No comment. I'll just drop this here to rub it in.

The Northwest took away our summer. Bad move, we are used to it, they are not. Enjoy the low temperatures. Not the recent ones but the usual summer 100s. You have less than 180 years to revel in such a moderate balmy breeze, maybe.Eschew obfuscation. Habituate elucidation.

Here in Phoenix it is hot as usual. We haven't had an unusually hot or cool summer.
What we have had is an apparent collapse of the arthropod population here in the Valley of The Sun. I used to spray my apartment every 6 months or so. It was easy to keep on that schedule because the roaches and ants kept showing up as a reminder. That has stopped. I haven't sprayed in over 3 years and neither have the neighbors. It's become so bad that you can't find an apartment in the Phoenix area with the usual expected roach problem and my favorite park has maybe one ant mound in areas where a few years ago there used to be several. I don't think it's just the Valley. You're a bug guy. You seeing this collapse elsewhere? Edited by AZPaul3, : No reason given.Eschew obfuscation. Habituate elucidation.

The universe knows we recently released an IPCC report admitting we’re losing and to expect more bad news. Now prescient science decides to slap us in the face with prediction come true just for emphasis.
Since June 2021 Siberia has been on fire. Worse than the California hits these last few years. Worse than the Amazon these last few years. Siberian wildfires double greenhouse gas emission record: This is how they look from space | Space So big is the burn, just since June, the carbon released into the global environment has exceeded that of our 6th biggest annual polluter, Germany. In 3 months we have added an entire Germany’s worth of annual pollution to our air. Twice the greenhouse gas emissions of any burn on record. IPCC cautions such burns will get worse. The nation of Burning Siberia, which just popped up out of nowhere, is now exceeding Germany for 6th biggest annual polluter worsening humanity's present problems on this planet considerably. And ... that wasn't us burning stuff. I think we just got the finger from Mother Nature. Edited by AZPaul3, : No reason given.Eschew obfuscation. Habituate elucidation. |

Thank you, Percy. Well said.
I just want to point out that one of the most dangerous aspects of global climate change is the many devastating regional wars that will cause more suffering and death than the environment itself. We're dealing with human's here. We won't do anything to forestall disaster but we will gear up so when we lose our resources we can come get yours. This study shows that the big oil oligarchs are still pushing fake studies and false claims about climate change.
https://www.nature.com/articles/s41598-021-01714-4.pdf The study breaks up anti-climate claims into 5 major categories and follows who is spreading the mis-information and who funded the papers involved. So, there is a conspiracy led by big oil to destroy climate change mitigation efforts that is pervasive and ongoing. Surprise. Since perspective is nice and she does such a good job I'll let Ms. Watson explain.

NOAA studies find that methane is exploding onto our environmental problems with concentrations now at 1900 ppb compared to 700 ppb before the industrial revolution.
quote: Methane Pollution Just Reached New Heights, And The Sources May Not Be What You Think : ScienceAlert Even with the deadly issues with CO2 well known and documented for decades we have not made any headway in curbing our poisonous ways. CO2 levels will continue to rise and will not reach 2050 targets. Now the issue of methane, known for decades but seen as less tragic than CO2 is making its presence felt big time. There are no global mitigation efforts, targets, plans, to lessen methane release. So not only are we fighting a battle with CO2, which we are losing since we haven't even started any mitigation efforts, but now we have methane belching out from our activities at record rates and accelerating which, we can assume, we will also pay lip service to but, ultimately, do nothing to stem. Have pity on your great-grandchildren and their great-grandchildren. Their lives will be brutal.Eschew obfuscation. Habituate elucidation. |

The new IPCC Sixth Assessment Report, April 2022, https://www.ipcc.ch/report/ar6/wg3/, is being seen as a positive view of our issues with climate change. They have not retracted any of the gloom and doom that befalls us if we don’t act but they have cheered on a detailed set of mitigation strategies and efforts that will save us. It is a very positive and upbeat document showing there is a plan, there is a way out of the burning forest.
What we need do is to do all those things we should have been doing for the last 70 years and do it all, plus more, in the next 30 years. Mitigate it all in the next 30 years. Drop CO2 and other levels enough to limit temperature increases to 1.5°C and do it all in the next 30 years. Rah! Rah! Go Humans! So, if we put our present efforts that haven’t worked so far and a few other future efforts on steroids and achieve an unprecedented level of international cooperation willing to endure some economic disruptions then we can avoid this coming tipping point. If we miss this, then Earth is toast. Texas Toast, with a burnt on Jesus.Stop Tzar Vladimir the Condemned!

Have you seen the Washington announcement about opening limited tracks of public lands for drilling?
https://www.nbcnews.com/...-drilling-federal-lands-rcna24646 We're supposed to be doing the fucking opposite! We have the tech to move off more carbon fuels and here we go mine and burn more. Joe Biden. Democrats. Americans. We were supposed to reverse Trump and at least try to save the planet. We were supposed to end carbon production in 30 years not light new fires that will continue to burn well past then; well past the coming tipping point. We are fucked! We are bigger fucked than we knew. This, our best hope for some actual climate change intellect in the government, just spit in our face and struck up another field of gas flares. Fucking disgusting! I cry.Stop Tzar Vladimir the Condemned!

I’m afraid Gandalf, gods and aliens cannot help us. This is one of those “You made your bed. Now sleep in it” things. Personal responsibility. With no Gandalf, gods or aliens, Mother Nature is smiling warmly as she says goodbye to humanity. We're fucked.

The Two Drivers of Massive Insect Population Die-Off Have Finally Been Identified : ScienceAlert
That title says it all. The bugs that keep our ecosystems going and are vital to feed the world are dying off. Intensive agriculture and climate change are the drivers meaning humans are the cause.
Among the problems we've caused are the clearing of massive swaths of their natural habitat, introduction of toxic chemicals into their environments, and rising temperatures, all causing widescale declines or changes in species abundance. We found that in high intensity agriculture that has also seen substantial warming, abundance and richness are reduced by 49% and 27% relative to primary vegetation where there has been little warming. pic.twitter.com/yusvGpdtdf — Charlie Outhwaite (@CharlieLouO) April 20, 2022 In areas with still natural habitats the decline is significant at 7%. In areas of intensive agriculture away from the natural habitats the declines are up to a staggering 63%. Some bugs may follow us into extinction but that is a very prolific phylum of life and they will adapt. But probably not before we die out first.
With around 5.5 million species, insects make up around half of all known living things on Earth. This is a massive chunk of all the existing life we know of in the Universe, and we don't yet fully understand to what extent we've messed it up. I think we've mentioned this before but just to cry wolf ... Wolf! Wolf! We are killing ourselves. Stop the wolf! Edited by AZPaul3, : No reason given.Stop Tzar Vladimir the Condemned! |

The other day I found myself sitting on a park bench down at the harbour ... Yes, I can imagine you frozen in fear your heart going pitted-patter and your mind stuck in prayer begging god anything, anything, if only he would keep the ocean from rising up and drowning you. I'm sure this was a major concern of yours in your apocryphal tale. You don't take science seriously so I'm supposing you feel the same about the science of climate change. What kind of conspiracy do you attach to that? Satan floating around heavy breathing on all the test thermometers to fool the scientists?Stop Tzar Vladimir the Condemned!

... it's possible a downwards-moving tectonic plate could be contributing to Tuvalu's problems, rather than rising sea levels. It's possible Eleanor Roosevelt flew around the White House but the experts dismiss this as a nothing probability. Yes, the Tuvalu's are sinking but it is not seamount settling but ocean rise. All the evidence and all the experts say climate change. But you don't believe in evidence and fact. You only believe in lie. And did you think we didn't already hear of Tuvalu years ago and already know the facts? You so boldly lie? You got more lies you want to try to spread?
If the oceans are indeed rising, they will be rising at every point of every coastline on the planet ... Not surprised this is the extent of your critical thinking abilities. This is bogus and the science knows it. They've measured. They measure constantly ... aaalllll over this world, 24 x 7 x 365. That's what NOAA and Woods Hole and dozens of others do all day. Care to guess what lie you just tried to tell that they refute? For a catholic you sure lie a lot. Why? Is that part of the catechism?Stop Tzar Vladimir the Condemned!
