There used to be a Video Games thread, but I think it was in the old Free-for-All thread, so I thought I'd start up a new one.
What are people playing? I'm anxiously awaiting World of Warcraft, which I played a bit in the open beta, and it was awesome.
Got rid of my Gamecube so I haven't played on the consoles in a while. I hear that Halo 2 is really awesome.

Sadly, I currently play Donky Konga for fun. I bought it as a game to play in social situations, but, sadly, I frequently drum the beats of "Oye Coma Va" and "Louie Louie" alone.

All I have out here is my laptop, with the oldie-but-goodie Starcraft. Don't have much time to play, but I have had a few good sessions of alien ass-kicking.
At home I have the xBox, which will be fired up as soon as I'm back, with new additions to include Halo 2, Starcraft Ghost, and the remake of Sid Meier's Pirates whenever it comes out. Also gonna grab a PS2 so I don't have to wait another year for GTA: San Andreas.
Has anybody seen that retro Atari box they're selling? Something like 20 games built-in, but apparently no cartridges or expansion capability? I can't tell for sure from the marketing stuff I've seen, but that's what it looks like to me. That seems the only drawback to an otherwise great concept. They should make it USB-compatible and start working on downloadable games.

Halo 2 is not as good as Half Life 2 according to most sources.
I'm currently playing Ratchet and Clank (the original one) of all things. 'Tis good to annoying at times.

You are correct sir.
For those of you out there who like D&D I recomend "the Temple of elemental evil" just make shure you get the latest patch. I think it sort of slipped under the radar due to it's initail buggyness but I think it's a great game.
But I have to admit noting fills me with more geeky nostagia than a good game of "Joust."
Ahh, Joust... Mmm, Joust. It makes me happy just saying it... Joust Joust Joust. "Beware the 'unbeatable' Teradactil." Oh beleve me I'll beware!

I remember playing Joust on an old b/w Mac everytime my family visited some friends during the summers. Joust, and some insanely funny/frustrating game where you controlled a paper plane through a house. The boss of each stage was a cat, and to win you had to guide the paper plane through the open window, to freedom!
Mostly playing Everquest 2 at the moment which due to some cosmic twist is actually good.
Also, Katamari Damashi deserves some mention, even though I don't spend that much time on it.

I'm behind the times on video games, as always, so I'm just getting around to Diablo II, on my roommate's computer. It's pretty cool, but not let-my-kids-starve-because-I'm-playing-Diablo-II cool like everyone told me it was.
I just beat the Countess.

I am currently playing:
Tribes 2
Rome: Total War
Nexus, The Jupiter Incident
Waiting for HL2 but only so I can play CS... although that will depend on getting internet at home again.

Ah, you must be rockin' that Midway Arcade compendium, where they took all those classic arcade games and dropped them on one disc for the Gamecube and other consoles. If not, you should be.
Joust is fun. I prefer the old-school multiplay of Gauntlet. "Don't shoot the food..."

Is that all? You aren't anywhere near the cool parts, then.
You're like the guy that waits 5-6 years to see the first Matrix movie, and then is all like "it was great, but not that great." No, of course not. Your memories of it haven't been magnified by the passage of time, yet.
It gets way better. My favorite part is when you journey to the desert city and plumb the depths of ancient tombs for treasures beyond the dreams of avarice. Man, I love doing that.

Oh, yeah, I know I gotta keep going through. I just get this sinking feeling like the gameplay isn't going to be wildly different from what I've seen so far.
I'm sure part of it is that everyone's been telling me for years that it's the greatest thing since sliced bread. And I'm just goin', "I dunno... sliced bread is pretty good. It brings us sandwiches."
Then I decide I want a sandwich, and walk away from the game.

Well, no. It's not going to suddenly turn into an FPS, or something.
It's going to be an action RPG in an isometric view for the whole game. You're going to level up about 50-60 times, each time gaining an incremental boost in power as well as the occasional new ability on the skill tree; you're going to collect incrementally better weapons and armor; you're going to explore dungeons with wierd layouts because they've been generated at random.
If that doesn't turn you on, then you're better off with the sandwich. Me, I can't think of a better way to waste an evening.
