Re: Cool. Something Sorta Good.
I know. I was joking. There are several plausible events that could and would wipe out modern civilization as we know it.
  • Yellowstone or other major volcanic eruptions such as Mt. Ranier
  • Asteroid
  • Nuclear War (as little as 5 warheads would do the trick)
Civilization won't be wiped out by the events themselves but by the resulting human reaction to the event. If we don't reach out and help each other now, we certainly wont once resources are drastically altered.

Humans cant get along now. How would we get along then after such an event?

The issue is are we ready? Doom is inevitable. Death and Taxes are inevitable, but we usually give them a rest when we can.

    Doom! Doom! We're all Doomed!

    Give it a rest.
Doom can never rest until the prophesies are fulfilled. Until the food fails, the wars win and the last human expires. What good is rest when jungle and hungry hunters are all around you?
Even from above there is impending doom for humanity. Big honking space rocks the size of Montana that would scramble the insides of this planet like an egg. Laser blasts from gamma-ray bursts that incinerate half the planet instantly, leaving the other half to slowly smoulder. Doom of the fieriest kind.
The doom of the coal-fired furnace, the gas-fired plant, the gas guzzler SUV idling stuck in traffic. The hunters stalk the jungle eating relentlessly at the very eco-fabric that sustains us. Doom awaits us at every turn.
The tipping points have been reached; the nest irrevocably poisoned.
    Have I mentioned we’re doomed?

Off on a road trip to Utah
The wife and I are heading out tomorrow on a road trip to the Provo area of Utah to visit here brother who has just been diagnosed with lung cancer. I'm hoping to get a chance to shoot photos and also collect some dragonfly eggs to rear out over the winter.

Sorry to hear that mate - I hope they've caught it early enough to be able to treat it. Fingers crossed for you and your wife and family.

Could there be any greater conceit, than for someone to believe that the universe has to be simple enough for them to be able to understand it ?
