Surely now it is time for Bush and Blair to step in and tell Israel that enough is enough.
Israel is getting away with state terrorism against innocent Palestinian civilians. This last week or so the Israeli government has sanctioned actions which have resulted in the deaths of manu innocent Palestine civilians. They are deliberately targetting, amongst other things, civilian ameneties, and they really do not care who they kill in the process.
If this was any other nation Bush and Blair would do something about it, the UN would do something about it, can you imagine the outcry if the UK had bombed Ireland during the troubles?
The latest news is that the Palestine gov is calling for International help to stop the Israeli invasion of their country, so why is Israel getting away with State Terrorism, why is the civilised world sitting back and doing nothing?
Brian.

Geopolitics. An think-tank uncle of mine who worked for the Clinton adminstration told of Israels worry about Irans developing nuclear potential. He said it was highly unlikely that Israel would let Iran get the project up and running and that they would employ a pre-emptive strike similar to that carried out against an Iraqi nuclear facility in 1981
http://www.spacewar.com/...er_Than_Iraq_Mission_In_1981.html
If such a strike took place, the west would huff and puff and issue some UN Resolutions condemning the act. In reality, the west and other interested parties would be jumping up and down with joy.
Israel, a west-friendly state with world class military power and stable government located right in the middle of the most strategically important area of the world. In whose interest is it to call "enough is enough?"

I totally agree.
Collective punishment is never justified. Israel's actions are terrorism.
However, as soon as a country can afford to support a formal army structure it is able to avoid the term "terrorist" - especially in the news media.
In any case, their recent actions have sent a clear message to angry young Palestinians - for soldier you capture we will kill a dozen civilians.
And they wonder what produces suicide bombers....
Of course Israel has the right as a state to defend itself, but as long as the Palestinians are caged like animals they will continue to bite the hand of their jailer.

Didn't Palestine commit an officiall act of war by kidnapping an Israeli soldier?
I may not be aware of all the attacks that Israeli is doing, but the two I saw were blowing a bridge up, and attacking a military target. What else was there?
I am not sticking up for Israel, just wondering about the facts.

I thought it was a terrorist group not the official govt - but then I turn over when news about the middle east comes on so I could be wrong.

Of course, the obvious retort to this is to ask what the Israeli soldier was doing in Palestine!
Still, it's all tit-for-tat in the long run.
The only thing that is certain is that Palestine *must* have their own viable state. Israel's demands for an end to the violence from the Palestinian side as a condition for talks is pointless given that the enitre population is besieged by Israeli forces.
The reason why the Palestinian electorate have turned to a group like Hamas for a government is that they have nothing left to loose.
Fighting is the only freedom they have left.

1: The pro-Israel lobby is very strong. Politicians who ignore them usually finish up looking for another job.
2: Bush is captive to a group of fundamentalist loons, and some of those believe that we need a nuclear war in the middle east to help God out in initiating the second coming.
Israel is getting away with state terrorism against innocent Palestinian civilians.
Israel can do no wrong, at least in the eyes of some fundamentalists.

Probably, because government of the palastininans is directly funding suicide bombers going into israel?? Hamas has been doign that for years, and just got in control of the palastine government. They continuted their acts of terrorism against Israel.
Maybe, if Hamas didn't do kidnapping and murder , Israel would not react in the manner it did?
After all, isn't that what Bush did with Iraq (although we do know that Iraq did not have anything to do with 9/11, nor did it have functional WMD that could be launched in 45 minutes)

What I heard all the terrorists need to do is return the soldier and Israel will leave Gaza. The Palestinians need to stop supporting terrorists however the the Hamas leaders will just continue to use Gaza to terrorize Israel. The best course is to not return Gaza to Palestian (hold the terrorists palestian leadership accountable) because the giting of Gaza to the Palestians was for Peace not for allowing terrorists from Damascus to come into Gaza to terrorize Israel.

Hamas militants kidnapped the soldier. There has been no evidence presented (of which I am aware) that the Palestinian governing authority had any part in their actions, yet Israel arrested a half dozen Palestinian cabinet and Parliament members.

Israel's first target was the power generating station which supplied electricity for most of Gaza. The station also produced electricity for Palestinian water processing plants and hospitals. Last I heard 750,000 Palestinians are without power in Gaza.

But the Israeli government (supported by the west) is funding an army with which to occupy and control Palestine.
In my opinion the diffence is little more than semantic. One man's soldier is another man's terrorist. For many Palstinians Hamas represent THEIR army...

Except, of course, that the party that is control of the Palastian government right now is HAMAS.
Funny how that goes.

I woudl agree, it it wasn't for the fact that Hamas is sending people with bombs to blow up busses, schools, cafe's, and other public places.
Plus, it currently is in the Hamas charter to destroy israel. That has never been removed.

In this country, we do not take it that the misdeeds of the Republican party are misdeeds of the federal government. Why are we treating Palestine differently from the way we want to be treated?

1. Jihad parties are not American kind of organizations. When Jihadish terrorist organizations run the nation, the government is accountable. Dissention from jihadism is forbidden.
2. Teeny Israel surrounded by nations promoting it's demise is not the US surrounded by water and friendly nations. Israel MUST keep on the offensive and on top of every terrorist act or they all die. It's life or death for these people.
