And so we sit, waiting for Emily to arrive. About all possible preparations have been done, now it's just nail biting time.

Forgive the ignorance but...
...who is Emily?

Just about 50 miles inland of Brownsville in Mission, TX. First rain bands are starting to sweep in right now. The next 24 hours will be interesting. Aslan is not a Tame Lion

I wish you well and hope Emily doesn't strengthen! Having put up with three hurricanes last year I can definitly empathize.

Well that would still be too close for me. Hopefully the effects at your place will be minor. Batten down the hatches, stay dry, and best of luck.

A co-worker of mine moved from Mountain View, CA last year to Orlando, just in time to be hit by three hurricanes. He's now back in CA, more willing to put up with earthquakes and high real estate prices than hurricanes! We all blamed him as being a hurricane magnet. I used to live right on the coastal barrier island in Melbourne Beach, FL at a whopping 8 feet above sea level (basically the dune line). At least in Orlando we don't have to worry about the tidal surge.

I got nose bleed when I moved here. I'm a whopping 128 feet above sea level here. If you look at the radar image you'll see the first inland county. That's Hidalgo. I live about a mile or so north of the Rio Grande in Hidalgo county. Aslan is not a Tame Lion

My daughter Emily is amusing herself collecting headlines like "Emily Batters Yucatan!" Good on a resume, I guess....

Good job ol' buz isn't still around or he'd be explaining to you that it's your punishment for not being a real Christian and how if you'd only come round to his particular (non) reading of the Bible you'd be being followed by blessings not hurricanes. The weather in Britain may be more boring than in most of the rest of the World but sometimes boring has a lot going for it...
