I suppose Africans need to get through the "reeducation" camp before they are worthy of holding an opinion. I don't agree that "re-education" is white-centric. If anything, all opinions matter but the participants need to learn to express their literacy honestly and not militantly. The world will either learn to get along or it won't. Again, I respect that you have a passion for challenging the status quo, but you can catch more flies with honey than with vinegar. Just saying. ...this war could backfire on Putin. As an autocrat, I don't think he really cares. He feels that his nation has had its back against the wall for years. He believes in the ascendency of Russia and the decline of the West as inevitable. Perhaps he even has a realistic longterm view of the effects of global warming and seeks the age old Russian dream of a warm water port. His moves are brutal, uncivilized yet calculated. This war wont end quickly or easily. I just hope that it doesn't get out of hand and become a World War. I would honestly look out for China retaking Taiwan while this mess is occurring. The major powers are jockeying for position on a slowly dying planet."A lie can travel half way around the world while the truth is putting on its shoes." ~Mark Twain " *** “…far from science having buried God, not only do the results of science point towards his existence, but the scientific enterprise itself is validated by his existence.”- Dr.John Lennox “A God without wrath brought men without sin into a Kingdom without judgment through the ministrations of a Christ without a Cross.” “The most difficult subjects can be explained to the most slow-witted man if he has not formed any idea of them already; but the simplest thing cannot be made clear to the most intelligent man if he is firmly persuaded that he knows already, without a shadow of a doubt, what is laid before him.” — Leo Tolstoy, The Kingdom of God is Within You

Putin attempted, 15 or so years ago, to join the EU.
I dont see any truth to some idea that he feels his nation will ascend while he wants "the west" dead. Russia is not your typical white nation, and the disagreements - with "the west" - are epic.

What do you know about the big "African giants" - South Africa and Nigeria?

Any higher skilled people of the military kind around here?
What is going on with the Russian army? A 40km exposed road trip at near walking speed. Really? And the nuclear sabre rattling from Putin is ... well ... disturbing. Is Putin about to fall or will he incinerate the world first? Also, I don't do social media but friends that do are saying the incessant inflammatory memes against vaxx and Biden and race baiting and the splitting of America, have just about stopped. I guess the Ruskies operatives have enough problems with their own collapsing society to continue beating up on us. Edited by AZPaul3, : No reason given.Eschew obfuscation. Habituate elucidation. |

This interview with Fiona Hill seems relevant and perhaps disturbing.

I've followed her career. She's good. Unfortunately she has the reputation of being right. I've been studying her analysis all day. Putin is in a bad place right now. As I've said before, in the style of the old Czars, Putin will push until he meets a sword he doesn't want to fight.
And with a nuke up his sleeve that might go too far. But, again, what is happening with the Russian advance on Kiev? Strange strategy to have your heavy armored troops slowly crawl along the road fully open for everyone to see. To be effective they will need to spread out into forward battle formation. One long line of tanks, trucks and APCs taking baby steps in single file is not going to cut it. Is this some strange new battle strategy or is this massive incompetence? The Russians will simply obliterate Kiev and everything in it.
Putin has had it whatever happens next, he'll be gone in a year but it's too late. One fucking man. Just one. That's all it takes one psychopathic nutter. Not sure we can say that they aren't. Nothing obviously public but I gotta think somewhere the various services are cyber meddling in Russia's sandbox.
The Russians will simply obliterate Kiev and everything in it. Right now their army seems stuck in the mud in an especially open and vulnerable position. As far as I can tell from the news, that Russian column, on one road, spread out over kilometers, is the major threat to Kiev and they ain't moved in days. When they open their formation to battle fronts then the end is near. That will take time, like several hours considering the formation they are in now, and will be quite noticeable. I'm no expert (except, of course, I am) but I've never seen a more exposed and incompetent battle plan from a world class army even in the fog of war. What is going on there? How can their generals not know they are setting their army up against a determined local population. Even if they succeed in taking the city the cost in Russian lives is going to be well above what a competent command structure would have produced. I do not understand. Are they trying to create Russian casualties? Edited by AZPaul3, : No reason given.Eschew obfuscation. Habituate elucidation.

They don't need to enter Kiev, they can just bomb it with artillery and from the air. The longer it takes the more damage Putin is forced to create.

We need to watch closely what the senior military folk in the Russian Army actually do as opposed to the rhetoric.
Will they obey stupid and even illegal orders from the Civilian Russian political structure? How about the grunts? Will they agree to just get killed for no reason other than that they have been told to go get killed? And what part will the Russian Military play internally? My Website: My Website |

I agree that Fiona Hill has an informed and valuable opinion. For this reason, her bleak assessment of what Putin is likely to do depresses me. Some of what Putin says and believes has a grain of truth behind his megalomaniacal worldview.
Perhaps he is actually thinking of Russia's survival (as a world power and empire) and fears that global warming will hurt Russia more than most places due to its location and, as he states it, "always being pushed back into a corner". He has a valid point in that if the US can arbitrarily attack Iraq and Afghanistan, why is Russia any less entitled? Ukraine has valuable resources (never mind that he ignores its biggest resource which is its people) and places to grow lots of food. He absolutely refuses the chance that Ukraine will try and join NATO. The world is united on the issue of Ukraine's plight and right to exist but is divided regarding the overbearing influence of the United States. I have mentioned to you before that I see the dollars days of global financial dominance as numbered, and I see this war as a widening of that rift. Russia wants to stay with BRIC regarding a mutual global future. This war is depressing because it shows me that the US is not in charge of everything, though we do have most of Europe on our side. My biggest fear is that we will suffer massive inflation and will unwittingly reelect a populist to restore our own glory days. We don't have enough money to fix the world, and we are in the early stages of global contenders for the throne of which nation calls the shots. I fear that Russia will pave the way for China. Just today in the news, Taiwan is mentioned as another focus of struggle."A lie can travel half way around the world while the truth is putting on its shoes." ~Mark Twain " *** “…far from science having buried God, not only do the results of science point towards his existence, but the scientific enterprise itself is validated by his existence.”- Dr.John Lennox “A God without wrath brought men without sin into a Kingdom without judgment through the ministrations of a Christ without a Cross.” “The most difficult subjects can be explained to the most slow-witted man if he has not formed any idea of them already; but the simplest thing cannot be made clear to the most intelligent man if he is firmly persuaded that he knows already, without a shadow of a doubt, what is laid before him.” — Leo Tolstoy, The Kingdom of God is Within You

My biggest fear is that we will suffer massive inflation Not gonna happen. The US has many tools to combat inflation. We have used none yet. The primary reason we have not used any is that the current inflation is being caused by corporations' price gouging and reaping huge profits. The economy at large is not causing inflation. Unfettered, unregulated capitalism is. What really scares me is looking at the reaction of people I know fairly well.
One poured ought all of his Smirnoff vodka to spite the Russians. Another fears that the US will face run away inflation due to the Ukrainian invasion. Much of Putin's core support is the exact same fools as support Trump and the GoP; ignorant deplorable and willfully divorced from reality or evidence based decision making. My Website: My Website

One poured ought all of his Smirnoff vodka to spite the Russians. I have seen several news reports on our local news about that, including states passing laws against liquor stores selling Russian vodka. Now that may be the best knee jerk reaction I've seen in a while. They already paid for it, Russian exporters already got their money, so how the fuck does that hurt Russia?
