Re: Stirring The Stew
One reality exposed in the video is the fact that the human brain cannot process a Black Swan event. Until it happens.
Because that is what it is by definition. So you are going to plan your life because some shyster produced a video about something that probably won't happen and if it does there is nothing you can do about it.

Re: Wannabe Conservative Thinkers
Remember jars argument favoring content over source? The content is sound. You are attempting to discredit the source without having heard the argument.
And no, I'm not that gullible. But I think you are wrong about the Fed having more tools to fight inflation. We have backed ourselves into our own financial corner.

Re: Wannabe Conservative Thinkers
You can tell a stupid argument from an idiot. This guy is a NewsMax financial contributor. His business is selling gold. I am not going to listen to propaganda. By virtue of what a Black Swan is by definition, he can not tell me how to prepare for it.
He is not an economist. He is a washed up actor that learned to sell gold.
It is perfectly fine to dismiss and belittle people that are full of shit. I will listen to the experts instead of the charlatans trying to make a buck off of me.
And no, I'm not that gullible. But I think you are wrong about the Fed having more tools to fight inflation.
What you think is meaningless. The reality is the Fed does.
We have backed ourselves into our own financial corner.
No. Lack of regulation and lack of taxation of the very wealthy have made things very challenging.
Damn. You are heavily invested in gold arent you. Oh well.

Again, stop saying utterly stupid things.
Not just I but many many people here have told you that we already screwed the pooch. We are out of time and it is already too late to avoid very very very painful payments.
It is stupid people like you that are the problem. Your wilful ignorance means that the cost to repay the debt (and it will get repaid) is going to be far higher than if you had been listening to what people here have been trying to teach you over the last 18 years.
Eighteen years Phat.
For 18 years you have been refusing to acknowledge reality or evidence or facts and instead swallowed and continue to swallow the utter bullshit being fed to you.
You and folk like you are the reason the pain required in paying the bill just keeps getting increasingly damaging.
And Putin is NOT trying to grab any bread basket. That's just more of the utter crap you seem to love.
What should concern you is that the US has decided to let the US breadbasket wither and die.

The one good thing about gold that I have seen, the only really good thing, is that it makes a great reflective surface for Infrared Light when building mirrors, such as the James Webb Space Telescope. It has also been used on satellites in many other places as well.
So I guess it's not such a horribly bad thing after all. Mowgli's story of the King's Ankus getting thrown back in the old cobra's pit may need a revision. Send it up in space!

Re: Gold
I am tempted to start a topic on why investing in gold is so utterly stupid, but not worth it.
I have a doomsday prepper friend who has invested in gold. I asked how he is going to access his gold when the shit hits the fan. He said he can have it shipped to him whenever he wants. So when the world goes to shit he is trusting UPS is going to get his gold to him. I guess he has a bit somewhere on his property too. So my next question was what is he going to do with the gold when the world goes to shit. He truly thinks he will have a valuable commodity. When the world goes to shit gold is going to be worthless, except to idiots like him.

I would suggest that Phat have a chat with King Midas. He could neither eat nor drink since everything turned to gold. I'm deliberately leaving his daughter out of this.

Re: Gold
It seems like the only place you see gold being useful when financial system collapse is in apocalypse movies.
When financial systems collapse it seems more likely that people will barter for useful commodities. Money or gold is only a way to keep track of goods and services as they flow through a society. They are just placeholders, not resources.

Re: Gold
If it is post-apocalypse and I have food and some dude comes up with gold to trade for the food I would laugh at him. What is the gold good for? The only reason I can see to have gold in a situation like that is that there will still be gold bugs that would trade useful things for gold.

Gold is an interesting element. It is the most malleable metal and also the best non-superconducting electrical conductor. It sucks as a monetary standard.

Yeah, those are great uses for it, but those just take a smidge.
