Well, I do and don't take it literally. The thing is, I am full of contradictions. But I don't see it as a rule to take the bible literally because there is a very high probability that the bible can be reconciled to science, and also be true without being literal about it.
For example - would it bother me if God breathed a living soul into the first homosapien, after we evolved - no, it wouldn't bother me, and the chances are that that could well have been the case. Because I am so open to these possibilities I guess I am a creationist who looks on things neutrally.
