Re: Cuomo?
That makes sense. Closer to home.
After his near resurrection at CPAC I was sinisterly conspiring a Trump connection.

Re: Cuomo?
I kissed the bride on the cheek completely in compliance with the norms that I had just been living for the previous two weeks. Was I appropriate or not?
That's not up to me or to you. Only the person you so brutally assaulted ... er pecked on the cheek ... can answer that.

Re: Does Stupidity Go With The Job?
Good lord, what I’m hearing. People want to flood the border areas with humanitarian aid. They want us to take these people and give them baths and meals and medical care. Tent cities with running water and sewage systems, legal aid and education stations. Heaven forbid a sponsored taco night with a mariachi band.
Who’s gonna pay for it all?
Wait.
This is America. We have billions to throw around especially if you’re a well-connected business so paying doesn’t create any burden. That’s what FEMA is for.
Ok, so why shouldn’t we do these things?
Oh, yah. That’s it. They’re brown people.
This IS America. Trump and Co. may be gone but the hate in the society remains.
Right now it’s emanating from the border patrol and its entrenched bureaucracy.

Re: Does Stupidity Go With The Job?
Lies, cover-up or not this gag order does not look good.
I have no doubt the present BP bureaucracy is less than forthcoming on a whole slew of issues but those are issues the media should uncover. Not being able to talk to the agents makes that a bit problematic.
The larger issue is transparency even when some inscrutable sources try to make a political football.
If kids are kept inside for days on end sleeping on the floor then we should know about it. And instead of responding with gag orders Biden and Co should be responding with cruelty charges against the agents and their superiors and their superiors and etc., like that.

Re: Excuses For Abuses
but the pragmatic side of me grimaces at the thought of how to follow through with it.
Don't. Use the J&J one jab vaccine.
I agree we need to establish more consistent, logical, politically doable immigration policies, whatever that is. But we don't have to be detestable ogres to our guests waiting for us to pull our heads out of our. We have only known about this problem on the southern border for two generations. Almost 50 years now. A major infrastructure should have been in place. So now, we have to play catch up to the humanitarian situation at many times the cost.
But, we are Americans. We can do this. We can be humane and hospitable before we ship them back to hell.

Re: Excuses For Abuses
I loved the food in Laredo. I remember that huge flag. A lot of the people I was working with would leave about 3pm, cross the border to go home for lunch and siesta, and return about 5pm to finish out the day at, well, major bank IT rooms, there wasn't really a finish to the day. We had to look at the schedule and see if we could kinda fake one.
I also remember the horn-blasting symphony of the backed-up trucks on the 4-lanes of solid 18-wheelers stretching miles up the highway all pointing south. Back-ups used to last for hours.
Honk, honkhonkhonk...honk, honkhonk, honkhonk ... honk, honkhonk ... for hours. A true cultural delight.
You are right, of course, we have the infrastructure for mass crossings. But not enough dedicated to the issue of controlled immigration humanely conducted.
The supplies would follow after the processing of the paperwork, and we could get on with caring for these people and all those kids.
So who has the paperwork?

Re: How Many Is Too Maany?
I am in favor of humanitarian aid as a moral duty, but I also know that there are limits.
As for numbers, I'll let others decide that until my coronation.
Until then we give humanitarian aid to however many for however long.
We're a rich and a smart country. We can do this without much of a strain. Make the immigration centers humane, safe. We can throw a million bureaucrats into the "Welcome Centers" and get these people processed, by whatever standards, and get them going on their new life or give them the boot.
Its a bit like inviting people to stay at your house.
It's more like making room for new family in the house. You may have to build some additions to your societal floor plan ... and enjoy just a whole lot of really good new food.
Our people should have some say as to what that number is.
You do know what representative democracy means, yes?
I think we’re on the same page here Phat. Treat them well while they're here and let the people decide how many.
Except the kids. Kids get an automatic pass.

(I spent a few minutes seeking confirmation of the information in this graph but came up dry - perhaps someone knows a source that would confirm or deny this.)
Cannot find any original source but this does seem to be a popular chart.

Mi AF1 es su AF1
Can someone explain to me why anyone should care if Biden and son went on a plane trip?
I think this is supposed to be politically dangerous dirt that will implode the Biden administration leaving the Democrats to wallow in abject shame at the shear audacity of the revelation. It won't.
I think the republicans and their Reich-wing apologists like marc9000 are out to destroy the office of the presidency regardless of what that does to the state of our society.
What used to be the loyal opposition is no more. In republicans, loyalty has given way to stark hatred and the driving need to foster national failure on a grand world-wide scale. By causing the nation's failure the republicans hope to point to democrats as the cause.
Why do republicans so hate this nation? Why does marc9000 so hate this nation?

PaulK to marc9000
So it’s really not looking like Hunter Biden “flew on air force 2 with his dad hundreds of times to foreign countries” (Message 161). The list doesn’t even include hundreds of flights to foreign countries (more like 60, including trips from one foreign country to another, and assuming all such trips were flights). And we can certainly rule out 400 trips on Air Force 2.
So marc9000 lied to us with all this Hunter bull crap.
marc 9000 to AZPaul3
The above is my evidence that you and all your helpers here hate the U.S. far more than I do. Any counter evidence? Or just rage?
You're an American-hating liar. My only reaction to you is disgust.

Re: Gang gallop
I'll leave y'all alone for awhile now, so you can continue with your un-opposed love fests.
Come on, marc9000, haven’t you got another lie you can disgust us with? Something about Hunter grabbing Pelosi by the pussy with video that the mainstream media won’t show because we live in a vast liberal conspiracy of Hunter denialism?
Just like the typical creationist always has another stupidity to fart out I am certain your Reich-wing anti-American handlers have more shit for you to throw at us in trying to destabilize our society. They keep a personnel file on you at GlavSet, don’t they, or are they not anti-American enough for you either?

marc9000:
All I'd like to do, is get to a point where we can agree to disagree.
nwr:
I would be okay with that. But it would help if you didn't always come across as angry and on the attack.
I think I’ll take a different tack than nwr. I’m going to gather some more rage. In fact I’m going to get incensed ... well, as much as I can muster these days.
I will not agree to disagree. Not with marc9000. Not on this.
You see, I have a problem. I have lots and lots of loads of problems with life, the universe and everything and that includes problems with political motivations.
One such problem I am having is understanding what would motivate a person to spread, no matter how laid-back and pleasantly, half-truths so politically slanted with what appears to be malicious intent knowing they’re going to be called out. The lies are bad enough but the twisting of data and use of emotion-laden words to manufacture corruption from nothing, in this case, looks like political payback.
The alt-Reich Trumpsters appear to be pissed that the Trump brood got caught with their hands and both feet, neck deep in every manner of contractor’s and vendor’s cookie jars red handed. Authorities will take years to figure out all the backroom deals (especially covid stuff in New York). Corruption on a level not seen since Harding and Coolidge combined.
So that’s what we seem to have here. A mouthpiece from the Trumpette-iverse spouting trash, spreading fake news, manufacturing corruption from innuendo and vapor, trying to destroy an American President because he isn’t Trump. How wonderfully patriotic. God Bless America.
No, I will not agree to disagree involving such subterfuge and the sabotage of our social fabric at so basic a level. Why? Because history has shown us what comes next with 'these people'. The reich-wing must be stopped at every turn. Especially in a venue such as EvC where reality must be prized.

Eschew obfuscation. Habituate elucidation.
