-wing power groups. Perhaps they have influenced my thinking on these matters."A lie can travel half way around the world while the truth is putting on its shoes." ~Mark Twain " *** “…far from science having buried God, not only do the results of science point towards his existence, but the scientific enterprise itself is validated by his existence.”- Dr.John Lennox “The whole war between the atheist and the theist comes down to this: the atheist believes a 'what' created the universe; the theist believes a 'who' created the universe.” “The most difficult subjects can be explained to the most slow-witted man if he has not formed any idea of them already; but the simplest thing cannot be made clear to the most intelligent man if he is firmly persuaded that he knows already, without a shadow of a doubt, what is laid before him.” — Leo Tolstoy, The Kingdom of God is Within You

If you feel targeted, maybe that's your guilty conscience. I'm not going to allow a liberal group to dictate what I owe and to whom I owe it to. That's my line in the sand."A lie can travel half way around the world while the truth is putting on its shoes." ~Mark Twain " *** “…far from science having buried God, not only do the results of science point towards his existence, but the scientific enterprise itself is validated by his existence.”- Dr.John Lennox “The whole war between the atheist and the theist comes down to this: the atheist believes a 'what' created the universe; the theist believes a 'who' created the universe.” “The most difficult subjects can be explained to the most slow-witted man if he has not formed any idea of them already; but the simplest thing cannot be made clear to the most intelligent man if he is firmly persuaded that he knows already, without a shadow of a doubt, what is laid before him.” — Leo Tolstoy, The Kingdom of God is Within You

Do you know what the word reparations even means Phat.
Are you a Christian? Do you know the Christian rite of confession and absolution?
Phat writes: I am not a racist. I am interested only in issues of fairness (particularly pertaining to Phat). And there we have it. Not only have you never addressed the issue you continually seem to support the very acts and root causes that created the situation. It's NOT all about you Phat and YOU seem to find it acceptable that others suffer as long as it doesn't bother your lifestyle. This is reality Phat; the white cops and white justice system and the white voters and supporters of the system that has created jails filled with black folk and more black folk arrested and more black folk shot and more black kids being failed in schools and more black folk being stopped and questioned and the whole WHITE establishment that not just allowed all that but refused to honestly address the root causes or mitigate the effects of those root causes and just like you is still simply denying that the situation even exists. Reparation means fixing the laws that create disparity, minimizing the gap between rich and poor, get the folk in jail for silly shit like the stupid war on drugs out of jail, changing the hiring practices from seniority to merit based, making hiring colorblind, moving away from mega schools to smaller neighborhood based schools, getting the grandparents and aunts and uncles directly involved in the daily education, changing police training away from stop and arrest to aid and support... Reparation means fixing the shit.My Website: My Website

I'm not going to allow a liberal group to dictate what I owe and to whom I owe it to. Why not? You have let conservative groups dictate, on and off, how much you owe whom for the past 50 years. Instead of reparations you were told to pay deep tax cuts and bailouts to Exxon, Goldman Sachs and Lockheed Martin. I didn't hear any complaints then. What's the problem? And what you gonna do if congress allows a $1000 tax deduction for black filers? You going to move to canada? Edited by AZPaul3, : No reason given.Edited by AZPaul3, : No reason given. He will let his hair grow and then grasp the chains and pull the whole structure down.
Once the shelves are empty and the airplanes just sitting on the tarmac with truckers simply siphoning the diesel fuel and hoping to have enough to get through the winter and most stores burned and gutted things will quiet down and he will have shown them that they can't make Phat pay reparations. Phat writes: The bottom line is that humans need God. They need a source of love, wisdom, and truth higher than what we collectively conceive and believe internally. Then how are atheists, agnostics and "nothing in particular" getting by? Atheists and agnostics rank near the top in income when included with religious groups (How income varies among U.S. religious groups | Pew Research Center). While 4% of Americans are atheists, only .1% of people in prison are atheists, so atheists are getting locked up much less than your average American and are therefore more moral than your average American. Most atheists think family very important as a source of meaning (10 facts about atheists | Pew Research Center). Atheists are more knowledgable about religion than your average religious person. --Percy

Phat writes: This whole BLM and "woke" nonsense is a liberal's wet dream...not anything sane or productive. Your racist side is coming out again.
Exactly. All Matter. All have the same value. There should never be a scapegoat group of outliers anymore. It is their victimization, some of it lethal, at the hands of law enforcement and the legal system that requires reminding that black lives matter. There is no need to remind people that white lives matter because they're already receiving privileged treatment from law enforcement and the legal system. --Percy

Phat writes: My problem with BLM is that they take it upon themselves to rectify moral issues by targeting an entire group--white people. So why don't I trust "them"? Uh...because you're racist? Basically, you're against Black Lives Matter because they're protesting their treatment by law enforcement, the legal system, and white people in general. Statistics make clear that their mistreatment is very real. Why should they not object? And why, once they object, do you vilify them for objecting to this unfairness?
If each and every ethnic group or nation/state(such as the Kurds, the Croatians, the American Indians, etc etc) that has been unfairly treated were to demand reparations, the logistics of quantifying such an issue and of holding people accountable would be nearly impossible to sort out. BLM seeks only compensation for Black people. The seeming target? White people. This is exclusivist and could in no fair way ever be resolved. If your sole objection to BLM were because of the reparations aspect then you would have a valid point, but you mix in too many racist-based objections. --Percy
