What follows is a concise history, an outline actually, of the American civil war. This is not the civil war of the early 1860’s. It is the cvil war of the mid 2020’s
1). August, 2024: The Republican Party nominates, with only token opposition, Donald J. Trump as their nominee for the 2024 US presidential election. He runs against Joe Biden for that office.
2). November 5, 2024: Joe Biden wins a second term as President of the United States. Biden wins in a landslide with 62% of the popular vote and 57% of the electoral vote. The Republicans also lose many down ballot elections and lose control of several state legislatures.
3). December, 2024: Republicans in seven red state legislatures, including some in which they lost the election but still hold power until the official transition of power occurs, use previously past legislation to invalidate their states election and both hold onto power and reassign their electors to Trump. Trump then is the elected President with a small margin of electoral votes.
4). January, 2025: Outraged voters organize protests and marches against actions by the red state legislatures. Members of those legislatures go on social media to request that their supporters organize counter protests and marches and subtly suggest those counter protesters come armed. Many of the protestors, hearing this, also come armed. They also order local police, sheriffs departments, and state police to control the situation. Many members of these departments have divided loyalties with respect to these events.
5). January 6, 2025: In Gatlinburg, Tennessee, an old car driving down the street adjacent to the one where protestors and counter protestors, along with law enforcement personnel, are gathered backfires. For a full minute everyone freezes. Then shots ring out. Then more shots ring out. Soon, there is a hail of bullets, some shot into the air in an attempt to quell the situation, some shot into the crowds. People all over the country (the world, actually) are watching these events on broadcast news and on social media. Shots begin to be fired at other protest/counter-protest events. Dozens of riots ensue across the country. Businesses are looted, government buildings and stores are burned. A national emergency is declared and the National Guard is activated to reestablish control, but many of their members join the battling parties, bringing armored combat vehicles into the fray.
6). January 6, 2025: America's second civil has begun and continues with no end in sight.

When I saw the title of this thread, I immediately wondered whether it was about the 1860s war or the 2020s war. On opening the topic, I noticed that you had that covered.
This could be an interesting discussion.
At present, we can only guess what will happen in 2024. After seeing the Newsom recall vote in CA, your guess could be a reasonable approximation.

Excuse me spectre but are these all shadows of what might be or what will be?

Eschew obfuscation. Habituate elucidation.

Revised Emphasis on the major problem of the times
AIG writes:

You left out the Chapter that will make this war an actual reality. The Financial Reset, Correction or Crash--call it what you like.
1)August 2024-Trump runs on the platform that claims that Democrats are irresponsible tax and spend delusionists. The markets have by now already corrected their bullish run fueled by the enormous expansion of the money supply. Inflation (or deflation, analysts speak of both) has decimated the economy and the US is realizing that the bill MUST be paid. For the Republicans, it's a no-brainer. Keep spending on the military and let the Bill get paid through inflation.. For the Democrats, it is all about spreading democracy and grassroots values at whatever cost it takes. Both sides want to get elected and neither understands the basic truth that the Federal Reserve placed the economy in checkmate. The Fed can't raise interest rates to fight inflation without a US default. The interest rates are by this time firmly negative and there is talk of the government mandating limits on what people can spend without being taxed through negative rates. The US is in trouble and were it not for the fact that the world at large was in no better shape, our goose would be cooked.
2) November 5, 2024-The Dems win and begin discussions on how to help the people in the midst of this growing financial crisis. The wealthy begin to flee the country so as to keep their wealth. The tax base is hurting and there is no end in sight to the default and bankruptcy of the once-great nation.
The rest of the scenario is much as AIG predicts. The financial crisis only adds fuel to an already hot fire.

Good Debt
Tax cuts/subsidies for the rich
Mideastern wars
Bad Debt
Tax cuts/subsidies for the poor/middle class
Infrastructure improvement
Education
Is this what you are saying?

Re: Revised Emphasis on the major problem of the times
No. I am not defining some debt as good. ALL Debt is toxic at the levels that it is fast approaching.
You don't actually think there is any way to pay back 27 trillion dollars, do you?
If we hope to help the poor and rebuild our infrastructure, we need to do it with the money that we have. Going into debt for the future...at the levels that the US now has...will prove to be our demise. There is no rational argument for either allowing the debt to remain at 27 trillion (which it won't) or of adding anything more to it. This well could lead to a civil war as our political ideologies are polarized nowadays.

You only have to pay the interest. The loan sharks want to keep you on the hook. Worst case scenario for them, you pay off the principal and stop paying them.

Could you not turn threads into discussions of your favorite topic? You're still immersed in crazy thinking. Could we please confine it to a single thread, maybe Bit Coin: 2 bit bubble?

An Alternate Alternate History
Seems an unlikely chain of events. Biden's determination at keeping a steady aim on his foot are likely to continue, thereby staking the Democrats to an early lead at losing both the House and Senate in 2022 and the White House in 2024.
While the Democrats self-destruct the Republicans are making a determined effort at making it possible for them to overturn elections. They are busy replacing the procedures governing elections and the officials who oversee them in a way that benefits themselves.
Republicans are far more motivated than Democrats to take charge of the electoral machinery. Democrats working on elections believe the result of their efforts will be clean and fair elections. Republicans believe the result will be that their guys win. Of course Republicans are more motivated.
