Re: $355 million
I also wouldn't be surprised if Trump demands his lawyers to break the law on his behalf.
Yep, and he's already burned through the attorneys who will do that voluntarily.

I was wondering...
In a country with more guns than people, and with so many idiots on both sides of the political aisle, how is it possible that Donald Trump is still alive? Mind you, I am not advocating his assassination, I am simply wondering how long it will take for someone to have had enough of his dangerous rhetoric and do something drastic.

We understand. It is not the American way of presidential politics to propose something like an opponent just pull a Jimmy Hoffa and become part of a bridge abutment somewhere. Radical un-American thoughts. Besides, the security guys are very good at their jobs.

Yes.
Also, the American left has been without a violent fringe element for years. Kooks we got; bloodthirsty terrorists, not so much.
We have plenty of political violence in the U.S., almost entirely on the right.

Was Hinckley a hardcore left-wing political terrorist? Are you really reaching that far for your rightist stance?

Re: I was wondering...
Just to fill in any holes in people's memories, John Hinckley Jr. attempted an assassination of president Ronald Reagan because he believed it would impress Jodie Foster with whom he was obsessed. He was under a psychiatrist's care while he stalked her at Yale and when he wrote to Foster on the eve of the assassination attempt:
quote:
Over the past seven months I've left you dozens of poems, letters and love messages in the faint hope that you could develop an interest in me. Although we talked on the phone a couple of times I never had the nerve to simply approach you and introduce myself. ... The reason I'm going ahead with this attempt now is because I cannot wait any longer to impress you.
  —John Hinckley Jr.
Hinckley was found not guilty by reason of insanity and was under institutional care for nearly four decades.
A request to the originators of subtopics like this: Threads about Trump already by the very necessity of recounting what Trump has said and done have a high nonsense level. There's no need for people to add their own nonsense or to wonder about things that can be so easily looked up

One could argue that the violent BLM protests could be placed on the doorstep of US liberals. I don't think it is as simple as that, but I think it should still be something that US liberals acknowledge and strive to reduce.
As a counterpoint, the close election between Gore and Bush in 2000 had way more potential of being the product of a rigged election, but there weren't any Democrats participating in a violent protest at the US Capitol, or anywhere. Once the runway ran out for Gore he shook Bush's hand and supported the legitimacy of his election win (through clenched teeth). That was the end of it.

I have always wondered what Gore's inner thoughts were less than a year later on Sept. 11?
