Hey all,
Hope you had a good Christmas and New Years... anyway, I'd like to start a new website as a new years resolution - just to keep myself occupied - and I'd like some opinions on my idea.
I've noticed that there are many, many websites dedicated to the evolution/creation debate, dealing with umpteen diverse subjects and all that, and they tend to come down on either side of the fence with little or no crossover. What I'd like to do is start a completely impartial "origins crossroads" site, containing links to both sides of the debate, brief outlines of the major and minor points of debate, articles from both sides, forum links, etc. etc. It's ambitious, but I think it would serve a very useful purpose - letting both sides know the other and providing a starting point for newcomers.
We tend to disregard things we don't understand or don't agree with. In this case I think the most important thing is understanding on both sides - so creationists could learn about very complicated science, and evolutionists could learn about byzantine theology, if either want to of course.
The most important part is objectivity - leaning excessively to one side or the other instantly alienates the opposing party. In this way I would hope to accomodate either side fairly, with links to even the most extreme sites - even Kent Hovind. *shudders*
This would be a very extensive and ambitious undertaking. I wouldn't put it forward if I didn't think that there was a need for such a site, and if I wasn't prepared to devote time and effort to making it. I'd appreciate opinions, suggestions, whatever.
And if there's a site like this already, please let me know so I can avoid making an idiot of myself.

Very close to what I had attempted to do earlier with the OYSI (Organization for Young Scientists Inquiry), except I envisioned a more tightly knit group of dedicated individuals. Less links to extra-OYSI articles and more original content. Also as the name implies it would be geared more toward the hungry budding minds of younger potential scientists. Internal and external methods of peer review. It was meant to encourage participation from both sides of the spectrum (Young and Old Earth perspectives).
However, I am thinking that it was more of a 'dream' than a feasible reality. Nevertheless, I still find the idea highly intriguing and may attempt to establish a running OYSI environment in the summer or whenever I have more time.
I would be happy to contribute to your project if you decide to go through with it. Or, maybe we could put our heads together and come up with something feasible and coherent?
The OYSI site isn't up anymore as I recently had changed web hosting servers, but I could throw it up again somewhere for you to see exactly what I was trying to do.

Thanks TC, I'd love to collaborate on this. If you post your email address we can get the ball rolling - I have a lot of ideas, but not too much experience with website design.
Anyone else who wants in on this is more than welcome.
