I usually decline to respond to outwardly hostile, obscene entries, but you do bring up a good point.
surprisingly a good number of donald "grab em by the pussy" trump are delicate little flowers who can't handle a bit of adult language.
In a brief informal chat Trump exposed Trudeau for what he is, and now he is out of the picture
I'll put this gently in order not to disturb your special snowflake-ness but in short you don't know what you're talking about. JT and the liberal's numbers have been in the tank for a long time, any suggestion that trump had anything to do with JT's pending resignation is just the TDSS speaking.
It's a shame what has become of our Western leaders.
this i agree with. Why there is one country who elected a 34 count felon, a man who stole classified documents, who is on his knees for putin, is in love with Kim Jong-Un and openly admires Xi. And the "christian" right of this country for some reason back this philandering, lying, sexual assaulter. It's not enough to bash in heads, you've got to bash in minds soon I discovered that this rock thing was true Jerry Lee Lewis was the devil Jesus was an architect previous to his career as a prophet All of a sudden i found myself in love with the world And so there was only one thing I could do Was ding a ding dang my dang along ling long - Jesus Built my Hotrod Ministry Live every week like it's Shark Week! - Tracey Jordan Just a monkey in a long line of kings. - Matthew Good If "elitist" just means "not the dumbest motherfucker in the room", I'll be an elitist! - Get Your War On *not an actual doctor

Why doesn't Canada just commit to cleaning up the border like Trump has demanded from the get-go?
why don't you stop beating your spouse? lets see some evidence that the problems that trump claims to exist actually do, we know how he lies. - Get Your War On *not an actual doctor

quote: Really? I haven’t seen Trump walking back on the politicisation of the civil service. And you yourself were saying that Trump wanted to be a totalitarian dictator. I’d be very glad for America if Trump abandoned his attacks on the Constitution but I don;t see any sign of that.

Let’s see how his threats against Hamas go first - since those are on a tight deadline. If Trump can make good on those threats - and by that I mean hurting Hamas badly, not the civilians in Gaza - then maybe we can conclude that Trump might not have been talking hot air.
But then again the whole business about getting Mexico to pay for the wall came to nothing. And it’s hard to see how America can do more than Israel already has (or why America would hold back from hurting Hamas).

The only appropriate response to your nonsense is ridicule. Are you planning a return to the real world anytime soon?

This is a very strange kerfuffle that he's started, but he usually has a point in these instances and he usually comes out on top. Yes, we know, in Trump you trust....I don't know why you think Trump is going to be open and honest about his administration......He's very aware of what not to talk about. You left out everything I listed where Trump was not transparent. I repeat: In Trump you trust. I think you might literally be one of those people who would still support Trump after he shot someone in the middle of Fifth Avenue. "Trump knew what he was doing," you would say. There is nothing that will ever open your eyes to the man's sheer mendacity and menace. If you crave attention-getting entertainment, if you love a good reality show, especially one that actually plays out in the real world, he's your guy. Unfortunately for those of us who also live in the real world, brinksmanship, especially absent statecraft, rarely has a good outcome. Trump is already demonstrating to the world that his presidency will be just as dangerous and disruptive as feared, perhaps ever more so. --Percy

I assume we're talking about Trump becoming the next Hitler. Hitler never made any secret of his intentions.....For Trump to follow Hitler's roadmap Why would you assume that? It's surprising how consistently you get things wrong.
Maybe the Atlantic missed the memo, but all the Hitler-Stalin-Mussolini-fascist stuff was abandoned after the election, it didn't work. I'm pretty sure that if anyone missed a memo it was you. How did you somehow manage to forget all Trump's rhetoric from both before and after the election. Cruel treatment for illegal immigrants. High tariffs everywhere. Threatening other countries' sovereignty and mocking other nation's leaders. My post was not about Trump becoming Hitler. It was about how Germany lost its democracy in the first half of the 30's and how Trump appears to be following a similar roadmap. You quoted me saying as much. How could you get the topic so wrong?
In any case the Atlantic need not fret. The Weimar Republic was a homogeneous society being economically crushed by its victorious adversaries, existentially desperate. The US is the most non-homogeneous and diverse society in the history of the world. I think what you meant to say is that Germany was going through a chaotic period after their defeat in WWI and was more politically fragile then than the U.S. is now. This is true, but as I already described, Hitler only needed a precipitating event to declare a national emergency that created fertile ground for his plans for total power. Trump is following the same roadmap and has already talked about using tariffs as an excuse for declaring a national emergency. Your mention of degree of racial homogeneity did not make sense to me. I thought Trump supporters believe that we're a Christian nation threatened by pollution from foreign blood, and that we must deport this threat to our purity. Trump supporters believe it is extremely important to protect our racial purity. Sound familiar?
We may be fed-up, but we're not to the point where we'll accept just any response. Who is "we". You just spoke of how diverse a country we are. There's a wide diversity of opinion.
Americans may be distracted, somewhat inattentive, but not stupid. Some are, but do they know that? Do sheep ever know that they're being led to the slaughter?
A Hitler-like thing would never fly. You should read It Can't Happen Here, written in 1935 by Sinclair Lewis. --Percy

That's just stupid. We are going to twist Canada's arm by taxing Americans? He was clear that he wants these tariffs to compel Canada to take care of its borders. Yes, it is stupid. But that doesn't mean that we can allow this training opportunity to pass by unused. If you value your free time, never dangle a training opportunity in front of a Chief, not even a retired one. The primary purpose of tariffs is as a revenue source for the federal government, basically a tax on imports. But the protective tariffs we were taught about in high school had a second purpose: making imports less competitive against the same domestic goods. An example from the 19th Century (the Industrial Revolution is usually the period the lesson is set in) would be that the American textile industry is trying to start up, but we've been buying British textiles since forever. Since British textiles are of good quality and cost less than American textiles, the public chooses to buy British rather than American. By placing a protective tariff on British textiles, we artificially make them more expensive, thus making American textiles more competitively priced. A secondary effect of that is to reduce consumer demand for the imported goods, thus reducing how much importers will import, thus affecting the economy of the country exporting those goods. A tertiary effect is that that country could retaliate against us with tariffs of their own, thus igniting a trade war (which isn't good for either country's economy). But I do agree that abusing tariffs in order to punish a country for something totally unrelated makes no sense. It's like your wife/girlfriend (or especially your ex-whichever) punishing you for something (usually that you're unaware of and/or that had happened years ago but she's been holding onto it letting it fester) "in order to teach you a lesson" -- but if you are never told what that lesson is supposed to be then how could you be expected to learn? Frankly, the only lesson to be learned is to have nothing to do with the person again. Similarly, the only lesson that a punitive tariff (which is what all of Trump's tariffs are intended to be) could teach would be for those countries to take their business elsewhere:
Somebody I heard: And since you all don't understand tariffs because you apparently also slept through Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986), here's Ben Stein again telling us about the Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act of 1930 which only served to worsen the Great Depression:

PS
I have to wonder if K.Rose still thinks that China paid us those "billions of dollars in tariffs" that Trump boasted about in his first term. You know, where China retaliated by cancelling their purchase of our soy bean crop, threatening our American farmers with financial ruin so Trump had to bail them out costing billions of dollars. Which Trump told us not to worry about where that money was going to come from because "that's the billions that China paid us in tariffs."
Has KR finally figured that out? Or does he still believe what Trump told him?

Your mention of degree of racial homogeneity did not make sense to me. I thought Trump supporters believe that we're a Christian nation threatened by pollution from foreign blood, and that we must deport this threat to our purity. Trump supporters believe it is extremely important to protect our racial purity. Sound familiar? It should sound familiar, because the Nazis got it from us. The Nazis wanted to implement laws and programs to systematically discriminate against and oppress their racial minority of choice, so they turned to the masters of that art: the state governments of the Jim Crow South. They also adopted our eugenics movement including its forced sterilization. When I stumbled upon a study of Nazi books on race theory (Rassentheorie), I encountered for the first time polygenism, the idea that the different human races each had a separate origin (eg, "God created them separately" which would explain where Cain's wife came from -- refer to my Message 115, 24-Aug-2024, the last message posted in Contradictions: Hint that Genesis 1 and 2 are Allegorical). That is in opposition to the prevailing idea (and only idea that makes any sense in evolution) of monogenism which holds that all humans of all races share a common ancestry. Imagine my surprise when months or a couple years later I encountered polygenistic "separate creations" again, only this time as a key concept in 19th Century American racism used by the pro-slavery side to justify owning blacks because "they're not the same as us; they aren't even human" -- compare with the Nazi concept of "Untermenschen" ("subhumans"). Then much later I realized that I shouldn't have been surprised, since the Nazis got those ideas from us. And, of course, both sides expounded on "poisoning our blood" and banned miscegenation, inter-racial marriage. BTW, Henry Ford was a virulent anti-Semite. To promote his hatred, he bought a newspaper, The Dearborn Independent, in which he published his anti-Semite diatribes. Not only did all Ford dealerships carry the paper, but each Ford car sold came with a copy of the paper in the front seat. Hitler loved Ford. Besides frequently praising Ford, including mentioning Ford in Mein Kampf, Hitler had a picture of Ford hanging in his office. In 1938, Ford was awarded the Grand Cross of the German Eagle, the highest medal Nazi Germany could bestow on a foreigner. So the cross-pollination of Nazi-ism and American racism is far more extensive and fecund that we had imagined. At least one good thing comes from all this sordid mess: When creationists try to blame evolution for racism, we can point to polygenism (that the human races were all CREATED separately) in order to place the blame where it belongs, on creationism.

Or does he still believe what Trump told him? I'm kind of curious about that myself. What percentage of Trump voters really do think US tariffs on Chinese goods will be paid by China? Given what I have heard, probably more than half. Probably a good illustration of why Trump keeps lying . . . it works.

It was about how Germany lost its democracy in the first half of the 30's and how Trump appears to be following a similar roadmap. You quoted me saying as much. How could you get the topic so wrong? I see. So, in an entry titled "How Hitler Trashed the German Constitution in Less Than Two Months" that sees equivalence between the incoming Trump administration and the collapse of the Weimar Republic due to Hitler and the rise of the Nazi party, that references an Atlantic article titled "How Hitler Dismantled a Democracy in 53 Days", you are saying that there is no implication that Trump is the next Hitler, you are only saying that Trump is intending to dismantle democracy using Hitler's methods, but the inclusion of "Hitler" is not meant in any way to suggest Trump is like or will be like [the next] Hitler. Do I have this straight?
quote:Forgive me, but this is just slander. Trump increased his percentages among Black, Latino, Muslim, and other minority voters; there's no way anyone could miss this fact. . . .

Trump is already demonstrating to the world that his presidency will be just as dangerous and disruptive as feared, perhaps ever more so. In the 'real world' Western Civilization is on the decline; China is ascendant; the West has provoked Russia, and is now signaling to an aggravated, aggressive Russia that they (the West) are not up to an assertive response. In the real world there will always be a clear leader, and if there isn't a clear one, one will emerge, power abhors a vacuum. Trump is a true leader, and part of his style is to needle his opponents and his potential partners to see how they respond, see how they measure up. It's old-school stuff, probably considered toxic masculinity these days, but it works. China and Russia have strong, determined leaders. Most of our western guys seem to be partially or thoroughly neutered. But they may soon be unelected in the wake of our election.

the West has provoked Russia
question: what do putin's boot's taste like? follow up: does he clean the dog shit off them before you get down there or do you see that as an added perk? - Get Your War On *not an actual doctor

quote: Sort of inconsistent there. You complain of Russia being aggravated but you complain that Russia hasn’t been aggravated enough. You don’t mention that it is the Republicans - including Trump - who are sending signs of Western weakness to Russia either. In the real world Russia is paying a high price for its war in Ukraine. The less Russia gets for that war the better it will be for the West.
