Ken Starr, 76
Ken Starr headed the Whitewater investigation of the Clintons which expanded into an investigation of an inappropriate sexual relationship with an intern. Ironically the Whitewater investigation turned up nothing prosecutable of the Clintons (though others were found guilty of criminal conduct), but Bill Clinton was impeached over the Monica Lewinsky affair. Also ironically, Starr was dismissed from Baylor Law School for the mishandling of sexual assault allegations.
Ken Starr, Independent Counsel in Clinton Investigation, Dies at 76 - The New York Times
In my own opinion Starr was a zealous straight-arrow straight-shooter who occasionally chose the wrong targets and then doggedly pursued them for way too long. There will be sexual affairs in all walks of life, and virtually everyone lies when caught. But the dogged pursuit side of this maybe goes along with the job, as witness that John Durham's investigation of the origins of the FBI's Russia investigation is in its third year with still virtually nothing worth mentioning to show for it, and the Republican Congress and then Trump pursued Hillary over her emails for like forever and indeed are still chanting, "Lock her up."

You are too generous to Ken Starr.
Was there some hanky panky related to WhiteWater -- yes, it seems so, but not enough for a federal case. The investigation quickly became "Get Clinton". The fascist tendencies of the GOP were already beginning to show.

Re: Ken Starr, 76
He was not a straight-arrow, straight-shooter. He covered up sexual assaults for chrissakes. He was a partisan hack and did everything he could to make sure the people he approved of and fit into his socioeconomic norms were protected and those that did not were kept in their place. In other words, rich, white christian conservative men deserved and needed to be protected. Everyone else was unwashed rabble.
My only sorrow is that he did not suffer more.

Re: Ken Starr, 76
I was ready to argue with you a bit until I saw where Starr defended Jeffrey Epstein.
The only thing I will say is that it seems that Liberals are much slower to forgive and forget than Conservatives.
Of course, I defended Ravi until the evidence showed that he was as much of a scoundrel as you always claimed.
Likely the same with Starr.

Re: Ken Starr, 76
I don't really understand why he defended Epstein. That's as much of a career risk as defending OJ Simpson.

That is just so true. Thank goodness we no longer hear claims about a trumped up FBI Russian investigation or about a fake Steele dossier or about a stolen 2020 election or about fake news or about Hillary's emails. It's all been forgotten and forgiven.
Likely the same with Starr.
Here's an editorial that views him sort of the same way I do: Ken Starr’s tragic misjudgment lives on in our politics. Relevant excerpts:
quote:
He is famous for his obsessive investigation of one case of sexual misconduct — but not for the allegations he failed to pursue with the rigor they deserved.
...
What started as a specific brief sprawled for years and began to look like an obsession.
...
I wish he had expressed similar profound sorrow for his damn-the-torpedoes crusade against Clinton and his destruction of Lewinsky’s life or his see-no-evil blindness about Trump. Or both. And if this is indeed the “Age of Impeachment,” no one did more to make it so than Kenneth Starr.

Eric Jackson, WGBH jazz host
he was not well-known enough to even have his own entry in wikipedia, but when I moved out here from Michigan, the Boston PBS FM radio station, WGBH, had a jazz program. the soothing voice of Eric in the Evening was a treasure many a night. He'd always open his show with "Peace", the Horace Silver tune performed by Tommy Flanagan:

i accidently made this a reply to a post by Percy, instead of a general reply.
i don't know how to fix that. sorry Percy.

Louise Fletcher - 88
She won an Oscar for her performance in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. Although I remember her best for her portrayal of Kai Winn in Star Trek Deep Space Nine.
