Hi, Simple!
Your old thread was moved to Free For All. A closed copy still resides in Geology and the Great Flood. I will move this thread to Free For All, also.

Re: and then there was none!
I won't bother with nmost of this gibberish, but ...
The commencement of life upon Earth certainly did not take place by any action of chemistry or electricity or crystalline grouping of molecules. We must pause, face to face with the mystery and miracle of the creation of living creatures.
-- First Baron William Thomson Kelvin (1824-1907), British mathematician and physicist, formulator of the second law of thermodynamics
Been reading Eminent Scientists and Thinkers Conclude...? That appears to be the only quote mine with exactly that error.
Kelvin was not the formulator of the second law of thermodynamics. It was first sketched out by Carnot and first formulated rigorously by Clausius. You sure picked a reliable site from which to copy!
Of course, Kelvin was a great physicist, but he was wrong about many things (most likely because he didn't have access to the data and tools we have today). There's no reason to suppose that his opinions on abiogenesis were valid in the late 1800's, and they are certainly invalid today.

Re: radio dating
Off topic here. There are a number of threads for dating.
You losers. You never let anyone get up any momentum. Any time anything changes subject the slightest little bit, even if it relates to the topic...
"Please post this in the appropriate forum"

Guidance and warning to WT
I have plenty of people angry at me, for more heavy tolerances towards certain creationists behaviors. Of course, I'm overjoyed to see your arrival.
1) NosyNed is correct. We do try to maintain order around here, rather that just letting random thoughts happen anywhere.
2) Why are you bringing up a moderation issue from about 150 messages back? Just to be a pain in the ass? There's no other real reason.
If you're going to work out here, you too have to make the effort to fit in. Consider this a formal warning. You are on thin ice, close to a suspension.
Also, lets try to consistantly get a little more substance into your messages. We don't need a resident whiner.

ps: The "Change in Moderation?" topic, link below, has been adopted as the official place to bring moderation issues.

Re: radio dating
newbie question: do you close threads after a set period of inactivity? (ie this one was inactive for a month +)
{Adminnemooseus says (by edit) - No, topics are not closed because of inactivity. They are closed when they reach about 300 messages, or if there are problems such as severe topic drift or behaviour issues. Please take any further discussion to the "Change in Moderation?" topic. Thanks - AM}

I applaud this post by adminmoose. I hope it sets mf on the right track.
BTW, was "WT" in the subtitle a Freudian slip?

Re: radio dating
Hi Abby,
Threads are not closed for inactivity. They are always closed at around 300 messages. The thread info tends to corrupt at that level.
As long as I have been here, the only other reasons for thread closure would be gross guideline issues. Most of the closed threads you see are simply moved threads. When threads are moved to a more appropriate forum, the original thread is simply closed with a link to the new page.

Re: radio dating
thanks (you and Adminnemooseus) it just seemed that if someone came along and responded to an old post that the previous poster could have left the forum (tired of it, banned etc), and this would leave the latest post in a non sequitur sort of dangle.
(I'm done kibitzen)

Staying on Topic
One thing I often stress is that the admins and moderators here are not all of one mind. This is a good thing, in my opinion, and it will continue to be a good thing once we find that elusive active Creationist moderator (we've had a couple, but for whatever reason they were passive and were retired). But that's another topic.
So naturally Moose and I have a different take on this. Board policy and moderation are certainly valid topics for discussion, and if you'd like to explore the possibility of more flexibility regarding adherence to topics then you should open a thread to discuss it in Suggestions and Questions and see if it attracts any attention.

Wait a second... so the Free For All section allows you to "get off topic" a little more? I will try to post on here more now!

Re: Staying on Topic
But MF, staying on a topic makes it easier for new people to find things they might like to read. It also makes it possible to keep track of what one is talking about so you don't confuse yourself.
It allows for others to step into a discussion with at least some chance of understanding what is being discussed.
It isn't really any kind of onerous restriction it just makes all the discussions work better. I don't know why anyone would want to have one giant topic with all sorts of different discussions going on past each other. That is where you get to without some topic discipline.

Re: Staying on Topic
and if one is talking about building up momentum, if the "momentum" is on topic but the thread is closed because of 259 off topic posts, then who is the loser?

Re: Staying on Topic
MF,
Staying on topic forces people to defend their position. Otherwise people could leave pertinent questions hanging and move to another position. This is also known as the "Gish Gallop". The art of making unsupported assertion after unsupported assertion, and never staying on one topic long enough for the person asserting to actually back up their claim. In the long run, keeping the debate on topic keeps people honest.
