So, what else do governments have to throw besides money? The point is the mandate which that government has been given. If you and the rest of EvC vote in a spend-happy government then I have no say as to where my tax dollars go and no say on whether taxes will in fact increase for me. Granted you would have no say on whether a conservative government would award tax breaks to the wealthy. It seems that Jerome Powell (who retracted his previous statement that inflation was transitory) and Jaanet Yellin, the Treasury Secretary agree on far too many things. Let it also be known that the Fed will NOT bother fighting inflation. They will instead continue fighting to preserve the US Dollar.(even at inflated values) The progressives have no problem keeping our currency intact regardless of its absolute value. Lately, I have observed that many of the proponents of precious metals investing are already wealthy. They want to get out of the dollar. The progressives, by contrast, want to keep it and ride out the inflation...in the hopes that the wealthy will be forced to share the inflation tax that will result."A lie can travel half way around the world while the truth is putting on its shoes." ~Mark Twain " *** “…far from science having buried God, not only do the results of science point towards his existence, but the scientific enterprise itself is validated by his existence.”- Dr.John Lennox “The whole war between the atheist and the theist comes down to this: the atheist believes a 'what' created the universe; the theist believes a 'who' created the universe.” “The most difficult subjects can be explained to the most slow-witted man if he has not formed any idea of them already; but the simplest thing cannot be made clear to the most intelligent man if he is firmly persuaded that he knows already, without a shadow of a doubt, what is laid before him.” — Leo Tolstoy, The Kingdom of God is Within You

jar writes: Ok so far we agree. His actions, though immature as you say were no doubt self-defense.
I find it interesting that I, as a gun carrying US citizen I (and quite a few of the gun owners with whom I associate) think that the verdict in the Rittenhouse trial was correct. he fact that there even was a Rittenhouse trial though is an example of the racism in the US today and of the continuing White Privilege. What an odd statement. Are you suggesting there should have been no trial? I will agree that whites get defended more than blacks do, but the solution is not to punish whites. Had Rittenhouse been black it's very unlikely he would have lived through the night and not been executed by the police right then and there. I cautiously agree with some reservations.. "very unlikely" is an overstatement. You make it seem as if most police are racist and that most blacks get shot. It may well be ok to label overall justice as racist, but to label it as an example of white privilege is unfair to white people. Punishing white people as a point of justice is no better than reparations. Let each case be colorblind and stand on the facts.
Rittenhouse behaved like the kid whose brain has never developed yet and who has never been taught morality or how to even think. He is an unfortunate product of the abysmal state of US education. What he did was simply stupid and an indication of his complete and total immaturity. As is true of most young blacks as well. Its not that there shouldnt have been a trial. Its that there should be more trials."A lie can travel half way around the world while the truth is putting on its shoes." ~Mark Twain " *** “…far from science having buried God, not only do the results of science point towards his existence, but the scientific enterprise itself is validated by his existence.”- Dr.John Lennox “A God without wrath brought men without sin into a Kingdom without judgment through the ministrations of a Christ without a Cross.” “The most difficult subjects can be explained to the most slow-witted man if he has not formed any idea of them already; but the simplest thing cannot be made clear to the most intelligent man if he is firmly persuaded that he knows already, without a shadow of a doubt, what is laid before him.” — Leo Tolstoy, The Kingdom of God is Within You

Did it ever occur to you that prison population demographics are a direct result of education and upbringing? Yes, it is true that whites have had more opportunities. Yes, it is true that many black fathers are in prison due to racism and unfairness. But you seem to suggest that were all things otherwise equal in regards to justice the prison population would magically adjust to demographics. It's not that simple. An entire multi-generation of blacks has been affected. It will take years to correct. And judging by Kyle Rittenhouse, many whites are none too bright either. Think of what would happen to him if there had not been a trial. His whole life may well have been ruined. Thank God we DO have trials.

ringo writes: First of all, I expect the people to be more united as to what type of government they vote in. If 53 people make a decision which 47 disagree with and don't like, that's a split that causes more pain than healing. What do you expect governments to do besides spend money? The people need to really and honestly look at the big picture. And for one thing, the money needs to be genuine and not "created" through an IOU. Fiat money is the bane of the FED."A lie can travel half way around the world while the truth is putting on its shoes." ~Mark Twain " *** “…far from science having buried God, not only do the results of science point towards his existence, but the scientific enterprise itself is validated by his existence.”- Dr.John Lennox “A God without wrath brought men without sin into a Kingdom without judgment through the ministrations of a Christ without a Cross.” “The most difficult subjects can be explained to the most slow-witted man if he has not formed any idea of them already; but the simplest thing cannot be made clear to the most intelligent man if he is firmly persuaded that he knows already, without a shadow of a doubt, what is laid before him.” — Leo Tolstoy, The Kingdom of God is Within You

ringo writes: The last time I checked (or recall from my catchphrase dictionary) the "government" was of, by, and for the people. We have a clear rift...a division here in the United States. The very rich pay over 40% of the taxes and are behind lobbying efforts to channel the money their way. The people-at-large are represented by roughly 53% of the popular vote (vs 47% conservatives) and thus the whole idea of what "the government" should do is contentious. Public opinion and belief is all over the map. I didn't ask what you expect the people to do. I asked you what you expect the government to do. Just last night I ws up at the corner gas station having a conversation with Bruno, a young twenty-something student who works there. As we were discussing whether or not the official government news and sources can be trusted, Can The Inflation Crisis In The U.S. Be Stopped? as well as Covid-19 and real-life experiences in that realm. A man in line, a black man who worked for HUD at the local level and whose wife was a nurse, mentioned how she said that the hospitals were jammed full again (at least the one she worked at) and that everyone was sick and *not* that many were dying. (?WTF?) The entire line got into the conversation at that point...everyone had many family members who had in fact died. Some folks trust Dr.Fauci as a source of information while others claim that he does not know what he is talking about. Of course, I stayed quiet and let everyone else talk. I find that listening benefits the conversations more than talking. Getting back to your question as to what one expects "government" to do, the problems inherent in today's society are poorly understood and no consensus on them is ever easily found. To complicate matters, the pressures on US citizens are global pressures and is one reason why racist and selfish nationalist are up in arms. From the transcript in the video I linked above concerning inflation:
quote: ringo writes: Throw it in the right places that generate a return rather than simply trying to support every uneducated citizen who has no clue how to be productive, lift themselves out of poverty, and get educated. Thus, low-cost education is one place to throw it. Recreating a media and/or information source that people will actually trust is another place to invest. Globalism is ugly and competitive, but there seem to be few alternatives to getting along. The populists would rather burn through the US fossil fuel reserves and pretend like it's 1960 again...while the main concern of mine is that the future consensus will be humanistic and non-religious. We need Jesus, but more importantly, we need to learn to be empathetic rather than selfish. How can you be understood if you won't tell us what alternatives you propose? So, what else do you expect governments to do besides throw money? It's not an easy solution--what the government *should* do. High on my priority list would be saving social security and taking care of us elders. Other people have other priorities. Educating their kids, affordable housing, and preventing social unrest are the main things now, it seems. As for global warming, China should pay at least as big a share to mitigate it as the US does, but they show no inclination to do so."A lie can travel half way around the world while the truth is putting on its shoes." ~Mark Twain " *** “…far from science having buried God, not only do the results of science point towards his existence, but the scientific enterprise itself is validated by his existence.”- Dr.John Lennox “A God without wrath brought men without sin into a Kingdom without judgment through the ministrations of a Christ without a Cross.” “The most difficult subjects can be explained to the most slow-witted man if he has not formed any idea of them already; but the simplest thing cannot be made clear to the most intelligent man if he is firmly persuaded that he knows already, without a shadow of a doubt, what is laid before him.” — Leo Tolstoy, The Kingdom of God is Within You

,And how do you expect anybody to be productive, lift themselves out of poverty and get educated unless you support them first? How can you teach a man to fish without feeding him and his family while he's in fishing school? It takes far more fhan just money. It would as if you had a drug addicted son. Would you throw all of your spare. Money towards.helping him if he historically relapsed or would you yourself risk being homeless time after time when you saw the pattern? I always liked John Wayne movies, though he was a tad too conservative for me. I never stray left of the middle, though.

Today, when whites are on the brink of losing their privilege, some want to take back supremacy by taking back rights from blacks, etc. That's a different thing from believing that blacks, etc. were not capable of handling rights. I dont want to take back anything from anyone. I would advise them to feel likewise. The slate is wiped clean. Jar mentions that it is a Christian duty
.. I disagree. It is not my duty to pay my countries "debts" from times before my own. The mortgage analogy is not applicable. As far back in family history as i see we had no llegal obligations...morally or otherwise. You cant sock a national bill to individuals and make them pay except by 2/3 vote. And its not our debt. If so one must legallydocument it and have the bill pass both houses. And im not arguing against helping anyone except the justificatiin and method used. Make a legal bill. Make it every voters duty. See if it will pass. Until then we the people individually have our own bills. What are you implying? Its not a racial issue. Its an economic and legal one. Or it should be. Tbe race card is overused and excessive. Im not out to exploit anyone nor be exploited. We all have one thing in common. We all are Americans.

Im moving beyond just blessing me. I realize tbe value a d benefit to blessing others. What i am against is power politics and mandatory helping of others determined to be in special need by the government. The individual or subgroup should never have a government with any agenda.

Your whole plan to throw religion away and push it out of public education and speech would be agreeable to me if God did NOT exist. Until I become convinced of that, we will continue to disagree.

Nobody's "forcing" you to give up your beliefs. They're not even asking you to give up your beliefs. They're asking you to pay your debts. I owe no debts. No mortgage was ever signed. The Fed may someday lay claim to all of our debts, but we signed nothing and they are the ones who printed all the extra money. If the government can determine and agree to debts that it owes, that's not my concern. I pay my taxes. I won't pay my great grandfather's back taxes after he passed 100 years ago."A lie can travel half way around the world while the truth is putting on its shoes." ~Mark Twain " *** “…far from science having buried God, not only do the results of science point towards his existence, but the scientific enterprise itself is validated by his existence.”- Dr.John Lennox “A God without wrath brought men without sin into a Kingdom without judgment through the ministrations of a Christ without a Cross.” “The most difficult subjects can be explained to the most slow-witted man if he has not formed any idea of them already; but the simplest thing cannot be made clear to the most intelligent man if he is firmly persuaded that he knows already, without a shadow of a doubt, what is laid before him.” — Leo Tolstoy, The Kingdom of God is Within You

So I saw this article and thought again about what you said in this post.
I don't like the implications but I find it hard to honestly deny them. I feel like the one who is always stepping on people's toes and having to continually apologize and humble myself. I perceive the "woke" people as overreacting in the opposite way. For years, entitlement was my life. Finally, when I saw it as wrong, the once downtrodden people took it up and slap me in the face with it. If I can lay it down, why must they pick it up? (To accentuate a Republican Pun, I am the elephant in the room.) I fight being made to feel inferior, guilty, and responsible. I just want the same rights everyone else has. you might argue that they want the rights and privileges that I took for granted all my life. Two wrongs dont make a right, however. If I lay down my aura of privilege, NOBODY else should be allowed to pick it up. Why am I racist?"A lie can travel half way around the world while the truth is putting on its shoes." ~Mark Twain " *** “…far from science having buried God, not only do the results of science point towards his existence, but the scientific enterprise itself is validated by his existence.”- Dr.John Lennox “A God without wrath brought men without sin into a Kingdom without judgment through the ministrations of a Christ without a Cross.” “The most difficult subjects can be explained to the most slow-witted man if he has not formed any idea of them already; but the simplest thing cannot be made clear to the most intelligent man if he is firmly persuaded that he knows already, without a shadow of a doubt, what is laid before him.” — Leo Tolstoy, The Kingdom of God is Within You
