Hi iftikhar from Pakistan,
I agree that the world will be better off without nuclear weaponry (and also biological weaponry). But the fact is, as long as there are rivalries between nations, we just could not stop arms races. Even though all the countries in the world agreed to ban nuclear weapons, the pact is vulnerable to treachery. Lets say every nation agreed to do that. Some time later one country broke the teraty and revealed its nuke arsenal, and invaded another country. By then every other country would start thier own nuke weaponry, just to keep up with the cheater.
Is there a way to escape this game-theory conclusion?

Well, I think that main reason some countries are denied Nuclear weapons is the security issue. The sad fact is that some countries are more secure than others. So in order to prevent nukes from getting into the hand of extremists or terrorist nukes are band in countries that might allow those weapons into terrorist hands.
Of course I always found it funny that we (the US) are always yelling for other countries to disarm when we are one of the countries with the most nukes stockpiled.
Overall though I think that ALL countries should dismantle their nuclear arsenal no matter how secure they are.

iftikhar no its not as long as countrys like the Untied states are around. With their weapons they control other weapons..... it would be alot worse if USA didn't have weapons. Though peace would be nice... I most likely will never happen. Humans have been fighting since before recorded history. other creatures where fighting before that....

DC85!
I never said USA shouldn't have this.I said if Us had this, the rule is that every one should have right to have those arsenals.
every one wants its integrity n rightly so.
As for as the concept of this with Extremists, that will be hopefully controlled.one more thing!
If Dr.Khan gave it to few countries there are many other Doctors/Scientists who gave it to other countries. who gave this tech to china, india, russia, pakistan.if khan is a criminal then all those are also criminals.Democracy!!!
Peace

I don't think its a matter of disarming nuclear weapons, but completely disarming the entire military. Nuclear weapons are a bi-product of modern physics, and science will always be integrated into militaries along as there is a military/war.
We must first dis-associate the idea of war from the human race before we can disarm nukes. You must learn to walk before you can run. With this said, we must disarm our entire military before we can destroy our WMD.
A utopian worldwide society must be achieved before we can think about disarming nukes. Until this day, having some nuclear warheads backing you up is like having Mike Tyson behind you in a bar fight.
The question is how can we rid violence and war from society? This is the problem we must tackle, because nuclear weapons are a product of power and violence.
