Long long away and far far ago; in one of my earlier lives, back when professional Fire Departments were a Big City phenomena, I was a Volunteer Fireman and also a University of Maryland Extension Service instructor on fire fighting and prevention. John Deere had just developed a new line of smaller, lighter fire trucks with smaller water carrying capacity and a new pumping system that produce very high pressure lower volume hoses and nozzles. Unlike the traditional nozzles this was more like a rifle with a pistol grip mammoth all fingers squeeze trigger and a forearm for the other arm to grab. They were designed mostly for two uses, the field fires where the high pressure allowed reaching distant places but also as First on the Scene house fires. That latter use was the most fantastic new use. When you showed up at a house fire the relatively thinner, lighter and more flexible ¾" hoses could be deployed much faster than the old cotton 1½" lines and so you could attack the fire far quicker. BUT the big difference was how this newer technology was used. You fought the fire in a whole different way. Once you entered you simply crawled as low as possible directly into the middle of the room, rolled over onto your back, aimed the nozzle straight up with the selector set to widest spray, squeezed that massive trigger for two to three seconds and let go. The combination of the wide spray pattern and very high pressure produced a mist rather than stream that immediately turned into steam. The steam expansion (1:1700) simply removed all the oxygen and snuffed the fire out. It was amazing, unbelievable, somewhat scary. But the technique ONLY worked in relatively enclosed spaces. The technique that was so effective in a building did nothing out at the field or forest fire. Edited by Admin, : Fix minor typos.

Taq writes: One very important lesson is kitchen fires. If you are frying something in oil and the oil catches on fire, DO NOT USE WATER!!! The best method is to smother the fire with baking soda, or better yet have a fire extinguisher in your home (fully charged and checked annually). Even better for grease fires is "Just put a lid on it!". Simply place the pot or pan lid or a slightly larger pan lid on it. Snuffs it out. Safer than trying to move the pan. Other things, electric fire use fire extinguisher or if you can reach the plug, unplug it. Then you can treat it as a normal fire and use water. But water ONLY after unplugging. Wood, paper, fabrics use water. Pancakes, tell the kids they are 'Cowboy Pancakes'. Edited by jar, : appalin spallin

One more aside: Home Fire Extinguisher types
For home use there are three types of fire extinguishers; identified as A, B or C A type are for solids, wood cloth, paper, plastics and rubbers. B are for flammable liquids, grease, fats, gasoline, alcohol, paints and such. C are for electrical fires. All fire extinguisher will be labeled and some will work over two or more types such as BC or ABC. Read the labels.

I do not brand people, I brand Fundamental Evangelical Christianity as common in the US as a perversion of Christianity and a denigration of the teachings of Jesus and the Goats found in Matthew 25. And I'm sorry you decided to remain willfully ignorant despite all the kind and generous help you've been offered hear. You and yours are the greatest threat the US has faced since the Pilgrims. And the facts and evidence displayed in this thread ARE the reality you have chose to ignore.

Again, learn to read. Halon would not have worked PERIOD in the instance of the 9-11 Twin Towers. Halon and its use or effectiveness is still irrelevant to the topic of this thread or the FACT supported by ALL of the evidence that has been so kindly given to you in this thread that Global Warming is caused by human actions. Try to read with some minimal comprehension.

Try and pay attention. I am a Christian and also able to look at the evidence, in fact the very evidence presented to you in this very thread by not one but a succession of contributors. The evidence, ALL of the evidence says that Global Warming is the result of humans increasingly releasing Carbon Dioxide into the environment. It is people like you, willfully ignorant at best and quite often simply liars which are typical of the Christian Cult of Ignorance that I am addressing. Learn to read the Bible as well. The Goats in Matthew 25 were all the followers of Jesus.

Why do you keep lying when everyone can actually read Matthew 25 and see that it was the followers of Jesus that were the goats while it was the folk not following Jesus that were the sheep. It's the folk that 'do for Jesus', the folk like Phat and USA 1776 and so many we have seen here at EvC that will be the goats.

Correct, they are believers and would be called Christians today. The point is it's not what you say or claim, rather did you do as Jesus said, feed the hungry, clothe the naked, heal the sick, shelter the homeless, protect the weak. That is why if there is a heaven it will be filled with Buddhists and Taoists, and Animist, and Atheists but damn few Christians. It's a hard sell and much easier to simply sell 'salvation'.

Of course you could opt out but you can still come over for the Low Country Boils, Crab Feasts, Bull Roasts, Beer Fests, Mud Puppies, Red Beans and Rice, Fish Fries, East Carolina BBQ, Texas BBQ, KC Ribs, Fried Green Tomatoes, Water Mellon, Mush Mellon, Cantaloupe, PawPaws (they are really great, when I was little we had a PawPaw patch), Turkish Coffee, Cuban Coffee, Matcha, even Turkish Delight ... Set a spell and eat your fill and leave when you recover enough to be mobile. Think of the Loaves & Fishes parable. No preaching, no lectures jess good food.

That's the point. But ask Phat if he is a 'True Believer'? Ask USA 1776? Ask Dredge? The point is that a vast portion of today's Christianity, the Saved and Salvation folk, the MAGA group and their answer will be 'Yes, they ARE the True Believers'.

The first group are surprised because they know they never did anything for Jesus. The second group are surprised because they know they did things for Jesus, they even say when did we NOT do things for Jesus. They would be his followers but did not follow his call to serve others..
