Well, I never saw anything like that in church. I think I would have remembered that. No, they would "annoint" the person with a dab of olive oil on the forehead. I think it was mostly for healing but it may have also been used as a blessing for people going out to the mission field or to pastor a new church. The cynic in me suggests that there's more money in olive oil selling it by the ounce than by the gallon.

My grandson and I have talked about starting an eyedrops business. $5-$10 per fluid ounce equals $1000+ for a gallon of water with minute traces of other cheap ingredients. The one ounce bottles probably cost the eyedrop manufacturers 10 times more than the eyedrops.

Which makes me wonder. In their deification of Trump, how long before evangelicals put Trump's name on their churches. Isn't that supposed to be part of the progression of the Mark of the Beast?

Actually the next passage from the Book of Common Prayer Rite of Baptism covers the oil for anointing.
Consecration of the Chrism The Bishop may then consecrate oil of Chrism, placing a hand on the vessel of oil, and saying Eternal Father, whose blessed Son was anointed by the Holy Spirit to be the Savior and servant of all, we pray you to consecrate this oil, that those who are sealed with it may share in the royal priesthood of Jesus Christ; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, for ever and ever. I went to the doctor's complaining of an itching inner ear (I know, only 40 years left to live, get over it). She said to try olive oil. It didn't work so she next recommended vinegar. I thought, fuck it, I'll do the full salad dressing with mustard and bit of honey. Didn't work. Hydrocortisone killed it dead. Science.
