Hi,
I know there are some mathy people here so I have a question.
I have a continuous function valid on the x axis within the domain -inifinity to infinity.
I want to calculate the mean value of y, within the range x0 to x1.
How do I do it?
for example, say I have an exponential distribution y=2e^(-2x)
From first principles, how would I go about calculating the mean of the curve between x=2 and x=3?
The function I am using in reality is a bit more complex with loads of parameters, but I am able to differentiate it and integrate it, if that is any help.
Thanks! It's driving me nuts!
Mick

Integrate over the interval and divide by the interval.

Pedantry is Freedom
Divide by the length of the interval.

Thanks!
Kind of obvious when you think about it, but I'm no good at this stuff.
Cheers
