In Memoriam: RAZD

Thank you all!!

jeez, I didn't mean to make this thread come to a halt.

One project that I thought might be worthwhile is to peruse some of the EvC Archives and link everyone up with some of RAZD's best posts and replies over the years. I've just not had time to do it yet and perhaps you might remember some of them better than I would. Does that sound useful or honorable for your brother? Edited by Phat, : No reason given.

Well then I'll add a little more...When I first posted here it was RAZD who welcomed me. But you knew that without having to check, because RAZD welcomed everybody. He was always so friendly to new posters, making them feel at ease, pointing them to threads that might interest them and, most of all, providing help with the dBCodes.So many forums are a hostile environment to newbs. Some people will seize any opportunity to bully new members. Even without that sort of thing, a place like EvC could be especially intimidating given the expertise and erudition of many of the members but it's never felt that way. That is in large part due to RAZD's example. He was an extraordinarily generous guy and I will miss that.

RAZD and myself were going through cancer treatments at the same time. He was such an encouragement. He was a good good man and he will be greatly missed here, and no doubt even more so by his family and friends.

xong, it broke my heart to find out about your brother! He was the single most extraordinary intellect I have encountered on the web and definitely in the top handful encountered in my personal life. Even after a life spent as a biologist he broadened my understanding of many different related fields far beyond what I could have achieved on my own.Years ago he invited me to share some of my photography with him privately and I did. Over the years he pointed out details and offered insights that I had missed.His courage facing his cancer was an inspiration to me facing my own.I grieve his loss and celebrate the triumph of his life. My thoughts are with you!I miss him!

Xomgsmith, RAZ was a treasure without equal. The pain of your loss is shared by many of us.I first encountered him during the W administration on a Netscape message board and was deeply impressed with both his knowledge and his decency. I always looked for his posts, knowing he'd bring some pertinent info (and worthwhile perspective) to any conversation. I was just reading RAZD's epic work on pulling all the dating evidence together in one place and marvelling at his workrate whilst comparing it to dad's ignorant one sentence dismissals and thinking that those two summarise the whole problem between science and religion. Very sad to read this. Learned a lot from RAZD, such an amount of info he gathered for us and he was a very sound lad. He was a big part of what made EVC for me.
