Re: Afhghanistan and Global Perspective
My gripes historically have focused on the dwindling favoritism towards people like myself.
Why do you need favoritism? What's wrong with the idea that everyone should be treated fairly and decently?
And the only reason I liked Trump diplomacy in any way was that he thought American interests were getting taken advantage of by foreign interests who benefited from us more than we did from them.
That was your mistake. The real problem is that corporate interests have been benefiting at the cost of ordinary citizens (like you). And Trump favored corporate interests.

Re: Afhghanistan and Global Perspective
It would be as if you were suddenly slapped with $100,000.00 in debt and told that you must pay it back.
That's pretty much what happens whenever Republicans are elected. They give tax cuts to the very rich, and the rest of us will eventually have to pay down the resulting debt.
I'm simply in favor of not selling our own citizens down the river while the world passes us by.
Again, that is pretty much what Republicans do.

Re: Gang gallop ?
Well, marc9000, I usually don't reply to you because I don't see much point in piling on. And I assum that (piling on) is what you mean by "gang gallop". I'm usually satisfied with the replies that others make.
Two people responding yes, but how many more reading, and gathering up rage for future posts?
I'm not gathering up any rage. Maybe I am laughing at you. But you aren't worth getting angry.
All I'd like to do, is get to a point where we can agree to disagree.
I would be okay with that. But it would help if you didn't always come across as angry and on the attack.

One such problem I am having is understanding what would motivate a person to spread, no matter how laid-back and pleasantly, half-truths so politically slanted with what appears to be malicious intent knowing they’re going to be called out. The lies are bad enough but the twisting of data and use of emotion-laden words to manufacture corruption from nothing, in this case, looks like political payback.
The odd think about this, is that they claim to be Christians. Yet what they are doing is thoroughly unchristian. At best, they are fake Christians.

Re: Trolling for Truth
George Will has always been more moderate towards conservatism than Bill Maher has been moderate towards liberalism. Do we have to pay attention to Bill Maher?
George Will does policy analysis. Bill Maher does comedy.
What point is there in such a comparison?

Re: The Biden Presidency Thus Far
I'm reasonably happy with Biden.
He has exceeded my expectations. Perhaps my expectations were too low. I see him as doing better than the press coverage indicates.
Most importantly, he is trying to move us away from Reaganomics, and toward an America where everybody counts rather than one that only works for the wealthy.

It is still a fact that people watch Maher for the laughs, not for the policy comments. And nobody watches George Will for the laughs.

Re: Why Is Biden Selling SPR Reserves To China?
SPR oil is being sold to China! This is the last straw. Biden is inept at best, clueless at worst.
Phat buys and sells silver, based on his own economic prognostications.
Now Biden is doing something similar with oil, except that Biden likely relies on a better quality of economic advice.
China is a player in the global market. When oil is put into the market, some of it will end up in China, because that's how global markets work.
Why are you seeing something sinister in this?

Re: More mainstream news media cover-up
For 3 straight evenings (4 now) ABC World News Tonight has referred to Trumps former lawyer Micheal Cohen as Trump's "fixer". This is a brilliant term, used as one of many building blocks the news media came up with as a way to discredit him, to make him look so clumsy that he has to have some appointed person to, legally or illegally, patch up his blunders. You'd think these supposed journalists would have enough sense to drop that term 2 years after his presidency is over.
I'm not sure why you are so obsessed with "fixer". It's not that bad a term.
I have the impression that Cohen first used that term. And it was with respect to the period before Trump was president, so why would you expect it to be discarded after he left office?

Re: Count all taxes not just income tax
Why should one party in a two party system control the amount of tax that ALL of the people must pay?
Back in 2003, I was paying taxes that supported a war in Iraq that I considered immoral and unjust. But I paid the taxes and didn't whine about it, because that's the way that Democracy works.
Phat in Message 214 in another thread:
Why should the guy passed out under the park bench have an equal share with the hardworking father or mother who holds down 3 jobs?
Phat in Message 336 (this thread):
Im one of those who is entering my retirement years with very little. (Under $20,000.00)
With that little to support your retirement, you are likely to end up as the guy passed out under the park bench. Your conservative friends are going to say "Why should we be taxed to support that guy under the bench." Your conservative Christian friends will likely be saying "Thank God that I am not like that guy under the bench."

Re: Count all taxes not just income tax
You would get more support from fellow church members, if it were a liberal Christian church.
The Democrats do try to pass legislation that would be more helpful to you, but it is often blocked or reversed by Republicans. You vote against your own best interests.
Your libertarianism is not going to help you.
Liberals generally understand that we are all in this together. So we need social support systems. I vote for politicians who understand this. Sometimes their policies will increase my own taxes. But that's okay if they are doing it to better support society as a whole.
Just to be clear, I am not a Democrat. I'm an independent. I tend toward being socially liberal and fiscally conservative. I used to think that both parties were similar. But that has changed, particularly with Gingrich. The Republicans today don't seem to care about good policy. They have followed the Gingrich idea of smearing their opponent rather than proposing positivie policies.
And yes, Reaganomics has been a disaster. You don't like Biden, but his economic policies have already begun to improve conditions for people like you.

Yes. Many times YES.
I have always believed in Jesus and have resisted "throwing Him away" as jar used to coach me to do and which many here at EvC easily did do.
I haven't been telling you to "throw away Jesus". Believe what you want about that. But at least try to be more skeptical of what people tell you about finance, government policy, politics and all that.
Note that jar still calls himself a Christian. Maybe you are reading too much into his "throw Jesus away". Maybe he is just saying that you should learn to be more self-reliant and less gullible.

Yes, I think she is.
If Biden dies before the nomination is set, Kamala, the heir apparent, appears to be the only thing the dems have going and my tea leaves say that is a loss.
You are probably right about that.
It is my my impression that Kamala has been doing a lot behind the scenes. But she does not get much press coverage for that.
