Re: What if Eleanor Roosevelt ...
How positive are we that we can take out ALL of the Russian Boomers before responding on land?

Re: What if Eleanor Roosevelt ...
Exactly.
If the Russians decide to use any nuclear weapons the only possible response we could make that is not suicidal is to respond only with conventional weapons.
And even that might well be suicidal.

We can all read the NATO Charter and see that it is intentionally vague.
We all know that there is a whole spectrum of possible responses by NATO, individual Nations and by Russia.
We all should know that there is a change towards right wing autocratic governments in the EU, most notably in France.
But not one of us actually knows what any of the many players will do.

The Ukraine is not part of NATO.
Treaties are one of the three sources of laws of the land. The US does have treaties with NATO and so a responsibility to NATO member nations.
The Ukraine is not part of NATO.
There might be a moral issue that we should help a nation like the Ukraine but there is also a higher level responsibility which is to promote the welfare of the United States of America.
To send troops or piloted air craft to Ukraine would require a direct confrontation with Russian forces. The issue is that no one posting in this thread can make a reasoned evaluation of the risk and threat such behavior on our part might make.
What happens to Ukraine and Ukrainians has a limited impact on the US and US Citizens. It could lead to China invading Taiwan but even in that case our risk is limited to known (and perhaps undisclosed) treaties between Taiwan and the US.
Finally, it is important to remember that the record of the United States honoring treaty obligations is pitiful.

The Times is carrying the same story but noting that they have not been able to verify all the details.
But the NYT does not have a reputation for posting things when they feel the story might be false.
The Times article only states TWO generals were killed and the fate of fifty officers is unknown.
Edited by jar, : No reason given.

Going Postal
MAD is still a very likely scenario and Russia as well as all other Nations should be able to see that.
Have there been ANY example other that the one instance that could explain a limited nuclear possibility?

a consideration
There is one notable difference that is on the horizon but so far untested.
Ukraine can attack Russian supply lines and infrastructure and only Russia is involved.
A Russian attack on Ukraine's supply line would be an attack on a NATO nation and Article 5 is still applicable.
Russia needs to consider just how seriously the NATO members take Article 5 and so far the evidence indicates that the do take Article 5 seriously.
Russia can threaten to use nukes BUT unlike the US in 1945 Russia is not the only nation with a stockpile of nuclear weapons.
Either action by Russia, using nukes anywhere OR attacking Ukrainian supply lines in any NATO nations would definitely result in lots of nations Going Postal.

Re: "Don't get cocky, kid."
I don't think there is much confidence, particularly at the level that can actually make decisions or do something.
There's rhetoric and marketing and influencing and posturing and speculating things but I'm pretty sure them what actually are in a position to do or decide are the ones that are not marketing and influencing and posturing and speculating.

There you go saying really stupid stuff again.
There is no one to ask to help except other humans.
There is no evidence that anyone other than humans have ever helped.
And if you had honestly ever read the Bible you would have noticed that it says that humans have to be the ones who actually do the tasks.
You still try to count on the Jeeves you worship.

Re: Limited Nukes?
Fortunately there are conventional munitions these days that rival nukes and hopefully any response would be non-nuclear but massive and significant.

Re: Limited Nukes?
I did not mention where the non-nuclear response might come. Hopefully it would be along the whole NATO front.

Re: Follow The Money
As usual it is simply another example of Phat's utter inability to fact check anything.
Joe and Jill Biden have a Net Worth of about $9 million dollars mostly based on the value to two homes in this inflated market and his federal pension.
Hardly the net worth of even a half-assed mafiosi.
Phat is simply willfully ignorant and dishonest.
