Think Phat. Actually LOOK at your own numbers.
The Gold Certificates are an insignificant part of the Federal Holdings , less even than the Inflation Compensation amount. The reality is that like any commodity, the Fed can think it's worth some arbitrary amount but if it gets used it MUST be at the current international market price. The Fed cannot determine the real value of the gold it holds. The accepted value of gold at any instant is the spot price. Phat, basics. Learn the basics. Gold is just another commodity like pork bellies and oil and lead and tungsten and steel and coal and corn and rice and ... the list is near endless. My Website: My Website

Plus the International Gold Reserves are valued at about $43.00 an ounce.
It's a perfect example of just how arbitrary gold values are, the arbitrary valuation is totally unrelated to reality or any intrinsic worth. My Website: My Website

Over the years I've been somewhat of an accumulator. Some things I've collected and jess kinda keep in the safe are knives (commercial, historical and custom), firearms and ammunition, mechanical watches, classic camping gear, field axes, hatchets and other hand tools. Many of them have been well used and cared for over the decades, particularly back when I did lots of camping and hiking in about every imaginable environment.
I wonder whether a vast hoard of gold or a whole bunch of tools that can be used without electricity, the internet or cell phone towers would be the better trade goods? The neat thing is that I've also been able to use and enjoy the accumulations over countless hours and days and decades and continue to do so. Went to the range just the other day. Why, everyone know that the way you move all that gold is in Mini Coopers and a Tour-bus.

Them that's got shall have Them that's not shall lose So the Bible said and it still is news Mama may have, Papa may have If I had the loaf of bread, and it was the silly reset/depression Phat is trying to market, be assured I would not trade it for precious metals. Maybe ammunition or clean water or good clothing or new shoes but gold, silver, palladium, platinum would garner nary a chuckle. My Website: My Website

Phat writes: The fact that you guys think the dollar will remain stable only because the rest of the world is also holding Fiat Currencies is ignorant. Once again you simply show either your total inability to understand anything anyone here has told you or your utter dishonesty. None of us has made such an utterly stupid assertion. My Website: My Website

Very early in 1969 while designing CableTv systems and based out of LA I ordered a martini with olives at one of the trendier Santa Monica Blvd restaurants. When it arrived there was, appropriately enough, an oil slick on the surface since they had stuffed the olives with anchovies. Since it was in the short interim between the first and second Santa Barabara oil spills it made sense.
Sometime later we were all having lunch at the Hamburger Haven (fantastic "Chilli Size", two patties on English muffins smothered in chilli and chopped onions) and Al ordered a martini. When the topless waitress brought our drinks (I ordered a Manhattan that day) her breast brushed his glass as she leaned across the table. Without even a hesitation Al remarked "I ordered an olive in my martini." Her response, equally rapid and relaxed was "Sorry but we were out of olives."My Website: My Website

Phat writes: Even if I had an urge to gamble, I would have to go retrieve them and sell them for less than what I bought them for. Yup! That's gold in a nutshell. It's utterly worthless to you. You can't use it and can only bet that it will be worth at least as much as you paid for it when you do have to sell it. Phat, that is gambling big time. As others have shown you, commodities including gold do not fare as well as things that actually produce value like investing in stocks. Yet even there, there is no assurance that the stocks will increase in value. AbE: Phat, not all that long ago the US actually had safe investments for the average person. They were called "Utilities". The hundreds or thousands of utility companies across the US were "Regulated Monopolies". Each utilities had a specific region that they covered and their rate structure was regulated and based on an allowed return on investment. The utility company was assured to make a profit based on that utilities investment in maintenance and infrastructure. The utility raised funds by selling stock shares and issuing bonds that also had specific yields. The return to investors was not as high as some stocks BUT it was assured and guaranteed. Utilities were a safe way for the middle and lower income level folk to set aside some money without incurring the risks involved in either stocks or commodity trading. Many, many years ago I suggested that Phat should read Mark Twain's Yankee in King Arthur's Court to get an understanding of currency and economy.
In the story Hank is explaining currency and wages to Arthur with just about the same success as we have had explaining it to Phat. Didn't help.My Website: My Website

Why has such a large percentage of the US (and possibly other nations but I'm concerned with the US and possibly France right now) decided to not learn how to think, not learn how to discriminate, not learn how to research, not learn the very basics of their economy, their politics, their theology, their reality, their morality, their history, their Constitution?

If this is the opinion, think of what a court system with even more Republican nominated and approved Federal Judgeships will mean. Remember that it is not just the SCOTUS but also 13 Circuit Courts and 94 US District Courts that are Article III judges serving for life unless removed. There are also the Non-Article III Federal Judgeships that general serve for a period of time but cover areas such as the Magistrate Courts, Bankruptcy, Federal Claims Courts, Tax Courts and Territorial Courts.
