To counteract all the gloom and doom in the media recently, read the article printed yesterday in one of our prominent newspapers, the New Zealand Herald.
The reactions of all sides were truly encouraging.

Apollyon
The shame of it is that nothing will change in those lands because of this effort by men of compasion and honesty. I wish the parents well though as it must be an enormous burden to raise a child there.

While this was certainly good, it is not news at all. Regular citizens from both sides have always helped each other out and have tried to stop the violence through acts of normalcy (to show how ridiculous all the extremism is).
Also last week (or the week before) a number of non governmental leaders from both sides got together and worked out concession plans designed to acheive a lasting peace. Colin Powell publicly cheered this event. The Israeli gov't was quick to shoot it down.
The problem is simply that extremist organizations run the show. And while extremists in Palestine rule from the gutter, zionist extremists rule from the top of the Israeli gov't. That pretty well puts a stopper in any hopes. Anytime a grassroots movement makes headway. the Israel government ends it.
Take a look at the other news item in your newspaper titled "Israel removes UN child draft" and more importantly "Israel ready to cede land for peace". Ironically that last article is really a negative one despite its cheery title.
While your first article tries to show an everyday act of normalcy as some sort of heroic sign of peace, the reality of the situation is seen in the other two articles.
People good, extremist organizations bad. Same as it ever was.

If a Palestinian Dr had done this for an Israeli child, likely the leaders of the PLO would've had him hanging on a pole for all to witness. The PLO has seen to it that no child sees the nation of Israel on a school map in their classroom, the hate is so intense.

Your info is out of date. The PLO is not like that at all.
Here is another positive (grassroots) attempt at bridging the cultural divide:
Icebreakers | Environment | The Guardian
Inside this you may note the following:
"Mohammad Awni Qasem, a Palestinian doctor, works at the Israeli Hadassah Hospital in Jerusalem, where he routinely treats the victims of terror attacks and violence."
Perhaps you should join their trip and get some working knowledge of what Palestinian HUMANS are like, and what they experience from their own gov't, rather than telling them.
Or do you have some evidence to counter this?

buzsaw didn't say the Palestinians were evil. He said the PLO is.

Yes I know he was talking about the PLO. He said if a Palestinian doctor treated an Israeli child the PLO would string that doctor up. I showed him that a Palestinian doctor treats Israelis on a daily basis, including those injured by Palestinian militants.
The PLO has not strung him up.
Neither is it likely to. There is no denying that the PLO has a violent and offensive history. However, more recently... and as it has become THE political force for Palestinian statehood... it has shed its extremist ways.
This is why I told Buz that his info was out of date, not that it was never true.
I might add that Buz has made derogatory remarks about Palestinians themselves and Arabs and Muslims in general. According to him they certainly are evil because they worship a pagan moon god and spread its evil while pretending to the outside world they worship the same God as the Xians. I am pretty sure I have his argument correct here. Let me know if I am missing something Buz.

School? What School Are You Talking About?
By the way Buz, here's some suggested reading for you about Christianity in the Holy Land. At least check the title. You should know these things. According to the CIA Factbook, 8% of the West Bank is "Christian and other". In Israel, that number is a mere 2.1% (with Other being 3.2%). In short, Palestinians have a *larger* percentage of Christians than Israel does. Again, read the above article.
