quote:
Church leaders in this overwhelmingly Roman Catholic country fared no better.
"They do not walk in... the path of Christ," said Mr Chavez at one stage.
My comment in another thread was that how many church leaders...indeed, people in general...walk in the path of Christ?
In light of Pat Robertson, his cronies and various other corrupt and morally corrupt evangelists, in light of church scandals, in light from within your own experience, from preachers and christian "leaders" you have met in real life. Self glorifying born again christians, eager to tell their testimony, in light of all these christians that by their actions they don't seem be with Christ, my question is (raised by Phatboy):
Do you know any christian leaders that walk with Christ?
I know around three:
2 African priests and a white Priest.
Oh, and a teacher.
I have noticed that on the "fundamentalist" perhaps a better term: Baptist side there are none.
I have not met one fundamentalist preacher whom I can respect.
Except maybe one, a Jamaican, not even from the states.
I see a problem with leadership and the message that is preached from the leaders on the "fundamentalist" side.
In todays world:
Do you know any good christian leaders?

Hugo Chavez
OK CSP...heres the deal: 1) It is my highest intent to never allow you to get in any sort of trouble (aside from being effected by my imperfect human-ness) I am not quite as wise as Jar, but then i'm not as old as him, either! Besides..you have Prophex to watch your back in case the devil tries to punk you. (Of course, you have to watch out that the devil does not use your brash agressiveness to try and goad other people) I would not mess with you and your brother! You two seem to have basically disciplined souls in regards to God, but are a bit like two young jocks out for a bit of a fight! Many of the "parental" types like Percy or Ned are chompin at the bit for trying to keep you two quiet...but THIS IS A FORUM! For crying out loud! Hugo Chavez is unknown to me except for what I read in the news. I thought that it would be a good topic for you because, gosh darn it, I am talking to you, Chris. YOU are a revolutionary minded individual, but there are practical realities concerning the world around us and the geo-political and uber-religious groups contained within.
NIV writes:
Matt 24:7-8--Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of birth pains.
(The previous scrip to this was the one that I gave to Prophex, where Jesus talked of wars that MUST be.)
From what I have been taught, Kingdoms are entities such as Venezuala, The United States Of America, or Germany.
Nations in this biblical context mean ethnic groups of people such as
Serbians vs Croatians. Hugo had a quote that I thought gutsy yet true:This populist leader, who never missed an opportunity to address the nation, once described oil executives as living in "luxury chalets where they perform orgies, drinking whisky".
Church leaders in this overwhelmingly Roman Catholic country fared no better.
"They do not walk in... the path of Christ," said Mr Chavez at one stage.
My comment in another thread was that how many church leaders...indeed, people in general...walk in the path of Christ?

A youth is a person who is going to carry on what you have started. He will assume control of your cities, states, and nations. He is going to take over your churches, schools, and corporations. You may adopt all the policies you please, but how they are carried out depends on him. So it might be well to pay him some attention.

Convictions are very different from intentions. Convictions are something God gives us that we have to do. Intentions are things that we ought to do, but we never follow through with them.

Completely changing posts
CP,
I wanted to let you know that significantly changing the contents of your post after posting (besides simply deleting the content after re-thinking) is not really "cool." Now, I could deal with you changing it once via Phatboy's suggestion (I guess this thread was originally phrased in an inappropriate way), but doing it again and drastically changing the contents, especially on the opening post, is not OK.
In your case I don't see much harm done; the discussion really hadn't started much and it's kind of already a mess, but there's a fine line between what you're doing and using the "edit" function to propogate misrepresentation and confusion. That's a road we want to avoid at all costs.
For that reason, and that reason only, I wanted to let you know: don't do it. Don't drastically change the contents of a post after publishing it. If you post a thread you don't want opened, request an admin to close it. Then you can post a new thread for your new topic. If you don't like the contents of a post, you can also delete it (as Lam seems to have done at post 6, and I've seen Charles Knight do a few times).
If you have any questions or comments about this policy, please take it to the "General Discussion..." thread via the link in my sig.
Thanks.

Diss
Aiiight, "Zack and Cody"...I'll play along. Yeah, Pat Robertson has to be judged only one way: Does he pray and ask for forgiveness and for God to guide him? Or is he a total charlatan...con...phoney?
If we ask that question of him, we then have to judge ourselves. Can we honestly say that we are Christians and he is not?
By the way, I think that we are usually pretty nice to people in general...
One of my sins is favoritism. I have a hard time helping it.
Another one is gambling. I could tell some idiotic stories!

Re: Hugo Chavez
Dang...I thought that AdminBen was trippin on the fact that you changed the topic once...but you changed it twice! Are you testing him or me? (I just left the grrrr thread alone for dramatic effect. I respected the fact that you had changed the O.P. to Hugo Chavez...but now you turned it and put it back on me.)
As a general rule, we should only change our opening posts if no more than one person has replied. The post should set the direction of conversation.
To be fair, however, nobody except Lam and then Ben joined in this conversation....maybe Ben was expecting Hugo Chavez and not Jesus Christ. Lam had promised to shut up for a few days....
What does it really mean to "walk with Christ" anyway? If it means knowing Him inasmuch as He is real and alive, attempting to pray and talk with Him daily, and allowing yourself to loosen the overcontrol that you sometimes give yourself...then I know what it means. I can't claim to be a guru, but then again, I've never met one. (Except the living Christ within me! )

Which is very true but just to clarify, I do it straight away not a bit further down the road
Why? Because even after all this time, I still struggle a bit with what is found to be acceptable here - even you american liberals are not that liberal in regards to language and the like

Maybe on topic maybe not
I was going to start a topic on this but I think it can fit in here:
Once you get beyond a certain level of wealth - can you really said to be walking with Jesus? Isn't Mammon your main man at that point?
Let's say Pat Robinson is worth $200m, doesn't Jesus have something to say something about the wealthly trying to get into Heaven? What does a man of God NEED with $200m?
